My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Derek and Basil are happily settled three years into their relationship, building a quiet, fulfilling life together while supporting the teens at the Ted House shelter. Their routine is suddenly shaken when a pregnant teen asks them to adopt her baby. Derek longs for a family with Basil but fears becoming the kind of father he grew up with. As stress and outside pressures mount, both men begin to doubt whether they’re ready for parenthood — and whether their relationship can withstand the strain. The question becomes whether love, commitment, and healing are enough to carry them through the storm.
For a novella, this story delivers an incredible amount of emotion. Derek and Basil are already a couple you can’t help but love, and watching them navigate the complications of their own lives alongside the challenges of the adoption process made the journey feel even more intimate and heartfelt. I was completely invested in both men — their fears, their hopes, and the way they fought to hold onto each other when life got messy. The emotional stakes are high, and the feelings hit hard, but that’s exactly what makes this story so compelling. A beautifully written, deeply felt continuation of their love story that’s easy to read, easy to understand, and impossible not to feel. This was an MM story with mature content.
