Review: Winter Wolf by R.J. Blain 5 of 5 stars

Winter Wolf Winter Wolf by R.J. Blain
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nicole used the occult and paid the price of losing her beautiful voice so she sounds like she has Laryngitis all of the time. She has now changed her name, lost touch with her family and as a Wizard has to be one step ahead of the Inquisition. She also seems to have constant bad luck.

When she is in a bookshop the employee that was serving her is murdered and through guilt she uses even more forbidden magic to go into the past and find out who or what killed the employee only to discover it is a disease that is killing almost all of the werewolves.

Nicole decides to help and has to embrace her magic and form some alliances with werewolves and members of the Inquisition if she is going to save werewolves (including her family).

I found this book was a little slow to start but as I got into it more I became addicted to it and started to read it faster and faster. The writing style was good and the descriptions used was clear and easy to understand. If I had one criticism it would be that the end was faster than I expected it to be after the slow start to the book.

Review: Atomic: An I Bring the Fire Short Story by C. Gockel 2 of 5 stars

Atomic: An I Bring the Fire Short Story Atomic: An I Bring the Fire Short Story by C. Gockel
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is a short story about Sigyn and Loki who were married and about their relationship including her witnessing some events that happened here (so you will be able to relate to those).

I found reading it hard work, and it is not really stand alone as it misses some information. I think you would be better off reading the first full book in the series not this. Nice writing style but it didn't do it for me.

Review: Trainwreck by Heather C. Myers 4 of 5 stars

Trainwreck Trainwreck by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sadie is a good girl and not the kind of person you would expect to have detention, but she has it this Saturday. Asher is a pothead, sometime criminal, and often missing from lessons - he is also in detention every week. They meet at detention even though they both take one class in common.

Sadie gets put in the supply closet towards the end of detention and ends up making out with Asher. By the time Monday comes around the gossip has escalated to the point that everyone thinks she had sex with him even though she didn't - in fact she is a virgin.

This is a tale of blossoming love between two people at opposite ends of the social scale - she is typical middle class, he has a drunk for a father. I found it hard work at the start of the book but persevered and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the writing style as it described everything well - the people, emotions and surroundings. I could believe and imagine everything in the story.

Review: The Lost Soul Trilogy by Laurie Olerich 5 of 5 stars

The Lost Soul Trilogy The Lost Soul Trilogy by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have reviewed all three of these books separately so I'm adding a review to this collection. Great books that I found addictive.

Primani - this is the first book in the series and focuses on Mica, a psychic, who has an important destiny ahead of her and Sean her Primani protector who has to keep her alive no matter what happens. I loved this book and just wanted to know more when I got to the end. I loved the relationships between all the characters and development of Mica into someone with special skills and talents. I felt almost as heartbroken as her at the end.

Call the lightening - in the second book the team are trying to recover from the end of the previous book when the demon Dagin has them under sustained attack and Killian does what he thinks is best and takes her off to his own private world. In doing more to protect her he awakens ancient things that he thought was never going to happen. I thought this was a great book and a fitting follow on from book one
After reading book one I HAD to read book two in the series. I was not disappointed. Mica's powers are developing nicely and she is still getting more than her fair share of sorrow. I'm starting to feel sorry for her now - she definitely needs a break.

Stone Angels - Sean seems to have lost his mind and is very violent and unstable. Mica is trying to do everything she can to save him even though it takes her away from Killian. In the end Killian has to gamble that Mica will save Sean, that Sean will act in an honourable way, and that Mica will come back to him because of their love. Definitely as good as the first book. Poor Sean - I ended up crying at how bad things got for him. I loved the way the story developed and how Mica was growing into her talents.

Review: Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton 4 of 5 stars

Maid for the Rock Star Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Audra is a maid in the Romance Island Resort and fully focused on her job before she tries to get an internship doing her dream job. She can handle the customers, their demands and wishes, and is very mindful of the rules to have no relationships with guests nor staff.

Jay is a rock star and used to getting what he wants, when he wants it, whether that be service, sexual favours or anything else. Jay is shocked to find that Audra is not interested in having sex with him and repeatedly says no (something he is not used to)

A lovely romantic story about the spoilt rock star and the maid who is dong everything she can to have a better life. I liked the twist of first one caring for the other and then for it to switch around to being the other way around. Very pleasant read.

Review: Sex and Sorcery by Sarah Hyde 5 of 5 stars

Sex and Sorcery Sex and Sorcery by Sarah Hyde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Morgan has been dumped by her boyfriend and hiding while gorging on ice cream is a very attractive prospect. However her roommate has other ideas and wants to checkout the boys only university next door which apparently trains sorcerers and apparently they are great at magical sex.

They encounter a caped guard called Edric and Morgan starts an addiction to him because he smells sweet to her even though they all have a vow of celibacy in the school and sex cannot happen between them.

They start adventures together which unlock hidden magic.

I really enjoyed this book even though I found some of it a little hard to imagine as probable. The writing was mostly good and there was always enough gong on and interest for me.

Review: Once Bitten Twice Smitten by Ariana Hawkes 3 of 5 stars

Once Bitten Twice Smitten Once Bitten Twice Smitten by Ariana Hawkes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Two werewolf pups (Chase and Brad) chase a little girl having fun only to accidentally bite her as they had no idea her skin was that easy to damage. Fast forward and the 2 pups are now both sons of an alpha in charge of separate packs and no longer friends.

The girl (Amber) was taken away by her family and has no idea what happened. She has grown up being bullied and tormented as she is not slim like others. She now works in a restaurant and competes in the local roller derby. She has been having pain for a while now and has no idea what is happening to her.

Enter Chase and Brad who have no idea which one actually bit her but are hoping she is their fated mate. Will Amber find out what she is and get over the initial period, and will she have Chase or Brad as her mate (if her parents let them anywhere near her).

This was a pleasant book but I have no idea why it is described as a "comedy romance" as I didn't find anything funny about it. The writing wasn't great and there were definite holes in the story. A nice read but did nothing for me.

Review: Revenge or Punishing her Vampire Master by Anna Santos 5 of 5 stars

Revenge Revenge by Anna Santos
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ewan is an absolute dream - gorgeous and to die for (literally) because he is a vampire. Violet believed he loved her and was turned by him, but later had a rude awakening when he tried to kill her to replace her with another woman.

Now Violet is a sorcerer that also hunts and kills. She now feels ready to have her revenge on Ewan by seducing him and making him suffer. She also becomes involved with her sorcerer master so she becomes involved in a mess of emotions and feelings. Will she choose the right man and will she get closure?

Great story that I thoroughly enjoyed. The writing style was good and it had enough twists and turns to keep my interest. As it is a book one I'm definitely adding the next book to my to read list.

She has to go there and buy a large quantity of apples to make some apple pies - so his sisters suggest that Thomas help her home with them. As soon as he sees her he just has to get closer to her. It a sounds great however Thomas has a big secret that may well get in the way of this blossoming romance.

Grayslake: More than Mated: Bear Up Grayslake: More than Mated: Bear Up by Mina Carter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received an ARC in return for a review

Kacie has always wanted Dean but he has never shown any interest in her. Dean has always wanted Kacie but he is a Bear shifter and she is a human so the conservatives among the clan that he leads mean it can never be. The result is she longs for him from afar and he drinks himself into oblivion trying to live with not being able to have his fated mate. Will the many problems about to hit the area bring them together or push them further apart?

I loved this story and was routing for them getting over the problems and obstacles getting in the way of fate/love. I loved the way she defended herself when she was under attack in the house (not saying any more details or it will ruin the surprise)

The writing was clear and the descriptions were good. I could see myself there and experiencing all that happened.

Review: The Art of Persuasion by Heather C. Myers 4 of 5 stars

The Art of Persuasion The Art of Persuasion by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Isla Barnes is not into a lot of things - love and commitment are two. However she is into having fun and sex with people, Sounds to me like a pretty empty life. She goes out on a bachelorette (or hen) party with friends and wakes up in a bed next to a pirate called Captain Matt Scott in the 18th century. Somehow she has to work through where she is and how to move on from where she has suddenly found herself.

I really liked the story but I got a little irritated with the sections where she was trying to sort out her feelings and deciding where she should be - it felt a little laboured which was a shame as generally it was a really nice book. I liked the descriptions of the locations and people in them.

Corsets & Crossbones Corsets & Crossbones by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Brooke Cunningham is the daughter of a wealthy merchant who is being pushed to meet suitable men in order to find a husband - something she finds tedious and boring. Captain Charlie Colt is a pirate with an eye for beauty and the charm to match it even though his first love is the sea. Brooke and Charlie develop an unlikely friendship based on mutual trust before they get into all sorts of scrapes over a treasure map. So will they avoid the gallows, avoid the others that are determined to find the treasure and more importantly will they remain friends even when others seek to separate them?

A lovely story of love against the odds mixed in with tales of the high seas and pirates. I really enjoyed this book and loved the way we all knew who loved who before they had figured it out themselves. Great writing with good descriptions of the people and life with complex emotions that I certainly could feel.

Definitely recommended.

When He LUSTS: Box Set When He LUSTS: Box Set by Alexa Brookes
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

This is definitely a book for adults.

Gracie works for Jordan shipping orders. They have both been lusting after each other but not said anything. An order was shipped that caused someone's death and Gracie and Jordan are doing to have to work together to try to stay alive.

I understand the premise of the story, but I'm struggling to understand why it is told in such small "books" that make this box set. I'm not enamoured in the way it has been told either. This seems to be more a book about sex and fantasies between two people that might have a bit of story in between.

Maiden's Wolf Maiden's Wolf by Lisa Blackwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beatrice is a young healer who lives with "Old Mother" in the woods and away from the prying eyes of the priesthood. Silverblade is a lupwyn who is in disguise monitoring the human population to see if they are sticking to the treaty. He is also watching Beatrice and her "family" with the intention of giving them protection.

Silverblade meets a delegation (containing his mother) coming to talk to the humans only for them to be caught in a trap set by the priesthood. Only Silverblade makes it out but is severely injured and only survives with the help of Beatrice.

This can be read alone but it is better to be read after parts 1 and 2 of the series. A continuation of the epic story and a love story between two people fighting for the cause of the light who are from different races.

As always very well written with lots of detailed descriptions and emotions. I definitely lived the story with them and was routing for them to be happy together.

Beautiful Disaster Beautiful Disaster by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Isabelle Daniels arrived home early from a week visiting her parents for Spring Break with the intention of having a night of passion with her boyfriend of three years. Instead she finds a man called Johnny Clover who claims to be a pirate from the 18th Century in her living room. As she is trying to get rid of him her boyfriend arrives home with another woman. Izzy tells him they are though but doesn't seem to be able to get rid of the pirate.

This is a lovely romance where both Izzy and Johnny are doing their best to not fall in love - Johnny because he doesn't believe in it and Izzy because she is a romantic who can't countenance anything without love. Add into that mix pirates and a bit of time travel and you get all the scenarios for this to be a lovely tale where love is unavoidable and unavoidable. Well written and good descriptions used throughout.

Through various adventures they are both falling in love with each other, but Ash is fighting it all the way due to stubbornness and her fear of magic.

Blake meets Casey at a pre-graduation celebration for her friend. They are ... Sorry I can't summarise it.

I twice nearly gave up and then in the end just stopped. Everything and everyone was very high level with no depth. Blake was confused all of the time and had no way of being an adult and sorting herself and her feelings out before getting into various situations. She was a one woman hurting machine to her men. If her personal life was as messy as that, how the hell did she hold down a job? The "plot" was very repetitive and pretty much more of the same.

I lovely story of a girl who finds her Prince and gets her dreams come true. It reminded me in some ways of Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion the way she had to learn how a Princess would behave. Nicely written and could be good for a little self indulgence.

Lillian and Gregory have been hibernating to heal themselves after the battle in the first book in this series. During that time the area has changed as it has been noticed by the human authorities and there are scientists, military and reporters all over the place causing harm to the sounding area. This has put a spotlight on her family so they have had to reopen the spa and take in customers.

There is also a new danger in Tethys a siren who is determined to use their power to punish humans for damaging the environment. Gregory is also not adverse to eradicating some of humanity as part of his aim to eradicate evil. This gives Lillian a battle to stop Gregory for irradiating evil humans and to stop him from being used by Tethys to do the same. Then there is the danger from the Riven who are still there and gaining strength to attack again. Lillian and Gregory need to be working together if they have any chance of winning all of these battles.

A great second story of the series. Everything was described and explained well and I was definitely with them as they battled everything that tried to harm them. Well worth reading. I now need to get the third book in the series to find out what happens next.

In a chance he has the window open in his car and smells the scent of Star. He goes to her and she turns him down flat. However not to be denied he hatches a plan to get her. All of a sudden she has a friend help her to get a job in a bar as a waitress (not her ideal job but hey it is something). As the next phase in his plan comes into play she is accused of stealing a large amount of money and given a day to pay it back. Enter Remy who offers to give her the money to cover the debt in return for her agreeing to be his Blood Courtesan for one month. Star feels she has no choice but to agree.

Wow. A smoking hot story with a dark and powerful vampire in the middle of it all. Will Star manage to keep her heart and just give him her body? Will she cope with the amazing sex? I loved the story. The standard of writing was excellent and I was completely there experiencing everything. A definite one to read if you are into vampires and a bit of romance.

I Found My RhinoI Found My Rhino by Erin Hayes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

Shifters are used to plug gaps in zoos and circuses when a real animal is unavailable or can't be found. Leslie is trying to find a white rhino shifter for a zoo and has come to a bar to look for the man who owns it and is a rhino shifter.  Instead she hooks up with the barman Ryan for a night of hot passion, not knowing that Ryan is the grandson of the man she is looking for and is also a white rhino shifter.

A clever tale that had the right mix of shifter and romance.  It was well written and easy to pick up thought and emotions.  I completely understood her motivation in writing this and think this has the potential for further stories.

Justin is a player, Sloane is his sisters best friend how has always wanted him. Justin finds out she is inexperienced and so does his best to stay away (even his sister and Dad have threatened him to stay away) but he can't.

Story of will he or won't he which got a bit tedious after a while - it was very obvious what was going to happen.

Review: Vampire: Alpha Claim 1 by Tamara Rose Blodgett 5 of 5 stars

Vampire: Alpha Claim 1 Vampire: Alpha Claim 1 by Tamara Rose Blodgett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Narah is a bounty enforcer who captures those too dangers for local law enforcement. Aeslin is a vampire trying to capture or turn females with vampire genes before they are caught by the hunters (who stop them from having children) to save the species.

Narah doesn't realise it but the headaches she has been having are because she is has the vampire genes. She is also in trouble because she has exceeded her quota of allowable kills. Will Aeslin get to Narah before the hunters and before she is punished?

I really enjoyed this novella and it is a really good introduction to the series. Certainly I want to read on and find out what happens next.

Review: Tiger Time by Marissa Dobson 4 of 5 stars

Tiger Time Tiger Time by Marissa Dobson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tabitha is a product of the care system and living an existence working as a waitress. Ty is the alpha of a group of tiger shifters and was helped by Tabitha's father before he was killed and is about to rock her world to the core when he finds her and tells her about her father and what she really is.

I enjoyed the book and the style of writing helped me to live through the things she was experiencing. However it was a little too hard to relate to - she handled being told she was a tiger shifter far too easily and she took everything she was told by Ty at face value including the mate side of things which meant I lost the ability to imagine or relate to the story.

Review: Dragon's Redemption by Eden Ashe 5 of 5 stars

Dragon's Redemption Dragon's Redemption by Eden Ashe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this in return for a review.

Dallas is a dragon shifter and is know the the Destroyer due to his hate for Hunters who killed his family and intended mate many years ago. Lily is a Hunter who is trying to find her missing brother. Can these two resist the pull between each other and the natural distaste for each other's group and trust each other?

A really enjoyed this story and the plot twists and turns. The thoughts and feelings were clearly described and it was easy to relate to them both and imagine what they were going through. Definitely recommended.

Review: My Mr. Sexy by C.C. Cartwright 3 of 5 stars

My Mr. Sexy My Mr. Sexy by C.C. Cartwright
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is not for people under 18.

Marissa is torn between two gorgeous guys - Nick (who is taken) and Mich. This book is mostly about her being torn between the two and making a decision about who to choose.

I found the writing style a little high level with no real detail or examination of thoughts or feelings. I felt that the Nick existing relationship could have been expanded and that all these situations she got herself into just make her appear as a great big tease. I don't think I'll go near the next book in the series.
