Anna Nilsson's first solo mission as a space pirate is to plunder an abandoned luxury cruiser but she discovers she is not alone when she finds a sexy alien looks at her with an ancient hunger. Leo's ancient race suffered greatly at the hands of strangers so is thrilled to wake from stasis to discover his blood mate although he accepts it can never go anywhere as no human would want a shape-shifting barbarian. Things change when they discover a third occupant - a baby - who might be a priceless clone of a famous cultural icon - however, they are going to have to work together to all survive. Can they survive and resist the pull between each other?

This was a nice story of an alien meets human and after the cultural differences, they become a committed couple. The clone baby was a weird touch but gave them something in common during the story. Easy to read and understand it was a nice light read.

The Hounds of Devotion The Hounds of Devotion by Eva Chase

Now Moriarty is free of the contract with the shrouded folk she can start to destroy all their influence in the world. To help her she has her right-hand man Bash and her three new allies - Sherlock, John, and Garrett although she does worry that her growing affection for them will dull her edge in what she has to do. As it is when the shrouded folk discover her intentions they target her friends which makes her wonder - is it a good idea to involve them or will she put them in too much danger?

I really enjoyed this instalment of the story and the way that the characters and their personalities and interactions developed as we got deeper into it. It was interesting to observe the way the shrouded folk affected the four men and how they each coped with the effects of it. It all ends with a cliff hanger and so I'm intrigued as to what happens next. A well-written story that was easy to understand and empathise with the characters.

A Twist of Fate A Twist of Fate by Aidy Award

Tia Ayininruhu is just a tool for Task Force Omega and hates it. She would end it all but the shining soul of her lion shifter gives her a light and purpose to her life. Fedelis is a Star Ranger and has been sent to take out the witch who is after all the souls in the galaxy - however he then discovers she is his one true mate. Can he destroy her soul and by association his own or save the galaxy?

This was a nice story of how these two fated mates came together and managed to struggle with their own misgivings about their instincts and come up with a solution they could both live with (literally). It was quite enjoyable although not as enjoyable as I expected it to be. Clear to understand and comprehend it was a pleasant read.

Review: SEALs of Honor: Books 4-6 Swede, Shadow and Cooper by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

SEALs of Honor: Books 4-6 Swede, Shadow and Cooper SEALs of Honor: Books 4-6 Swede, Shadow and Cooper by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great value collection of SEAL stories.

Swede - 4*

Swede had watched his brothers in arms fall for their perfect women and just hoped one day he would be as lucky. He then pushed those thoughts away as he was on a mission in Mexico watching a rebel camp only to stumble upon a group of civilians - including the one woman he thought was wrong for him. Eva had a long time love of animals and so when a friend asked her to come help move some suffering horses from Mexico to new homes she felt she couldn't refuse. However, she finds herself in trouble until she sees Swede who is determined to keep her safe and extract her from the danger no matter the personal cost. Can she protect her heart and can they beat the rebel's plan which will not be a happy ending for either of them?

This was a powerful story which included lots of danger and drama as they fought to save the animals, each other and found something perfect at the same time. I loved the way it wasn't a simple matter of boy and girl meet in a dangerous scenario and after a miraculous escape, they lived happily ever after. Instead, it was more difficult as Eva needed a lot of persuasions to go with her hidden feelings and they needed compromise, in the end, to find a way forward. Well written I liked the exploration of their emotions and feelings.

Shadow - 4*

Shadow has ignored the uphill struggle of life concentrating instead of being a great SEAL until he has to go and rescue Arianna and her family when his world goes from controlled to chaos. Arianna struggles to cope with the world of kidnappings and beatings that she has been plunged into although there is one very good thing (or person) - the darkest and most dangerous saviour she has ever met. Shadow has no idea what to do with her, although she has a few ideas - however she is marked for elimination and he has to save her before he loses something he had no idea he wanted in the first place, and now he realises he can't live without. Can he save her?

This is a great story with a dark and dangerous SEAL not realising what he has until almost the last moment. It had lots of drama, danger and excitement as he fought to save Arianna. A sweet story even if there were times I seriously wanted to cuff him around the head and explain the way things were developing between them both. A great HEA at the end to make you feel all gooey. Well written and enjoyable.

Cooper - 4*

Dr. Sasha Childs saved committed SEAL Cooper's life and stole his heart, but as a married woman, he knew nothing could happen. However, when he hears that she is kidnapped he is the first to volunteer to go and rescue her. Sasha has devoted her life to helping others but when he finds her husband in bed with her best friend, she knows everything is over. Feeling unsettled she volunteers as a medic in a Syrian refugee camp in order to pull her life together. With his hands full rescuing Sasha once. when back in the US it becomes almost impossible to save her from them a second time. But with this miracle in his life, he has to do whatever it takes to save the woman he loves before it is too late.

This was very much a mystery as Cooper and Sasha tried to find out why she was kidnapped and to try and have a chance at a future together. There was a lot of drama and intrigue as they worked their way through the mysteries that they were faced with. It was a sweet love story that like the previous book in the series was a bit frustrating as Cooper struggled to catch on that she really wanted him. It was great when they eventually had the HEA they needed even though I found it a little frustrating the way the story ended a little abruptly (missing out what happened to those who had kidnapped her in the end). On the whole, well written and very enjoyable.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A very clever and enjoyable collection of horror short stories that are very enjoyable. They were well written and very easy to understand and experience what the characters were going through. This author really is a master at the subtle and fooling you into what is going to happen in these stories so that you are surprised when it finally does. I particularly enjoyed Insidious Infidelity which definitely hit the right spot in my appreciation of a clever plot and story. Definitely recommended and not as horror focused as you would think (I don't like horror myself) so worth a try.

Vampire Detective Midnight Vampire Detective Midnight by JC Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Naoko "Nick" Tanaka is a vampire homicide detective recently transferred to the NYPD where he works in the employ of the human police. Described as a "Midnight" he gets his food delivered to the government housing he lives in. His wish is to be left alone and be able to work in peace but after just two weeks it all goes sideways when paintings start to appear on the street predicting murders with great accuracy before they happen. He becomes embroiled in the artist, dead hybrid-humans, a school principal who unsettles him and a conspiracy involving a very prominent and rich New York family. As he gets sucked into it all further will he survive or get re-programmed?

I absolutely loved this brand new series from this author which had a lot of grit, determination, drama, danger and raw emotions from the characters. I can't wait to find out what happens to Nick next and see where the stories take him. You can tell from the way he behaved in this story that he is going to be right there in the thick of anything happening in the future. Well written this was really enjoyable and I think would appeal to those who have enjoyed the Bridge and Sword series as well as new readers to the author.

#7 - The Lonely Wolf - 4*

Ludwig is an Archangel and Quintilius is an Alpha werewolf. They have been in love for over 2000 years but as they are from rival special they are stuck in a forbidden love, made so much worse when Ludwig chooses his career/duty over love. Lupo is a young werewolf who is full of anger and frustration striving to get a position in the Reds street gang in Rome. Then suddenly he finds love where he least expects it. In a fateful coincidence, Ludwig saves a vampire from a werewolf attack and makes a discovery that will link his life with Quintilius and Lupo's forever. However, he has to handle vampires, werewolves and angels plotting against them first.

There are a couple of stories woven into the story of Ludwig and Quintilius and their love for each other. Lupo was definitely an interesting part of the story and although in this one it covered his relationship with his father Quintilius, it also signposted a potential book detailing his relationship with Jasmine the Panther. I enjoyed the way that the characters in the book explored their feelings and eventually came to the correct conclusions even if they took their time getting to what I feel was the right conclusion. Well written and enjoyable.

#8 - Lupo - 4*

Werewolf Lupo has lost everything as his soulmate Jasmine died in a tragic accident which he feels responsible for. The paranormal court sentenced him to 12 months in the Roman prison Regina Coeli where past enemies plus his own regrets mean it is only his imaginary conversations with Jasmine that are keeping him sane. As he is released he is forced to deal with the real life and the thought that Jasmine is actually alive in his mind. Can he find the strength to fight for his life and have a happy ending?

This was a story that was both sweet and dramatic as Lupo had to deal with the worst that the prison and inmates there had to offer. Thankfully he wasn't going mad and Jasmine was, in fact, alive - however, he is going to need every bit of strength he can muster if he is going to find and save her. This was definitely a bit of a rollercoaster of a story which I really enjoyed. It was well written and very enjoyable as everything was unfolding. You don't need to have read the previous books in the series although it will give you extra context for the relationships between the other characters in the story.

#9 - An Immortal Christmas - 4*

In the distant past, Camelia left Constantine to marry an Italian werewolf. So in desperation, he asked a warlock to revoke his soulmate bonds to Camelia - the price was huge - if they were ever physically located near to each other he would die by the next full moon. So he moved to Seattle and concentrated on living a life on his own. However Camelia is in Seattle and there is a full moon o Christmas Day - which is actually tomorrow. Can the power of love give them both a happy ending and save Constantine?

This was a charming story of an ancient frustrated love and how it all comes right at Christmastime. There was a lot of detail around the thoughts and emotions of both Camelia and Constantine and what happened in the past. An enjoyable Christmas story.

The Scorpion The Scorpion by John A. Autero
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Three friends stumble upon government information describing a top-secret plant for a new source of energy. They are determined to stop the spread of misinformation from corrupt elements of the US Government and start spreading the truth instead. This then becomes a mixture of a suspense story and a morality story working out that legal is not always right. The pace goes faster and faster as the danger ramps up and their exposure to the corrupt elements increases. Can they finally reveal everything that is true or will they fall to the corrupt sections of the government?

I really enjoyed this story which was gripping and addictive as I got further and further into this deep and meaningful suspense story. It was well written and enjoyable once I got past the ground I had to understand at the start of the book - so my advice would be to prevail and you will start to enjoy it more as you understand it more fully.

Her Warrior: A Reverse Harem Fantasy Romance Her Warrior: A Reverse Harem Fantasy Romance by Alice Wilde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We join them after the end of book 3 and continuing the story of Annalise and her shifters. Ero is with the Viking army, so she is just with Roan and Li on a ship travelling to Li's homeland to get help. However Roan is barely able to look at her and her heart is broken - Li is all that keeps her going. When they arrive in China it becomes evident that getting them on their side is going to be the hardest ask so far. With her life and honour at stake, it is unclear how she is going to convince such a great kingdom to help. Will the emperor help or see Li as a threat to the throne? All Li knows for sure at this moment is that Li is her only comfort.

This instalment has plenty of drama and action (some of which might surprise you). I loved the way they had to think on their toes and handle all sorts of difficult situations. Li was a complete sweetheart and I loved the way they were able to connect. Annalise definitely came into her own and was able to contribute and take actions in order to help the situations they found themselves in. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so I really can't wait to find out what is going to happen next. Well written and very enjoyable, everything was clearly explained so that I could feel the pain and joy experienced by the characters in the story.

Blaze Blaze by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blaze had planned to go home to Rockfield, Kentucky at some point - just not yet. However when Badger gives him a reason to go there - to help a lost K9 Shepherd called Solo who has dissociative issues he knows he has to go there and try to find her. Camilla is an event planner and tries to avoid hitting a dog that runs across the road in front of her. Blaze sees the accident and stops to help her as well as make sure the dog (who he suspects is Solo is also ok). He realises Camilla is great fun and she gives him the first reason he has had to smile in a very long time. However some people's memories run long and never forget insults, so someone is not at all happy about their friendship. How far will this person go to keep them apart?

This story was action from start to finish as the mystery of who was behind the attacks was developed until the explosive finale as it became clear of the who and why behind it all. It was great for Blaze to learn more about his parents as well as explore the relationship with Camilla. Woven into those stories was the story of Solo and how Blaze finally made contact with her and started to trust humans again. I also loved the way she seemed to be protecting Camilla from the attacker. Well written and full of action this was a really enjoyable story of how a retired serviceman found his other half as well as a missing K9.

A Storm of Revelations: Midnight Dynasty Book Two A Storm of Revelations: Midnight Dynasty Book Two by Sarah M. Cradit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two ancient families - on the one side the Deschanels, on the other the sinister LaViolettes, both have age-old secrets but underlying all of that is a deep and abiding hatred of each other. Charlotte is a Deschanel but the LaViolettes make claims about her parentage that must be impossible but also ring true. In drawing closer to Harlowe and the family she realises the great danger to herself, her family and her love Lawrence. As Nicholas rises to the head of the Deschanel family he becomes more distant from Lauren as he realises that to be close to her will put her in greater danger. So he turns away to focus on the LaViolette threat to the family. Nicholas has to work out when to play his hand as Charlotte gets closer to the rabbit hole that is the LaViolette family.

This story was full of intense drama and emotions as the events unfolded between the two families. There were some selfless acts on the part of Nicholas which were unexpected as he was obviously growing up and taking responsibility. This is definitely a game of high stakes and I'm definitely intrigued and want to know how it all turns out. Will the Deschanel family stay safe, will Nicholas and Charlotte regret the choices they have made? Well written and very enjoyable.

The Line Between The Line Between by Tosca Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wynter Roth, her mother and sister are members of doomsday cult New Earth but she is turned out into a world on the brink of madness thanks to a mysterious nationwide outbreak of early onset dementia. Wynter struggles to adapt to the world that she was always told as evil until her sister arrives one night with some medical samples that are the key to understanding the current disease sweeping the nation. As the power grid fails and the nation descends into chaos Wynter needs to find a way to get the samples to a lab in Colorado when she meets former military man Chase Miller who has his own reasons for wanting to get close to her and the samples. Can she get through and will they be able to avoid all the bad people who are looking for her?

This story was definitely a thriller that had action all the way through. I loved the way it described in what I feel was accurate detail, life in a cult and how people can react when they finally escape. Wynter was a very interesting character and I loved the way she met Chase and their mutual distrust and then growing trust over time. I loved the way the story ended and there was an awesome amount of research to make this story as close to real life as it could be (and so it was far easier to imagine it was real). Well written and very enjoyable it was very easy to understand and feel the thoughts and emotions of the characters in this story.

Blood Pact Blood Pact by Nazri Noor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Life should have gone back to a new normal after the destruction of the Dark Room until The Boneyard discovers a new cult determined to bring back the Old Ones. When investigating Dustin recused the strangest thing - a Welsh Corgi dog. However various Gods want the magical dog and the Lorica are still chasing him as they still believe that Dustin's heart is still beating with the blood of the shadows. However another secret runs in his veins and it is a contract - a pact sealed with blood that will draw terrifying enemies to his doorstep.

Dustin is definitely back in this seventh book in the series. He once again seems incapable of keeping calm and knowing when one of his snarky replies is not a good idea. There were definitely a few surprises in this story and plenty of magical action - some of which was rather bloodthirsty. I loved the little bits of development in the relationship between Harald and Dustin and look forward to more development in that area in the next book. There was the introduction of a new character who joined the team in the Boneyard and I'm looking forward to more storyline featuring him too. Well written and very enjoyable.

Dezi's Diamond Dezi's Diamond by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dezi loves working for Levi's company and goes wherever the work is. However, when exclusive jewellery designer Diamond contacts the company about someone forging her work and then swapping it for the real one at the point of shipment so they can steal it, Dezi is sent to help investigate and find out who is doing this before she is professionally ruined. However, it quickly escalates into kidnapping and armed robbery. Can Dezi and Diamond figure the mystery out before it escalates to murder?

I loved this story because it was much more of a mystery story that had an attraction/romance woven into the story as it was developing. The identity of the criminal behind the plot was either easy or not depending on how you think about it (personally I had only got near to the end before I had worked it all out). Dezi and Diamond built a great relationship that definitely is good enough to withstand the tests of time. I loved that Diamond was a strong and feisty woman who knew what she wanted and how to get it. Well written and very enjoyable.

Darkling Mage: Box Set: Books 1 to 3 Darkling Mage: Box Set: Books 1 to 3 by Nazri Noor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great collection containing the first 3 books in this very enjoyable series - and a bargain to get them together at the same time. Problem is, read these and you'll have to buy the rest too!

#1 - Shadow Magic

While the gods are dying, Dustin Graves was murdered as a ritual sacrifice but finds himself the recipient of some strange dark magic instead. The more bodies start turning up - some human and worryingly one old world god. Somehow the bloodshed has to stop and it appears that Dust is now the mage for the job. However, on his journey, he ends up having encounters with a succubus, a talking sword, a spider queen and a goddess of magic. This is the first book in the Darkling Mage series.

This was a well thought out and clearly told a story that kept my attention from the start to the end of the book. The story unfolded in such a way that I was hooked on the story and actually found myself reading it faster as it progressed. It was well written and very easy to read and comprehend. As a YA book, it was nicely pitched to not push the boundaries of that genre while at the same time giving more than enough story to keep your attention and need to know what happened next. Well written it was clear and easy to understand. I think you will enjoy this story and find it easy to become addicted and need to know what happens to Dustin next.

#2 - Dark Harvest

Dustin Graves is a darkling mage and is now part of a group of scoundrels working for a rogue sorcerer and a teammate of a werewolf and a vampire. Dustin is also using a mysterious talking sword (who seems to be a bit bloodthirsty). When a doomsday cult appears and they come across 12 bodies life appears complicated enough but them an ancient god sends Dust on a lethal mission that he has to complete within 3 days or else he will die. (no pressure then!). Can he survive and complete the mission?

Wow - this book was full of action, drama, danger, betrayal, twists and turns. Throughout it had lots of great dialogue and snarky comments that made me smile. It was definitely a great example of urban fantasy and the world that the author created was very clear and easy to understand. The way the book ended definitely made me laugh - all I will say is it happens in a park and involves a finger. Well written and a delight to read - I can't wait to find out what happens to Dust next!

#3 - Darkling Mage

Someone is stealing arcane items and doing acts of violence - the problem is the person/people doing it all look just like Dustin Graves - the problem is Dust was in the hideout and was nowhere near those places. Before he knows it he is being sought by a vampire clan, the Lorica and even some of his own allies. He is also trying to find anyone who can reforge his sword (and friend) Vanitas. Can the darkling mage solve all these problems and come out the other end with his life?

This story moved along at a fast pace and there was plenty of twists, turns and action as it unfolded. Throughout it all, Dust was his usual snarky self finding a place for his very own brand of sarcasm. Well written and clear/easy to understand, this was a great third book in the series and definitely kept my attention all through the book and the events that were unfolding.

Rory has been there for a month and has the potential for a great deal of power - however, she has to learn to wield it first and that is not an immediate process considering her adversaries are doing what they can to knock her down. A couple of the scions are in the enemy grouping but there are also a couple she has a chance of counting on as they are not so clear cut now. However, when it all turns deadly can she save them all? Can Rory survive when there is treachery, passion, heartbreak and unexpected allies?

This was a great instalment in the series that had it all - passion, drama and danger. Rory is definitely getting closer to the problems that are affecting her and overcoming a lot of the grief that Malcolm and her other enemies are sending her way. I loved the way she was learning to calm down and look at some of the things thrown at her in order to get past whatever was being attempted (and I can imagine that skill helping her more in the future. Well written and a great read - I can't wait to see what happens next.

Heart of Stone Heart of Stone by Lisa Edmonds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Around 5 years ago Alice Worth escaped her grandfather Moses Murphy's cabal and started a new life as a mage/private investigator. However, now is war with local crime boss Darius Bell has pulled her into the crosshairs and threatens to destroy everything and everyone she loves including her relationship with alpha werewolf Sean Marlin. Her new case is also her most dangerous when she struggles to find a missing child with unregistered magical ability. She will encounter pack violence, Vampire Court betrayal and as all her secrets come out in the open it isn't just her personal life that is in danger but her life as well - can she make it out alive and with all her loved ones alive too?

There are a great many threads coming into play in this story as her past, present and future are all affected by the characters and events experienced in this book. Whilst everything was clear and easy to understand in this book it was very full on with some of the events happening. There was some violence in this section of Alice's story and she does very well to hold herself together, her ideas and those she loves as she reveals more of the darkness that lies within herself. Sean must love her very much given some of the things he had to put up with in this story. In the end, it sets the promise for a lot of things to happen in the next instalment of the story.

Review: Rock Her Crazy by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Rock Her Crazy Rock Her Crazy by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Harley has everything a member of a successful band could want except for a man to share her life with. Yes, she's strong but she really would prefer it if a man was to pin her against a wall and kiss her senseless! Jared Roberts isn't a submissive guy but even though he looks like he could kiss me senseless he doesn't like me so it is a moot point. However, that perspective changes when he is assigned to her personal security and he becomes her go to fantasy guy. Bizarrely it seems she is not the only one waking up aching with need. However, Harley has a stalker who needs to be handled first before they can start anything between them - surely he could protect her easier if they were closer to each other??

This was one hell of a climax to the series with Harley's stalker situation coming to a messy end as well as her private life being sorted out. Jared really did deserve the chance to be happy with Harley as he has so much integrity and honour in the way he behaved. There were many surprises around Harley's family and the stalker scenario which completely mislead me until the end when it was revealed who it was. I enjoyed the story with was well told and easy to understand. I was thrilled that Harley found the right guy for her and had some overdue happiness. A great read.
