Review: Sleepwater Static by Kathrin Hutson 3 of 5 stars

Sleepwater Static (Blue Helix Book 2)Sleepwater Static by Kathrin Hutson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Wyoming’s Sleepwater chapter is on the run and unable to stop in order to rest nor mourn their lost members. Hunted for their ability to spin a beat, Bernadette Manney takes what is left of the group back to a place she swore she would never return to - Hollywood, South Carolina and to the cabin that she lived in with her parents hoping it is remote enough to lay low and catch a break, but not for long. Their beats are condemned as mutations, radical terrorist tactics, and felonies punishable both by and outside the law. It may have been Bernadette's thought that they would be safe there, but returning to her Southern roots will unleash the demons she left behind there when she left. Things like her past life, love and even her flesh and blood won't let her move on from the rest of society who are intent on rooting out her people. Now, to bring a mother’s first child safely into an unsafe world, Bernadette must face her own shame from before Sleepwater itself was born. But redemption and forgiveness may be too much to ask, and it may just be too late.

This dystopian story was at times an intense read which explored how Bernadette got into the situation she is currently in from the point of view of her history. She is an elderly woman with arthritic knees and this looks at the events of her younger years in the Hollywood area. I did find the frequent changes in pace as we went back in time to another event from her younger years a bit frustrating in the end even though I could see that the author had tried to highlight the change by changing to a more italic style font. It was well written in that it was clear and easy to read and understand, however, I started to get lost between whether I was in the present or the past as my attention had drifted off at some point. You should read the first book in this series before reading this one as I think a better understanding of Sleepwater would help a lot.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review: Vampires Prefer Blondes by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Vampires Prefer Blondes (Psy-Vamp #3)Vampires Prefer Blondes by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lydia was obsessed with Dominic and craved his touch until the day she died. Now, the memories of her time are more like a nightmare. As she pieces it all together, the events of the past several months it appears that the man who nearly destroyed her will stop at nothing to get her back. After everything she has been through, can she put her trust in another vampire to keep her safe? Roman has gone through the motions of life for the past four centuries as no woman has broken through the ice that encases his heart. Everything changes when he sees her - he is captivated from the moment he sees her fighting for her life in a hospital room. When his energy mingles with hers, the psychic vampire in him instantly recognizes her as his perfect mate and he will do anything in his power to keep her safe.

I loved this story which has a powerful love story all wrapped around a story of drama, danger and the use of various psychic abilities. I loved the way that the relationship between Roman and Lydia developed and the intensity that feelings came. Well written and very enjoyable, I just could not put this book down and devoured it like a meal after a prolonged period of hunger. Definitely recommended. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Graveyard Guardians Box Set: Books 1-3 Plus Prequel Novella by Jennifer Malone Wright 5 of 5 stars

Graveyard Guardians Box Set: Books 1-3 Plus Prequel NovellaGraveyard Guardians Box Set: Books 1-3 Plus Prequel Novella by Jennifer Malone Wright
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

# 1 - Keeper vs Reaper - 5*

Lucy Mae Estmond inherited the family business when her father died - something she had known all her life. The business was actually to be a Keeper and watch over the souls of the recently passed, keeping them safe from the Reapers The soul eating Reapers have been a plague upon the Earth, stealing souls and leaving the Keepers as the only thing that stands between Heaven and Hell. The factions despise each other and have warred for generations. Then Lucy discovers an ancient legend predicting the arrival of the Chosen One, destined to bring forth an end to the Reapers. The surprises continue when she realizes she is that person. For Lucy, being the Chosen One doesn’t change much. Fighting Reapers is just another day in the life of a Keeper. When she meets Jack Walker, they both realize they have an insane, mutual attraction. Too bad that he’s been sent to prevent the prophecy from coming true. His only mission: to kill the Chosen One.

This was a dramatic supernatural story that had all of the required elements of a battle and love interrupting the plans of one side of the battle. It was an interesting concept that grew on me as I read more of the story. Well written and easy to understand, I'm looking forward to reading what happens next in the series.

#2 - Keeper of the Peace - 4*

This is the second in the Graveyard Guardians series. This one concentrates on Hannah and her first (and forever) love David Foster who broke her heart by leaving to join the police at the other side of the country and make something of himself over 10 years ago.

Hannah kills a Reaper and panics - the problem being the body is found, she is probably easy to link to the murder, and David is the detective investigating the murder. Will true love win, will Hannah be imprisoned for murder and will David find out what she is?

I nice story of love against all the circumstances that conspire to pull them apart. I enjoyed reading it but I did find some of the things happening a little far fetched. I also couldn't work out a few things that didn't make sense so maybe it was rushed. I could definitely see a next book involving Aiden and Liv, and we still need to know what happens to Hannah's job.

#3 - Reaper under Fire - 5*

Olivia Estmond has made a decision - she has had enough of waiting for the Keepers to attack her family, so she now wants to go on the offensive and attack them instead. This is especially important after the Keepers are told by their Empress to kill her entire family. Aiden was a high-ranking soldier in the Keeper army but has now changed sides to be with Jack his best friend. He has also developed an attraction to Olivia that just cannot be denied.

Wow - so many twists and turns in this dramatic story. It went from a fairly quiet period where Aiden was just a double agent to all-out war. Then as a backdrop was the developing relationship between Aiden and Liv which was definitely a will they/won't they situation. It was well written and very enjoyable. Now I just NEED to know how everything develops and what happens next.

#0 - Summer Hollow - 4*

Kat Davenport lives with her family in the Bay Area and guards souls by night, but during the day she goes to school. With the training she has received, she is good at what she does, so when she is reassigned to guard the graveyard in Summer Hollow, she is not impressed. Gregory Esmond has taken over the graveyard in Summer Hollow following the death of his parents, so it is not easy to share the graveyard with this new arrival. Kat to him is loud-mouthed, inappropriate at times and completely fearless - almost a complete opposite from himself. Can they sort things out in order to work together? After all, their lives depend on it.

I really liked this prequel to the series which was a nice introduction and explained a few things. I loved Kat and Gregory and their relationship which was very sweet. I did, however, not enjoy the switch to many years later in the later stages of the book. I found that a little strange. Well written, it was easy to read and understand.

Review: Safe Hex With a Vampire by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Safe Hex With a Vampire (Psy-Vamp #2)Safe Hex With a Vampire by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tempest has been hunting a series rapist for years and finally believes that she has caught him. However, her sense of triumph is very short-lived when she realises that she has the wrong man. Before she can decide what to do with him, she discovers that she and the unconscious man share a secret - neither of them is human. Maybe he could explain the origins of her family's unusual talents. When Aiden regains consciousness he is not very happy to realise he is locked in a cage-like wild animal. Aiden can't help but be completely captivated by the mystery woman who beares a striking resemblance to a woman from his uncle's past. He also can't help but be aroused by her. Could she be the one to end his loneliness? Or will her past prevent her from opening her heart to him?

I loved this story which was full of drama, excitement and plenty of action to keep you captivated with the action and snappy dialogue between Tempest and Aiden who were the perfect couple if only they could trust each other. Well written and easy to feel and understand, I really enjoyed this story which was a great second instalment to the series which proves that the series is going to be good for more than the one book.

Review: Vampires and Vixens by Cassandra Lawson 4 of 5 stars

Vampires and Vixens (Psy-Vamp Book 1)Vampires and Vixens by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Loneliness can sometimes lead to dangerous obsessions and when Hannah has a strange encounter at a college party, what she believes happened cannot be true surely? She then finds herself caught between two brothers - one is determined to possess her and the other is determined to protect her. However, they both have dark secrets and they will change her life forever. Who knew that all of this could stem from the one party?

This was a dramatic story that had many layers as it progressed and the story moved on. I felt so sorry for Hannah although, in the end, she seems to have managed to find happiness. There were a lot of dramatic moments in the story and it was definitely a rollercoaster ride as events started to move forward quickly and a final conclusion was reached quickly. Well written, it was easy to read and understand. It does contain some sexual content.

Review: His Fiery Kiss by Celia Kyle by Marina Maddix 5 of 5 stars

His Fiery Kiss (Real Men of Wildridge #1)His Fiery Kiss by Celia Kyle by
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Journalist and panther shifter Elissa Malkin has always lived her life on the straight and narrow even if her father has not. So she is very distressed to realise that thanks to him she has unwittingly become the getaway driver for a cat burglar friend of his. Then her boss assigns her to report on the Wildridge Security company which is the company tasked with finding the burglar! Dragon shifter Ragan DeFever is relieved when he is given something real to do instead of his normal role as sitting behind a desk and when he has to babysit a hot reporter too what's not to like? He just can't wait to cut his teeth on this case and solve it for real - the fact that the reporter makes his heart blaze with endless flames is a bonus. However, it soon appears that all is not as it appears and Elisa is actually a wanted woman in more ways than he expected - how is she going to get out of this and how can he move past this?

This was a dramatic and sweet story that had lots of action and in the end, everything seems to have finally worked itself out for the best. Well written and easy to feel and understand I read this book faster and faster as I became hooked on the story and just needed to know how it was going to end. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Galen's Gemma by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Galen's Gemma (Heroes for Hire Book 23)Galen's Gemma by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Galen had planned to relax but when Levi asked him to help out Zack on a case set in a brewery he's game to escape the compound which is a bit too full of couples in love for him. When there with Zack he meets Gemma and her sister Rebecca who is the real reason the call for help was sent. Gemma had learnt a long time ago how to handle her sister and her niece. So when they both end up in deep trouble she drops everything and takes charge of the situation. However, it IS dangerous and she really needs help and although Galen wasn't what she had in mind, but he appears to be capable. What she certainly didn't expect was a situation that required focus due to the danger and the result which could be love at first sight.

This was a lovely story that was quite convoluted at times and a real mystery which only became clear at the very end. I like the feistiness of Gemma and the calm way that Galen handled whatever was thrown at him. There was plenty of action at times and throughout the story, there was the mystery of what happened and who did what to solve. The final conclusion will be surprising to the way the story started. I liked the way the story was written which was clear and easy to read and I enjoyed the mystery as I tried to figure out who did what. There is only sexual content at the very end of the story.

Review: Rescued by the Alien Pirate by Celia Kyle by Athena Storm 2 of 5 stars

Rescued by the Alien Pirate (Mates of the Kilgari #1)Rescued by the Alien Pirate by Celia Kyle by Athena Storm
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Varia woke up from cryostasis as a prisoner but she has no idea what she did to become one. It appears that she is not alone in there as they are a hundred other women and they also have no idea what they did and why they are there. Even worse, they appear to be in a dark and dirty cargo hold on a spaceship. Then out of the darkness comes someone to rescue them in the form of a horned and golden-skinned alien called Solair. He gives them food, shelter and the promise of safety - in return, it appears he wants Varia. However, it appears that the people who took the women want them back, and they are powerful so the only thing stopping them is Solair. Seems what he wants he keeps - and that now includes Varia. Will everything work out for them all?

The summary of this book read really well, but I have to be honest and say I struggled with it. Varia was such a moaner and never satisfied that it soon became very boring and I started to switch off. There were still good elements of the story with the exchange of information about the Kilgari race and the explanation of the whole mate concept, but the constant moaning was just too much in between all of that interesting content. I don't think I will be reading any more in this series every though Celia Kyle is an author.

Review: Time Thieves by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Time ThievesTime Thieves by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sari Harrods has finally returned to her childhood home where 15 years ago she witnessed something that has remained a secret ever since - especially as even her mother (who was the only other witness) was refusing to acknowledge it. But Sari has refused to forget it and will never stop trying to find her father by reversing the series of events that took him away. That same 15 years ago when they were both 10, Sari's best friend and sweetheart Ward was totally devastated when Sari's mother fled to France and took Sari with her. Having reconnected on her return, can they solve the mystery of what happened together or will they run out of time and become victims themselves?

This was a great story that had the requisite ingredients of a mystery, a romance and some drama and danger thrown in. I loved the premise of the story and the way they found out the truth and solved the mystery as well as the practicalities of their relationship. There are plenty of moments where the story could go in different ways and it wasn't always possible to predict which way it was going to go. Well written and easy to read I really enjoyed this story which is a stand-alone one. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Keith by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Keith (Hathaway House)Keith by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Keith came to Hathaway House at his sister Robin’s insistence as she worked there and knew what they could do to help him Keith thinks it is a waste of time as he has already given up and is really only going there to keep her happy - especially as the trip there has left him weak and particularly bad-tempered. His opinion is that he’s broken beyond repair, and nothing they can do will fix him. However, no one there agrees with him whether that be the doctors, the therapist, his sister and certainly no the tiny woman who keeps delivering him his coffee at 5 am each morning. Ilse is the head chef at Hathaway House and rarely goes anywhere outside of the kitchen where she is comfortable. dealing with groceries that the rest of the kitchen staff than dealing with all of the pain and suffering being experienced by all the people she feeds. However, something about Keith and his family calls to her and she can't help but go out of her way in order to make sure that he has everything that he needs although she then starts to realise that she cannot keep that relationship on a professional level once she has started to go down that path. Because at the end of it all, Keith's best interests are more important than her own.

This was a sweet story that charted Keith's progress as he battled his inner demons and found a way to find himself believing in a future - something he never dreamed was possible for him. I enjoyed the steps that they both took in sorting out their thoughts and feelings even if at the end of the story I found the final conclusion a bit rushed considering the time it took to reach those conclusions. Well written and easy to read and understand, you won't be able to put this book down as you get drawn into the story.

Review: Jewels in the Juniper by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Jewels in the Juniper (Lovely Lethal Gardens #10)Jewels in the Juniper by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The problem as Doreen becomes more notorious is that people have very unfair expectations into what she can achieve. This is brought into sharp focus when her friend Mack’s mother, Millicent Moreau, asks for her to help find the owner of some jewels she found years ago in the Juniper at the front of their house. Feeling backed into a corner, Doreen feels obliged to help - especially as she feels it can't do any harm to check it out apart from annoying Mack (but what's new?). But when this "small problem" starts to go into a daily marriage, a burnt down jewellery store, possible insurance fraud and maybe even murder, Doreen has to admit she is in way over her head. With her three constant companions (furry and feathered), she'll bring and old case to the present and find out it is far more current than she thought.

This shows that something that appears very simple, can soon spiral into something far more involved. Through it all Doreen was her usual inquisitive and determined self, doing everything she could to get to the bottom of things. I loved the relationship between Doreen and Mack which may have turned a slight corner as she started to miss him whenever he left her alone. Well written and skilfully told, it was a great mystery and whodunit all rolled into one. Easy to read and very easy to get addicted to. Definitely recommended.

Review: The Fair by John A. Heldt 5 of 5 stars

The Fair (Time Box, #2)The Fair by John A. Heldt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Months after they stole two time machines from a madman and billionaire Robert Devereux who is determined to get them back, from his former partner and the rest of the Lane family (a total of 6 people) arrived in 1893 where the bulk of the family seek fun and excitement at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Parents Mark and Mary concentrate on the science and sheer splendour of it all, however, three of the children Jeremy, Laura, and Ashley find romance and friendship. The fourth child Jordan has decided to head west in order to find answers after his lost love in the previous book. Jordan ends up in Virginia City, Nevada, where he lands at a mining community and ends up in the heart of a pretty library clerk, Jessie. This book will follow a modern family on the adventure of a lifetime, as they navigate their way through an unforgettable year in American history.

This was a great story where there was a great mixture of joy, heartbreak, danger and drama. There was also time for some humour so it wasn't all serious events too. I loved the attention to detail for the period in history and the way that it was very different especially when compared with the events in their future. They did their best to immerse themselves into the time and the events as they happened which showed clearly that they were the right people to be travelling in the past. Well written and very enjoyable I can't wait for the next story in the series to find out what happens next and what scrapes they are involved in next. I also hope that they start to change certain behaviours in order to make like much easier in the future. Definitely recommended.

Review: Shadow Thief by Eva Chase 5 of 5 stars

Shadow Thief (Flirting with Monsters #1)Shadow Thief by Eva Chase
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Saorsa is a sassy thief who does what she can to release supernatural monsters from the cages they are placed in within collectors homes. She then let's rip and allows her pyromaniac tendencies free and leaves the whole place burning. On what was just an ordinary job she let three free from their cages, stole some trinkets to pay bills, and did her usual exit. What she didn't count on is that the three very manly monsters would follow her home. So now she has a seductively cheeky incubus, a sweetly enthusiastic demon, and a grimly stoic angel camped out in my kitchen, determined to repay her for her help, and they won’t get out of the apartment until they’re satisfied they’re even. It appears that a covert band of hunters caught their boss before the trail went cold. In a lucky coincidence, it now means they are after the same people as Saorsa who is determined to find the people who killed the people she loved the most. So she is all in with them. It should be simple surely to track the baddies down, steal back the boss of the three monsters, stay alive and maybe hook up with a gorgeous monster or two.

I absolutely loved this new series which was all the required features - a sassy woman, some hot supernatural beings and a quest that united them. It was easy to read and addictive as I became more and more involved in the story. Lots of danger and drama in the skirmishes with the hunters kept me glued to my Kindle Fire as I couldn't put it down. Easy to understand and feel the thoughts and emotions of the various characters. Does contain sexual content and is a reverse harem style story.

Review: Roping Their Virginby J.L. Beck by Syndi Burns by Cyndi Faria 3 of 5 stars

Roping Their Virgin (Cowboy Billionaires Duet #1)Roping Their Virgin by J.L. Beck by
by

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

She's been away for years training to be a veterinarian, but Maddie Brown's goal on her return home is to collect sexy step-brothers and twins Cole and Warren Pierce and return back to Virginia with them to start A perfect life together. The guys are up for the challenge, but the one complication is Maddie is a virgin. But she has it all figured out - she wants to gift it to them together at the same time. Whilst many say you can't love more than one person at the same time, Maddie's heart has other ideas. How will they get on together?

This story had a few dramatic twists in the story but everything seems to have worked out successfully. I enjoyed the dramatic moments which made it more of a story and less a simple direct route to the desired result for Maddie. Easy to understand and read. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Axel by Tasha Black 4 of 5 stars

Axel (Single Daddy Shifters #1)Axel by Tasha Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Delilah might kid herself that she is conning bear-shifter Axel, but in fact, he and baby Noah are actually stealing her heart instead. Axel adores his son Noah and becoming a dad is certainly the best thing he has ever done. But raising a child on your own is hard and so he decides to get a line-in nanny so that he can concentrate on his business running a garage and working as a mechanic there. When Deliah turns up, Noah loves her and Axel's bear just goes wild at the thought of curvy Deliah. His bear doesn't care if she has secrets, he just doesn't want to let her go. Deliah is not into commitment - she lives her life as a con-artist and has only one policy - never con someone who can't afford it. When she bails on a con for that policy she ends up in the Pennsylvanian town of Tarker’s Hollow playing along to the mistake of thinking she is the new nanny. But as she starts to fall for Noah and his very sexy daddy Axel she finds it harder and harder to remember this is just pretending. When Delilah’s treacherous partners track her down, her fragile new world is suddenly in danger. Can the bear shifter and the con artist trust each other with the truth in time to save everything that is important to them? Or will she run away with the big bear’s heart?

This was a lovely story that had hidden depths with the separate story elements running in parallel as the story developed. I loved the way she quickly grew attached to Noah and Axel, plus the way he then found out another but still accepted her for what she is now. Well written is was very enjoyable and a nice light read that will give you a great distraction from real life. Does contain a little sexual content.

Review: Magic Touch by Luna Joya 5 of 5 stars

Magic Touch (The Legacy Book 2)Magic Touch by Luna Joya
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Witch Delia Donovan feels she has everything under control - she has kept her family's magical secrets hidden and reigned in her powers all she has to do is stay in control when she joins a clandestine FBI task force to solve a cold case murder. But she's met her match when she has to try to ignore the intense sexual chemistry she has to the cocky jerk who leads her security detail. The last thing FBI agent Mark Cavan on the team he is assigned to is a supernatural lawyer Barbie who traipses through crime scenes in designer clothes and stilettos. But the job needs a magical asset with a particular skill and Delia fits the role perfectly. He just needs to ignore his growing attraction to the infuriating woman - surely an ex-marine can do that no problem? It’s not long before Mark learns there’s more to Delia than meets the eye—and Delia realizes that falling for Mark would be the easiest—and most complicated—thing she’s ever done. But they’ll need to put their feelings on the back burner if they want to catch the murderer…before they become the next victims.

Oh wow - just wow. The electricity between these two was off the chart and that did not detract at all from the complicated murder mystery that they start to investigate. There were so much drama and danger mixed into the undeniable pull that was there between the two of them it became a highly addictive story. I couldn't put it down and ignored everyone and everything in order to find out what was happening next. There were times in the story when I was broken-hearted for them and times when I was overjoyed. Well written and very easy to understand and feel. Contains some sexual content.
