The Hinterland Veil: The House of Crimson & Clover Volume VII The Hinterland Veil: The House of Crimson & Clover Volume VII by Sarah M. Cradit
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Finn is delayed getting to Ana as he has to progress on his Quinlan training while Aleksandr is getting more comfortable with himself and his powers as he also discovers his first love. Nicholas takes Mercy to Scotland in a desperate move to try and search for a cure for her. At the same time Ana and Cyler are trying to resolve their own internal battles. Can all these groups of characters in disparate locations somehow find a solution to their problems?

I loved this story which was carrying on with the story and following the various groups of family members who are trying to resolve their problems. The writing was good and it was quite emotional in places as development occurred in the story for some of the characters. Now I just need to read the next one as I have to know what happens next!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

Gia Adler is marrying her soul mate but as they take the wedding photos her ex-boyfriend gives her the kind of present of nightmares as he shoots her new husband in the chest and puts him into a coma. As she takes a short break to clear her head life gets so much worse for Gia when she is abducted and taken into an underground world which is the equivalent of hell with drugs, death prostitution and the promise that she is not coming back. The spirit of her husband tries to help her and guide her out, but in order to come out she has to somehow handle the demons of her ex and the past.

I loved this story - it was well written and had lots of twists and turns in order to keep you wondering what would happen next. I loved the idea of the spirit of her comatose husband helping her and all the secrets and dirty laundry from the past being dragged up and resolved.

Review: Bender by Alexander Rigby 4 of 5 stars

Bender Bender by Alexander Rigby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

In this book you will find the story of four couples in different times through their relationships and the ultimate end of those relationships ending with the last couple who discover through a revolutionary machine called Bender that they have lived multiple past lives. These couples are in Ancient Egypt. Renaissance Italy. 1980's Pittsburgh and Futuristic Argentina.

This book was well written and I found the whole concept of the story quite fascinating. It took a little getting used to the changes between the different couples/times but as I read further into the story I became more into the whole story and concept. Well worth reading no matter what genre of story you enjoy.

Review: A Wolf's Hunger: Rafe by A.K. Michaels 5 of 5 stars

Rafe A Wolf's Hunger: Rafe by A.K. Michaels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rafe Blackstone is Alpha of the Darkmoon Pack and has a hunger that just won't stop - nobody and nothing can stop him and his nearest and dearest are really worried about him. Then his Mum tells him of a legend that says that this only happens when a shifter needs to find their mate and so out of desperation he embarks on a journey to find his mate.

Tasha is fighting to stay one step ahead of rogue shifters that have destroyed everything that she knows and loves. When they have Tasha cornered can she survive and have a future with the Alpha who has come to her aid?

This was a great story with lots of action and danger mixed in with a lovely romantic tale. It seemed to have everything - shifters, magic and romance. It was well written and I could feel all the emotions experienced as part of the story. A great start to the new series.

Alpha Alpha by Madisyn Ashmore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

Olivia Ryan is a young lawyer who has recently moved to Alaska and has been given the case of an innocent wolf shifter who is being set up for the murder of a young human woman. She enlists the help of wolf shifter pack alpha Aidan Channing - a ripped male who is set on having and protecting Olivia even if he has to go against his hierarchy to do it. Can they successfully navigate the complicated shifter and human prejudices, can Aidan keep his mate safe and will they be able to keep an innocent man alive?

This was a great story with lots of drama and intrigue about the murder of the young woman and the reasons for both her murder and the setting up of the innocent shifter. It was intertwined very well with the love(and lust) story between Olivia and Aidan. I think we can all do with an Aidan who cares for and protects us no matter what is happening to you.

Review: Wyshea Shadows: Divided Draghons, Book 1 by Geoffrey C. Saign 5 of 5 stars

Wyshea Shadows: Divided Draghons, Book 1 Wyshea Shadows: Divided Draghons, Book 1 by Geoffrey C. Saign
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

This is the start of an epic fantasy book that centres around a world with several races who all seem to hate each other and are determined to kill each other. The story starts with three young women who are part of the hundred year war between the races and are pledged on killing each other. Famere is the Wyshea Butcher and is bent on vengeance with the help of her shadow mythical beasts, Jennelle is a human and a brilliant strategist who commands the Northern citadel and then Cametta is a Draghon who is determined to find and rescue her lover who was kidnapped. There are other groups of humans involved and an order of Wizards who may maintain that they are not involved and are above the conflicts. These three have to somehow work out who is their friend, who is their enemy, who has caused the dark skies and death mists, and if they have time after all of that if they have a chance at love.

This was a great epic story with lots of twists, turns dead ends and surprises. I liked the writing style and the detailed descriptions of the people, places and emotions being felt by all of the characters. It was lovely to have the centre of the story with strong females who were able to do what they felt was the right thing. This is the first book in the series but I think you could read it stand alone too.

Something Like Voodoo Something Like Voodoo by Rebecca Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Emily has an ability to predict death via her drawings and after moving to a new school she meets the gorgeous Noah who has his own secrets. Noah needs Emily in order to save him from Sarah - leader of the school's IT girls - who has placed a Voodoo curse on him. However when she tries to help him it fails and even worse puts her in Sarah's sight too. Can she save herself, him, or even the both of them?

I loved this story. It had lots of drama plus both good and bad magic. It was nice to read what was a love story intertwined with a story of magic, history and power between families. It was well written and everything was clearly explained.

Review: Shattering Glass by Connor Coyne 4 of 5 stars

Shattering Glass Shattering Glass by Connor Coyne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

A billionaire funds a new university in the city of Arkaic, Michigan in what used to be a psychiatric hospital. There strange engines create electricity from memories from humans in the area. This story follows first year students Samo, Monty, Ezzie, and Dunya through not only the normal student obsessions at college, but they also battle ancient evil powers.

The writing was very good with lots of free flowing and detailed descriptions of the surroundings, people and events in the story. There was lots of drama and it wasn't always obvious what was going to happen or where it was going to go. The clubs that could be joined for extra-curricular activities had names that made me laugh out loud and some of their activities also added to that impression (not sure that the author intended for there to be that much humour in the book but it certainly amused me). I look forward to the next book in the series as there is more to say about the powers, the university and the students.

Ricki is human and has recently had a painful break-up from a cheating ex but wants (for the first time in months) to flirt with someone who gives her tingles in the right place. However she goes from hot fling to heartbreak in the one night.

It might only be a novella, but I loved this story as it fit very well into the series. It was full of drama and excitement as any story with shifters/vampires if likely to be. It was well written and everything was well explained and I could empathise and relate to all the feelings and emotions experienced by the characters.

Dance: Cinderella Retold Dance: Cinderella Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mai goes to war as boy (even though she is a woman) in order to avoid disgrace for her father's household and her witch stepmother. All she has with her are the armour she is wearing and her mother's red shoes. Prince Yi is the best swordsman in the land and has no interest in marriage, however his father demands he look for a wife after the current war is complete. Mai needs to both win the war and Yi's heart if she is to have happiness in the future.

This was a great story and retelling of Cinderella. It might be book 3 in a series BUT it can be read stand alone. It was well written and far enough away from the original that it kept interest and had surprises in the plot even though we all knew what the very end would be. It was very well written and I could definitely feel the emotions felt by the characters in the story.

Review: The Fi Experiment by Paul David Ali 5 of 5 stars

The Fi Experiment The Fi Experiment by Paul David Ali
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

The Fi are an alien race that have been watching the planet and studying the inhabitants (all forms of life from the smallest to the largest) and have chosen one inhabitant to be their contact - shame they have chosen badly.

Alice goes to find and visit her engineer cousin who is holed up in a remote abandoned farm that is owned by the family in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. He is still rude and obnoxious (like he was when they were younger) but demands she come back with a video camera as he has a message to tell the world.

This is a rather strange book that can be read with occasional videos that can be watched online (instructions are given on how to watch them). I have to say for me I preferred to read the written transcripts that are in the book at the correct locations as for me it flowed better that way.

I enjoyed the story and the events depicted in the story. The alien race was quite accurate as per common belief today among those that currently believe they have seen or been abducted by aliens. I loved the level of descriptions at the start of the book which was very good and detailed and although it was not quite as good as at the start it was still of a high level through the rest of the book. I loved the way the story ended and the effect it had on the various characters. I did feel that I wanted the story of the cousin to finish a bit more complete as I assumed he would need a job at the end.

God's Rogue God's Rogue by Kevin S. Chambers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

Kaden Hunt is what is known as the Traveller and he protects the human race in an effort to also free them from Enki and Shamash - two warring leaders of the Annunaki (who created humans to be their slaves). In order to achieve that Kaden needs to start a new cycle as himself and embrace who and what he is. However that could lead to dire consequences not just for humans but for the multiverse.

I liked this book which had a unique concept and story. It was full of action and drama with lot of opportunities to understand the personality of Kaden and his beliefs. I liked many of the characters in the stories and the depth of them. Everything was clearly written and I could understand the emotions of the characters and feel empathy for them.

Myths of Midwinter Myths of Midwinter by Sarah M. Cradit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

You have to read the previous books in the series for this book to be enjoyable and make sense.

Quillan Sullivan lost hi twin brother years ago but he has never been without Riley as he can see and hear him even though no one else can. He thought it was a fluke until Estella Broussard tells him otherwise. Estella seems to despise Quinlan and on her return from time abroad nothing including him is good enough for her but she desperately wants to talk to her late grandmother so has decided to use him. Meanwhile Nerys is guiding Alexsandr and Finn to find Ana to bring her home but they are unaware that there is a grave danger at home for the Deschanels and Sullivans via a Necromancer.

I found this story to be slow to start but it built to give increasing drama and complexity as the story went on. It pulled together a lot of threads in the series which hopefully means it will make your sense later on. It was well written and I understood everything and could feel the emotions being experienced by the characters. Now I just need to read the next one in the series.

Kerry is a witch that has a connection to vampire Finn that she is doing everything she can to fight against - if only she could stop being consumed constantly by thoughts and dreams about him. Will her heart or her mind win on this issue? Will she go with her coven and ignore him or pursue something with Finn and lose the coven? She then discovers that the supernatural underworld are on the brink of war and the sides are already taken.

I loved this story. It was full of drama and emotions with no clear path until the story had progressed further. There were some twists and turns just to remind you that you hadn't really worked it all out. It was well written and everything was clear. It was heartening to see the love between the friends and their mates that transcended race and accepted standards.

Vanek Vanek by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

Dylan has been promised to a Soul Broker by her family but is desperate to escape him and his brutality. Having acted impulsively she is in the Morningstar Sanitarium hiding and trying to avoid returning to the real world when she is drawn to Vanek who is also there. They are separated when they both escape and she goes to Expat Security is protection and a new identity, however she finds Vanek there and is determined to leave as one demon in her life is more than enough.

Vanek had a reputation in Hell as a Painkiller and freaks out when he realises he is in a human body but feels better when he realises he is now a mercenary (with a bit of kink). As he meets other team members from Hell they start to group together and are known as the Trinity Demons. When he meets the Soul Broker who "owns" Dylan he realises with his growing feelings for her he has to protect her, and that he also needs to track down the conspiracy that wrongly sent him there in the first place.

This is a great new series connecting to the original Primani stories. It was great to see a demon as the good guy and that after all of that drama he did receive some kind of a reward. I love the direction of the story and can't wait to see how it develops (with lots of twists and turns I'm sure). The book was well written and the story was well explained. Feelings were described well and I could definitely empathise with the characters.

The Protector Program is a predictive policing system designed to protect and uses Passive ID chips implanted in citizen's wrists to collect date, identify people and provide access to their homes, cars and buy things in shops. The core of the system are risk prediction algorithms that analyse the user data which has resulted in the elimination of crime in most areas. Marus Winde is the Senior Algorithm Architect and has dedicated his life to working on the system and it's algorithms.

Reality comes crashing down towards him when his young son Cade vanishes in a public park in broad daylight. As he searches the data to find his son he realises that the system is corruptible and no match for human intuition.

I love this story and the concept. It was well written and the plot was well thought out. I liked that there were a few twists and turns in the story and it wasn't obvious where it was going. It was well written and I could feel the emotions they were experiencing.

Many years ago there were 2 ancient races - one connected to fire, the other connected to nature. They lived in harmony and peace for centuries until the nature loving race was attacked and the fire loving ones turned their backs on them. The nature race when into hiding and have emerged in secret and are called the Quinlans. However the fire race split into two factions following the abandoning of the nature race - one side was happy to follow restrictive rules, the other wanted o restore the original values for their people. There is a prophesy promising hope and fixing the splits between and in both races and the Deschanel family are at the heart of that. They just need to sort out the roles, the different players and how to take it forward.

The book starts with Ana, Finn and Aidrik looking for a safe place for her to give birth and they end up at Finn's grandfather's house. They send Aleksandr to Ophelie to the safety of Nicholas and the rest of the family while they go with Aidrik to meet Aidrik to try and progress the case of the group that want to restore to the original values. Amelia and Jacob have travelled to Ireland to get answers on his Quinlan roots. Can all of the pieces of the puzzle move together into something whole that makes sense and will everyone stay safe?

I loved this book although I did get a bit lost in the middle as there were so many threads appearing and needing to be pulled together. It was definitely easy to pick up the emotions involved in the story and feel what the characters were experiencing. You have to have read the previous books before reading this one.

Arjun's Diary - The Call to Battle Arjun's Diary - The Call to Battle by Umesh M. Sethi
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

This book merges a story in the present day with an ancient story called the Mahabharata told from the viewpoint of Arjuna.

The present day story focuses on Sandhya who is an Indian woman working in IT who wants to live in the US where she currently works permanently. She is in India to attend a cousin's wedding and is trying to work out how to tell her parents about that decision as she knows they would prefer she lived in India and married. She is also trying to understand her old friend Raghav so they can catch up on old times.

The ancient story is told by a hermit that helps Raghav (friend of Sandhya, ex-army and bodyguard), GK Sethi the billionaire and his daughter who employed Raghav. They agree to hear his story in return for his help.

I found both stories pleasant on their own, I understood the event that meant that Raghav heard the ancient story, but I didn't really understand the connection between the two stories apart from the main characters that heard the ancient story being in the modern story in some way. It was pleasant to read and I enjoyed the ancient story but it ended there.

Rosamond and some of her entourage are struck down with a mystery sickness after attending a wedding at a neighbouring kingdom. She cures her companions but has no knowledge as to how to help herself.

He has a kingdom in trouble but keeps getting lost in her mesmerising green eyes. He also suspects she holds the key to solve the kingdom's problems.

I really liked this story. It was a clever retelling of Sleeping Beauty which had enough of a twist that although I knew it would have a HEA it was still nice to see how they got to there and how the kingdom would be saved. As usual it was well written and carefully thought out.

Until Ivie and her best friend Donna were kidnapped by vampires 6 months ago she had no idea that they really existed. Since then Donna has taken up with a very hot Scottish vampire called Conner and has even been turned by him. Ivie still has nightmares and can't face vampires but as she knows them is comfortable with Donna and her fiance Conner (yes they are getting married)

Alexander Dimitriades (Lex) is tall, dark, handsome and gives Ivie tingles in all the right places. However Ivie is concerned about giving up her humanity to be with him as well as the whole drinking/donating process which just terrifies her after the kidnapping ordeal. As hard as she is fighting it Ivie can feel herself falling in love with him. However they then have to quell a vampire uprising who want to kill other vampires and turn humans into their slaves. What does a girl have to do to have a quiet life?

I loved this story. It was a vampire love story with the addition of some BDSM. The path to true love never runs smoothly and this was certainly the case for Ivie and Lex. It was as usual for this author well written and everything was clear and easy to understand. I liked the way the story was setting up what could possibly happen in the future, however I would love to know what happens for Lex and Ivie in the future too.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Vampires Marcia and Louis usually feed from each other but enjoy the occasional taste of blood from a virgin - a vegetarian virgin is even more special to them. Louis becomes completely besotted by a young art student that meets all of those criteria and Marcia is worried she will completely lose him. With the aid of Alphonse an much older member of their community she disguises herself as Marc and seduces the girl and beats Louis to the first blood from her and then flees to Paris as she knows Louis will find out what she has done.

This was an interesting story. I liked the concept of the differences in the taste of blood and that the purity of the person affecting it too. It was sexually explicit so be warned. I'm not sure about the process that turned Marcia to Marc - how did she know what to do? Reasonably well written and most things were clear and easy to understand.
