I loved this series and hoped that Nick would find happiness in some place. It crackled with desperation, systemic tension, and a fierce longing for freedom.it was a great example of an intense, final stand wrapped in noir grit and personal reckoning. Everything was clear and easy to feel and empathise with. A lot of action, danger and drama.

I loved this story due to the clever weaving of multiple storylines and the build up to the ending which was a complete surprise. Plenty of emotions and feelings from the characters as more became clear as the story progressed. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Vampire Nick had been taken into a shadow world but now after 200 years, he wants to return home to his usual time and place where he belongs. However, he won't go alone as he has a new family in this version of New York and so he needs his mate Wynter James plus the two orphan seers. There is a vampire dark stranger who also wants to take Nick's life and family from him as he mistakenly believes that Nick stole it all from him by taking them all through the portal and leaving Nick behind on his own. The other cops are sceptical that the other stranger exists and they blame Nick for being him instead as he leaves corpses all over town - Nick needs to catch the real killer soon before he ends up in prison and then loses his family forever.

I loved this story with the mysterious stranger who convinces everyone that he is Nick and how the confrontations between them occur. It took all of his friends and resources in order to prove that he was innocent and to finally have some freedom back. I was relieved when he was finally free and able to try to resolve the situation. Full of danger and drama this was a complicated plot with many strings which all had to come together at the same time in order to get the resolution that he wanted. An emotional story where there were times when I almost forgot to breathe because I was so invested in the characters. A great ending for Nick and a great new beginning for the others. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

The Dreng are well aware of his weaknesses - will he have to choose between his child or his race and can he rescue his child from the Dreng or will he have to kill her to save her from becoming their slave?

WOW – there was so much drama and danger in this book after the events in the previous one it felt like a roller-coaster at times. I felt so desperately SAD for Revik as events unfolded that I just wanted to give him a huge hug while at the same time I either felt like crying or wanting to kick some serious butt. There were a lot of descriptions of thoughts and emotions in this book and they were so powerful, clear and easy to understand I felt as if I was there living it with them. I can't wait for the next instalment now.

Allie returns to New York as everything moves towards the apocalypse. The disease from Shadow is everywhere, there are earthquakes, storms, and chaos ensues (with pockets in military lockdown protecting the wealthy). Revik is acting strange and Dirini of the Lao Hu tells Allie that Shadow is coming for her but he brings War the fourth intermediary (and final member) who is going to help him end the human race) and the Bridge with it),

Wow! There were more strands of story and twists/turns than at times I felt I could cope with BUT even saying, that I kept reading as fast as I could as I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next. There are moments between Allie and Revik and even Wreg and Jon that were significant plus dare I say it but sometimes I wanted to shake them all and tell them to stop being an idiot! Cass has a major role in the story this time which made me quite sad and sorry for her (although I am SO mad as hell at her too). The ending of the story is very dramatic and so very sad too. You might need to have some chocolate or wine for this time. I cannot wait for the next story now as I NEED to know what happens next. Please make it far happier for them all!

Please note this is a great book but it will make much more sense if you have read the books before it in the series and you need to be comfortable with M/M and M/F sex.

Allie and Revik have set up a camp with their alliance members within a hotel in New York. Then a mystery virus that only kills humans hits San Francisco and at the same time, some key loved ones start disappearing. Add to that the fact that the Lao Hu is constantly attacking the alliance and Shadow is still lurking out there, life is not simple for both Allie and Revik as they are forced to now find ways to work together effectively. They then find a list of humans that are marked as important in the Displacement so Jon sets to work with Wreg to find them and bring them into the protection of the hotel whilst training them. There is also a seer wedding ceremony, a confrontation with an enemy from the Lao Hu and an important meeting at the end of the book with major implications.

WOW - a busy book with a lot of activity and progress in a lot of areas. It was a hard book to make any assumptions as there were a great number of twists, turns and even disguises used so that you could often not all it until an event was complete. The seer wedding was wonderful and I seriously need some of that cake! There were definitely a number of intimate moments that were sensitively written and showed a lot of love between some of the characters. After so much action, what is going to happen next? An easy-to-read book that had me hooked from the start to the finish. Contains an M/M relationship that readers need to be aware of.

Now that the Sword has disappeared Allie becomes despised by free seers in the western and eastern world as he saved so many of them. There are contracts on her life from all sorts of people. She is actually hiding underground with Revik trying desperately to save him and break him free of the Dreng and their control of him. However, when freed he becomes more like a feral animal and she needs to learn much more about his colourful past plus try to get back the trust that she damaged in her actions to get him free. Then something called the "Shadow" starts to rise with their army of ancient seers and what appears to be the darkest of agendas.

OMG, this was a book where we found out much more about Revik and his past (although definitely not everything). So much happened - there were twists, turns, advanced politics, drama, and a most bizarre period where Allie works off a debt. I supposed a great way of summarising it would be exquisite torture. When I read one significant turning point I was heartbroken and I will admit to crying with despair at the stupidity of two people who love each other as much as these two. Great book, well written and building up to more epic adventures and events in the next book in the series. I can't wait as I NEED to know what happens next. Will everything turn out ok or will they continue to torture each other? The writing was clear and easy to read and the plot twists (even the complicated ones) were easy to understand. I definitely felt the thoughts and emotions at times hence my tears. I definitely needed chocolate and tissues to hand.

Allie is all alone after the loss of her husband and then finds herself thrust into the role of the official face and voice of the seers. She then desperately tries to stop the two worlds that she straddles from an all-consuming war. Then she discovers that Revik is not dead as she thought but instead is on the other side of the seer race and is already fighting the war against humans. There is no way she can compromise with him on this, but she has to do whatever it takes to save him from himself and everyone she loves (including him) even if she has to do some things that are totally out of character. Will he ever forgive her?

There were a great many twists and turns in this book, including some plots that were a complete surprise. There were a great many politics involved which was a total minefield (and may bite folks later). I was definitely living the thoughts and emotions of the characters which meant I was just as surprised as they were when certain events happened. The next book is going to start a major rollercoaster given the way this book ended. Contains some mature content.

Allie is still trying to get used to the concept that she is now a being called "The Bridge" and all that it entails. Plus she is also trying to work out the rules around the culture of being a Seer and how that affects her relationship with Revik - the problem is no one will tell her the rules so she gets it wrong and into serious trouble. Will she and Revik ever get the chance to complete their marriage? Then it appears that the Rook she helped get into the White House in the US is now gunning for a war with China - could it be the start of the displacement? Then a mysterious child appears that could be Syrinne but confusingly he should be more like 100 years old and not a child. Then he announces that Allie belongs to him and is his wife!

OMG, there were so many things that happened in this book, some of which were new and some of which was a continuation or conclusion of events that occurred in the previous book. The serious trouble she found herself in was quite shocking and not something that I would imagine being a feature of seer society. There were a lot of twists and turns that if you stuck with them it all became a little clearer. There were definitely times of joy and happiness that Allie and Revik definitely needed, but then everything went to chaos and by the end of the story I was heartbroken for them and can only hope that everything gets resolved in the next book in the series. The book was well written and I could definitely feel the emotions and experiences the characters were going through. Contains some mature content.

Human Allie has always distanced herself from the Seers on the planet when a series of events occur that transports her from her everyday life to being on the run from both her own government and a group of Seers called Rooks with a hot Seer named Revik. As part of that, she learns that Seers are not anything like she had previously been told, that the world is also different from what she had been led to understand, and that her origins may not be as human as both she and everyone else thinks. Then her family get dragged into the war between different Seer factions and everything gets very personal - can Allie stop it and save her loved ones?

I adored this story. It had lots of drama, suspense and just so many twists, turns and surprises in the story. You could empathise with Allie and what was happening to her even if you didn't understand why she couldn't commit at times (which I have to say was just SO annoying). Revik was a complex character with plenty of demons from his past, but at the end of the day, he was also adorable and certainly, I'd like to order him for my birthday! It was well written and everything was clear and easy to understand. Contains some mature content.

It's strange for him to go back to his hometown and now he is a celebrity he can't go anywhere without fans getting exciting and mobbing him. Can he cope with the unsettling memories that are now starting to cope back at him? It starts to go wrong from the start as he gets accosted by a strange vampire who has memories of Nick that make no sense at all. Then when Nick tries to investigate what he was told it just gets even more strange as missing memories and long-ago wars, friends and family long dead start to assail him. When the NYPD contact him asking him to stay a little longer to solve a murder case for them that happened in Manhattan it seems to merge into Nick's past and then both things feel connected in some way. Things also might be trying to kill him and when Wynter shows up they are trying to kill her soon. Can they survive this and solve the murder case?

Wow. This blew my mind to the point that I had to sit and process it as so many things happened to Nick that were connected in some subtle ways as well as a few obvious ones. I won't give any spoilers but the bonus epilogue solidified and confirmed several conclusions that I had already come to. As always, the author has woven multiple storylines and unknowns together in order to craft something very enjoyable. Now I'm anticipating and waiting patiently to find out what happens next in the next book in the series. Very easy to read, understand and feel. If I wasn't already addicted to this series I definitely am now.

The victim is a wealthy venture capitalist and was soon to become Cal's brother-in-law. He has disappeared just before his 40th birthday. Black was holed up in Santa Fe with his wife Miri waiting for another friend recovering from a near-fatal injury and so with time to kill he agrees to take on the case. But nothing is how it seems - especially when the main suspect takes out Black and Miri destroying a building in the process. It sets off a chain of events that could have significance for the entire world, plus an old enemy is waiting to take advantage of the situation and to get his revenge on Miri and Black. Killing them might be his final act before he remakes the world in his own twisted image - only this time he will have the creation#s two most powerful beings at his side.

Wow. I had to sit for some time before my head was clear enough in order to write a review of this book. There were a lot of fast-moving changes that had a really major significance on the world as well as Black and Miri themselves. I loved the multiple layers and the way that they were seamlessly woven into a cohesive story. The local police in San Jose and her knowledge as well as acceptance of certain situations - I really hope she comes to work for Black's company. The changes that happened in this story were unexpected and I certainly didn't see some of them coming. It was nice to see the vampire involvement, as well as Miri's sister Zoe, being central to some of the story - I really hope the relationship between the sisters is repaired in some way. A lot happened. and I'm sure some of this will set the way for the next book in the series. The epilogue via the link at the end was good as well. Well written, easy to read and understand. You need to have read the previous books in the series before this read this book.

This is a great collection of the first three books in the Vampire Detective Midnight series by JC Andrijeski. In it we read about the adventures of Naoko "Nick" Tanaka is a vampire homicide detective recently transferred to the NYPD where he works in the employ of the human police. Individual book reviews follow:

#1 - Vampire Detective Midnight - 5*

Naoko "Nick" Tanaka is a vampire homicide detective recently transferred to the NYPD where he works in the employ of the human police. Described as a "Midnight" he gets his food delivered to the government housing he lives in. His wish is to be left alone and be able to work in peace but after just two weeks it all goes sideways when paintings start to appear on the street predicting murders with great accuracy before they happen. He becomes embroiled in the artist, dead hybrid-humans, a school principal who unsettles him and a conspiracy involving a very prominent and rich New York family. As he gets sucked into it all further will he survive or get re-programmed?

I absolutely loved this brand new series from this author which had a lot of grit, determination, drama, danger and raw emotions from the characters. I can't wait to find out what happens to Nick next and see where the stories take him. You can tell from the way he behaved in this story that he is going to be right there in the thick of anything happening in the future. Well written this was really enjoyable and I think would appeal to those who have enjoyed the Bridge and Sword series as well as new readers to the author.

#2 - Eyes of Ice - 5*

Nick is pulled into the world of underground boxing to help solve a case where they drain vampires for their blood and venom before extracting their hearts and tossing them outside of the safety of the dome. He might still be suspended but that doesn't stop him from getting involved, now he needs to reassure his girlfriend who now believes he has a death wish - especially as he does everything he can to avoid talking to her about whatever it is that is happening between them. Can Nick survive the ring and can he keep his relationship at arm's length?

This was a very dramatic instalment of the series with sections of graphic violence and sexual content in places. In this book we see Nick doing what he does best - going all in trying to find out who is behind the vampire harvesting/killing even if it puts himself in mortal danger. He also sticks true to form and doesn't handle relationships very well which was maddening to the point I could have throttled him at times!! Well written and easy to understand the thoughts and emotions that the characters were experiencing (even if I didn't always agree with them). If I had the chance to give Nick a message through the pages, it would be to stop being a dick and see what he has. Definitely recommended.

#3 - The Prescient - 5*

Vampire detective Nick associates with a few seers currently in his life including one who might come across as antisocial but has a talent for painting things before they happen (even though he only knows to paint it and not what it means). The latest one is of a bomb doing off in downtown New York however by the time Nick sees it, it is too late. With no leads apart from the painting, a murdered human who is the partner of eccentric vampire Straven (star designer and architect) he has little to go on. Soon it is apparent that a robbery gone wrong is not the right conclusion to make as it is something far more sinister with very far-reaching consequences. As part of the investigation, Nick will have to go too close to a life he thought he had left behind and he will see his ex-girlfriend with a new vampire boyfriend in a hip vampire club which sends Nick almost over the edge. Can Nick solve the case, work things out with Wynter and survive all the obstacles thrown at him?

OMG - so many surprises and intrigue for the future. I won't put any spoilers in here, but I'm relieved how some of this story went although there are some worries for the future there too. Keeping my fingers crossed for the characters in the future. I loved the detailed way that elements of the story were slowly peeled back (like layers in an onion) and the relationships that were built for the future between Nick and the humans he works with within the police. I loved what happened between Nick and Wynter (sorry can't say more). Well written and very easy to understand and feel, I'm wondering what is going to happen next in this very detailed world in the mind of the author. I just know it's going to be great.

In the previous book of the series, Dags Jourdain learned a great deal of the truth of who and what he is - and it pretty much has broken him while he works through what it means. He can now see himself, his life and even his relationships as being damned and the thought of doing or inflicting that on others is making his stomach churn. And so he has run away to think about it and protect everyone who he loves or could destroy. He just cannot be what his dark brother Uri wants him to be and cannot accept that he has to be that way as it is fate - Dags just cannot find any joy in being the evilest thing in existence. Then school friend Kara Mossman calls needing his help and he just can't turn her down and so finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation where the prime suspect is a ten-year-old kid. The deaths seem to be savage, motiveless and have the marks of being something supernatural. So Dags rejoins the normal world and faces the truth that he had been avoiding including the fallout from everyone he left behind - especially from his movie start girlfriend Phoenix X who really hasn't dealt with his vanishing act well at all. Can he save the boy, solve the murder case, handle brother Uri, work on who/what he is AND makeup with Phoenix?

Wow - this was definitely an action-packed story that involved a lot of information about Dags and his identity woven around the story of the boy who committed the murders and the supernatural beings who were the instigators of those murders. I loved the way that Dags was able to find out more about who and what he is as well as his reaction to that knowledge. Phoenix's reaction to his return was quite amusing and it definitely made me laugh at his punishment - he really does need some kind of relationship guidance in the next book because he really does push his luck! What happened at the end was just great - my husband thinks I'm mad after the whoop I gave when I read that section lol I'm intrigued as to where he is going to go now, what he will do with this new knowledge and if there will be any comeback after his actions. I also really hope that he follows through on all his promises to Phoenix. Well written, easy to read and understand. Completely addictive.

They have now returned to Los Angeles and Alexis knows that they are running out of time and although she thought she had saved her friends and her world from the dark beings known as The Others it seems that they have been here all of the time and their dark magic is now fighting a battle for the soul of her world. Everyone believes she is the one to save them but he needs to conquer her own demons, weaknesses and fears first and get back to what it truly means to be a Lightbringer. She also needs to find a cure for a mystery spell that knocked out more than half of her allies. With the help of a Hollywood fire angel, the angel's grumpy and deadly boyfriend, a coven of witches, a werewolf pack, a necromancer and even the woman who raised her, Alexis has just the one shot left to keep evil from her world's future, save her husband, her friends and family. To accept all of that help she is going to have to learn to do the one thing she seems incapable of doing - trust people.

Wow - this was fast-paced, full of action and pulled lots of different characters together into one explosive finish to this series. All the way through this book I was happy to see various characters appear or various revelations happen. All the way through Cal was supportive to Alexis and did his best to help her in any way that he could. The person behind the mystery spell was a great surprise and in the end, it was easy to fix the problem when it was fully understood. Whilst I am sad that the series is now finished I'm sure they will probably appear in other series by this author and I was thrilled that there was such a happy ending. It was easy to understand and read although you need t have read the previous three books in the series. Contains some sexual content.

Alexis is the last Lightbringer and in closing the gate in order to save her world and her friends she used up all her magic and has no way to reopen it. Yet somehow as a normal person, she needs to before the world is plunged forever into darkness. Now everything she thought she had won appears to be lost as she can't even create a basic finder spell so how can she rescue them and stop the Red Dragon from reopening the portal using some kind of dark magic? It does appear that Alexis is the last person who can save any of them. Now she is a regular person who has to somehow hold back the worst darkness this world has ever known. 

 OMG - I absolutely loved this book. So many revelations, so much new information, links to other books (no I'm not going to give you details - you'll have to read it yourself!). Even with her lack of magic Alexis try to be in control and organise everyone and everything. The relationship between Alexis and Cal seemed to be a bit closer even though there was nothing physical - just mental connections. Well written, easy to read and understand and plenty of scope for you to draw your own conclusions and think which way it could go - I didn't see some of them so prepare to be surprised. Definitely addictive. You will need to have read the previous books in this series first.

Now that Black's identity is no longer secret he is both feared and admired by the various defence contractors and military groups around the world. His own government is breathing down his neck and the seers want him dead for exposing their race to the humans. We can't forget Miri's uncle Charles' seers who all want the vampires dead and humans their slaves. Miri is not thrilled at being given this utter mess and throwing her in front of the media, assassins and in the sights of her Uncle Charle' organisation. Not everyone on the human side of the equation is happy at losing their status as the dominant species and will anything to stop that happening - including wiping out everything living on Earth!

Buckle up - there is a lot happening in this book which was well worth the wait from the previous one in the series. Black was his usual protective alpha male self with a touch of recklessness mixed in, Miri did everything to deal with negotiation between the groups and find a way forward while also coping with Black and his occasional off-plan actions that she sometimes had to rescue him from, while in the middle of all that they still have their wedding outstanding. Charles also proved once again that he deserves the Lucky moniker and both he and his group create some aggravation for both Miri and Black. I loved the conversations with Jem, Nick and the events that happened at the Sunday lunch which was pretty funny and a good insight into more of Nick's personality and their relationship. As for what happened with Dex, wow I'd hate to be the person to make him really angry (even if I think his actions were over the top and completely unnecessary). I sure hope the new character we meet in this story has a role to play in the next book (and maybe be on the right side this time). Well written as always, easy to read and understand and very easy to feel and empathise with the thoughts and emotions of the characters (even if I might not always agree with them). So much happens at times that I recommend going back and re-reading some of it to make sure that you really understood. You need to have read the previous books in the series in order to understand how they got to where they are today. Highly recommended.

Alexis is trapped in another dimension by a magical being and she soon realises he wants her to help him to destroy entire worlds – a bit like a living key to passing through the portals allowing them to be opened up to corruption by The Others. Whilst it is not clear what these Others want, they appear to enslave planets and bend entire cultures and histories to their own ends. He appears to have his own agenda – one that she needs to discover if she has any hope to escape and stop The Others from imposing darkness on all worlds which will go against everything that her mother brought her up to protect from. He is called the White Dragon, he is a king, a usurper and a radical who insists that Alexis is his mate.

After the dramatic ending to the previous book, Lexi finds herself in a tricky situation where there seems to be no possible way out. As she tries her best to sort through all of the information she is told (and not told) together with what she can believe and what not to believe she has to learn to think even quicker on her feet. At the latter stages of this book, there were some pretty major revelations that are definitely going to be significant in the next story. Well written, this was easy to read and understand. The plot was complex with many levels which became even more difficult as more was revealed during the progression of this book. I have so many questions which I hope will be answered in the next book about the Red Dragon, his direct relation to certain characters in this story and how that might affect things going forward. Alexis is what is known as a Lightbringer - she protects the portals that connect the worlds to keep them safe from dark beings like Gods, Demons, Vampires or any other interdimensional being. Either way, her job is to protect the portal on Earth in order to protect the population of the planet. However, something has gone dreadfully wrong and someone is murdering the Lightbringers and she appears to be the last one standing. Traveller Cal arrives to protect her as his race have traditionally protected and spied for the Lightbringers in the past. But they are tired of observing just from the sidelines and Cal is not an ordinary Traveller. Can they protect the portal on Earth and therefore the integrity of the system?

OMG, this was a story with lots of twists and turns as we learnt more about the threat facing Alexis and what it means to be a Lightbringer. I loved the details we learnt about all the characters which helped to paint a picture of what they were like and what they did. I'm intrigued by all of the main players in this story and have all sorts of ideas in my head as to how important or significant they will be going forward. There is one hell of a twist at the end of the book that will both surprise and horrify you. Well written, it was clear and easy to understand the story and pick up the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Contains explicit sexual content. How am I going to wait to find out what happens next?

Angel Dags has stolen his friend's wife Jade away to protect her from him as he believes Uri is Lucifer and that he is trying to awaken her to join him. But he is no longer alone as school friend Kara is an LAPD homicide detective, there is a house full of people and his girlfriend Phoenix X who is a movie star and awakening angel who cannot control her powers properly yet - all who need to be protected from demons.

This was certainly an action-packed instalment of the series as Dags had crisis after crisis to handle as well as the constant drip feel of information and sometimes misinformation and trying to work out what was real, what was true, what was a lie, and more importantly what was significant. Throughout it all, he discovered more and more about what and who he was as well as what and who Uri his schoolfriend was too. Well written and full of action and revelations, this was very addictive and I just could not put it down. It was easy to read and understand but you do need to keep up with the pace of the revelations and discoveries. There is one hell of a revelation at the end of this book which just fused my mind for a while so prepare to sit a think about this for a while when you finish it. I really can't wait to find out what happens next - this author really is very clever at her art.
