Review: Jax by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Jax Jax by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ex-SEAL Jax Darrium had helped Griffin in the second book in this series and now he gets his own mission with Griffin on communications and another ex-SEAL called Beau. This time he needs to travel to Florida and rescue Dr Abigail Dalton from a cruise ship which has been taken over by pirates with the intention to capture her as she is a specialist in cell stem treatment of cancer and take her to Dubai to treat the son of a wealthy Saudi Arabian who is believed to have stomach cancer (according to his American doctor). Using scuba gear they swim to the ship and board so they can start taking out any of the pirates they fin as well as search for Abby. When they find her it turns out that the American doctor is a stalker of Abby and there is doubt n her mind over the diagnosis and believes it is his way to capturing her. When Abby discovers the need to cure a child she insists of treating him and so a neutral location of London is chosen with the hopes that Jax, Beau and MI6 can all work together to keep her safe. Can she cure the child and be kept safe or will she fall into the hands of her stalker?

This was a great story pitting the wits of the medical profession, a sassy and determined woman and a determined black-ops team against a skilled psychopathic conman. I loved the butting of heads that was constantly in place between Abby and Jax as well as his determination to compromise whilst keeping her safe. A very convoluted story with lots of drama as it unfolded. A great and addictive read that I couldn't put down. Contains some sexual content at the end of the story.

Review: Griffin by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Griffin Griffin by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ex-SEAL Griffin Thomas had assisted Kerrick in the previous book in this series and is now going on his own black-ops mission with Kerrick only doing communications he wonders who will support him especially when he discovers he needs to rescue 11-year old Amelia Rose who is the daughter of newspaper mogul Gerard Whitaker together with her nurse Mary and tutor Lorelei James who have all been kidnapped during a family holiday in Thailand. He is allocated another former SEAL Jax and so they leave to try and get there to rescue them as soon as they can - not realising that when they get there they will find one of the three is dead, one is a mature mixture of a child and woman, and one just captivates him. Can they get there in time, and can they unpick who in the family is behind the entire plot?

This was a great story with both strong men and strong women who managed to work together to get everyone safe as well as work out the responsibilities for all the various actions. It was nice to read a story with a mixture of ages of the various players in the complicated plot behind the kidnap. I loved the developing relationship between Griffin and Lorelei and how it seemed to build slowly from victim and hero into something more respectful and equal. Well written, enjoyable and easy to read it was addictive all the way through. Contains some sexual content at the end.

Review: Sixx by Cara Bristol 4 of 5 stars

Sixx Sixx by Cara Bristol
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Software developer Moxie Maguire dreams of writing and releasing her own video game. So she is saving money as fast as she can to set up her own company while working for an ex and obnoxious boss Miles putting in 14 hour days most of the time. She also dreams of having a partner that is Mr Right and has her six - so she signs up to the Intergalactic Dating Agency. Her first date is with an alien from Dakon called Sixx - an horned alien who is mega sexy, supportive and family orientated - the perfect partner for her - with just one issue - he has to stay on his home planet due to having a son that he cannot permanently leave. There is just one computer on Dakon so their growing relationship suddenly seems futile when it becomes obvious that she cannot give up her dreams and he cannot give up his child. Is there anything that can be done for these Fated Mates to be together?

This was a sweet story that highlighted what is probably a very modern dilemma in modern lives - how can a career be maintained as well as a normal relationship and can both parties a workable compromise that fits all members? Thankfully this story had a great compromise. I loved the way Sixx was so supportive of her and did his best to protect her, and how Miles turned out to be far less of an ass than he appeared through most of the book. An easy to read story that was as enjoyable as it was easy to understand.

Review: Kerrick by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Kerrick Kerrick by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When SEALs get sick of following rules because they hold them back from doing the right thing they either accept it or walk away. However, for a select few there is an alternative - they can join The Mavericks - a covert black ops team that gets the job done (even if they have to break the occasional rule on the way). Widower Kerrick Cassidy is one of those men who are chosen - and his mission is to find and save cancer research scientist Dr Amanda Berg, who has disappeared off the street outside her Paris lab. Can he find her and bring her safely home?

This was a sweet and yet dramatic story of a strong man who does whatever he can to save this strong woman who is not going to be kept a prisoner and stop in her aim to cure breast cancer in the memory of her best friend. There was a lot of twists and turns as they both worked together as a team in order to find out who was behind her kidnap and imprisonment as well as their motivation. Well written and very enjoyable.

Review: Black Of Hearts: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance by JC Andrijeski 5 of 5 stars

Black Of Hearts: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance Black Of Hearts: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance by JC Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Miri and Black are back to their own version of Earth and have to face the growing race war with very dark implications. He knows that Miri will be targeted by both sides of the conflict when they realise what her new powers are really capable of but in the meantime, it appears that Nick is still missing, they are assuming that Dalejem is dead, the vampire race is preparing for an all-out war, riots are raging in the human population and Miri's seer uncle is still aiming to take over the planet and is locking down the country. Then Black feels it - he is caught and Miri is caught too. When he realises that the separation pain and panic will be enough for him to lose his cool - something they are going to regret. The question is can they find each other and can Miri calm him back down?

OMG - so many interesting events happened in this story that involved all of the races, Black, Miri, Nick and Dalejem in particular. The problem with such a book like this is you can't put it down, you need time to catch up in your mind to all the events as they happened, and you just have a NEED to know what is going to happen next - especially as it felt that it ended on a cliffhanger. Well written and clear/easy to understand, this book was a joy to read and the book pushed the Quentin Black story in an interesting direction that I'm looking forward to reading in the future.

Review: Ice's Icing by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Ice's Icing Ice's Icing by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ice has only ever wanted Levi and maybe someone who is a blend of them both, and although he asked her to marry him a while ago but she is struggling to pin down a date for the wedding worried he was caught up in the moment at the mass wedding for Badger's crew and didn't really mean it. So when their compound is under attack and they have to go on the offence she has a chance to realise what is really important in life. Levi has only ever wanted Ice and is getting infuriated that she won't set the date so they can start their life together. So when they are under attack by a military group trying to overthrow a government that had helped in the past and body counts increase, the intensity between them changes - is this time to eat your cake and have the icing too?

I loved this story which was full of kindness and taking initiative by people that both Levi and Ice did not expect to have to deal with. It was great to experience them both finally taking the next step and it was definitely a tear-jerker so only read this with a box of tissues nearby. Well written and very enjoyable. A must for anyone who has read other books n the series although I think you could read it without reading any others.

Review: From the Ashes by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

From the Ashes From the Ashes by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Phoenix Rising was born and raised in a cult lead by her fanatical father who believed she was destined for greater things. However, she endured a childhood full of physical pain and both physical and mental torment and not only his hands but all the other cult members. It appears that he was convinced he was preparing her for the future he was convinced she would fulfil and at the same time was punishing her for being stronger and better than he was. Can she fight against the destiny he has prepared her for and protect all her she is close to as she experiences physic life at an extreme level during a visit to Iceland?

I loved this story which was a great mixture of psychic action, a mystery and a thriller. I loved the relationship between Phoenix and the other characters in the story that seemed to be all helping her in one way or another. A very addictive story that I could not put down until I had finished it.

Review: Death and Christmas by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Death and Christmas Death and Christmas by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Angel of Death went to get a tattoo on Christmas Eve before heading to the hospital in his Santa suit to see a load of sick kids (who have no idea who he really is) and it was all quite normal until the Fates played their trick on him and cause him to meet his soulmate (he had never taken it seriously that they existed and certainly not one for him). The complication is that Cataria is no longer in the realm of the living, however, she is so feisty and able to stand up to him that it almost doesn't matter.
Can he handle all of the problems that are around this situation and will they get a HEA?

OMG - this was so good and so very addictive (I think I read it in one sitting and ignore everything and everyone until I had finished it. Cat was one hell of a woman and I can only hope that they meet again at some point in time and can have a chance at the HEA that they richly deserve (and that Michael gets his just deserts and much more - if I could I would have throttled him myself!). Well written and very enjoyable it was easy to read and understand.

Review: Amidst Alien Stars {Milijun Book 2} by Clayton Graham 4 of 5 stars

Amidst Alien Stars {Milijun Book 2} Amidst Alien Stars {Milijun Book 2} by Clayton Graham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laura Sinclair and her son Jason, plus a group of desperate humans abducted from Earth in the previous book awake among the alien stars somewhere else where they are trying to forge a new future both for themselves but also for those back home on Earth. However, they are not with the one alien race and so have to solve the riddle of the group of races they are encountering and try not to become embroiled in their historic conflict that seems to be as valid now as it was many years before. The problem is who should they trust (if anyone) and what is the real plan for the hybrid children that have been brought into existence? Add to that there is a constant worry in the back of their minds - will they ever see Earth again and get home?

This is once again a complex story with many layers for you to dig through as you read this second book in the series - although you could get away with not reading the first one I really do think you need to read the first one to make sense of the events in this book as early as you can. I enjoyed the way they were sometimes working independently but were always working towards a common goal that would make sense of what was happening to them all. I enjoyed the mini-stories within stories that were very enjoyable. Well written it was very clear and easy to understand.

Festive Love Festive Love by Maggie Mundy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jaxon Connor almost lost his far and his father is currently sick in hospital so he really does not need a nosey journalist poking around the family. Even worse at a recent fair, he had a wild night of passion with the journalist Kathryn and she completely got under his skin and he seems unable to forget her. Kathryn desperately needs a successful article or she is going to lose her job so really does need to know much more about Jax and his family - the problem is can she keep her growing feelings for him and the entire family from doing her own job and what will it do to their burgeoning relationship?

This is a really sweet festive story featuring the Connor cousins down in Australia which is a great way of getting to know them too. It certainly had a sweet story in the middle of it which was a great love story on its own without the modern-day love story that was woven around it too. Well written and very enjoyable, it had moments of drama as well we tenderness as events unfolded. An enjoyable festive read. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Rekindled Love Rekindled Love by Maggie Mundy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After messing up relationships at an early age Brett Connor is all for partying hard and making sure he never falls in love with any of his many conquests. Mila DeMarco is a hard-working chef who has to come back to her childhood home as her mother is sick. She also has a past with Brett. Can Brett start to believe in love again as he falls for Mila or will he mess it up in order to stay in his wild ways?

This was a lovely story which will definitely pull at your heartstrings and make you believe that Brett really is a human and not a man-whore when he finds something out about the past that will rock his world completely. I can't say more else I will ruin the story, just know that it is easy to become addicted to this story as you go on the same journey as Brett to fill in gaps in his knowledge and find out what is truly important in life to him. Definitely emotional in places and will leave you with a warm glow at the end. Contains some explicit sexual content. Iatee is the Punishment Spirit and being punished having a life as a stuffed teddy bear because the Gods are not into his brand of powerful punishment anymore and so he needs to learn how to stop being that way. All he has to do is make one child love him and he’ll live again. His dreams are shattered when he’s gifted to a child as payment for a vile act. Can he make her love him and save her from the horror of her life without sacrificing his freedom?

This is a clever little story where we experience his frustration at his current fate and the events he discovers and witnesses going forward. It really doesn't agree with the Gods view on life now, but I think I would have done exactly the same as Iatee. A well-written and clever story.

Review: Parker by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Parker Parker by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this series, it starts with a mission to locate a missing war dog and expands as we experience the difficulties of actually locating and rescuing it. In this one, do Samson went missing in Iraq he was waiting to be shipped home for his retirement. Parker and Sandy are travelling to Iraq in order to escort home the body of their respective brothers who have recently been killed in action, so it makes sense for Parker to be the one asked to locate the latest missing dog. However, as they start to investigate the missing dog, the answers are very cagey and then the drama starts with dead bodies turning up. This quickly morphs into a mystery thriller as the plot gets thicker in the search for the missing dog. Parker and Sandy have to work together in order to stay safe as well as locate Samson, and in doing that they come to realise that they have a much deeper connection that needs to be explored fully when they find the dog and return to US soil. Well written and full of drama, twists and turns it was like being in a complicated murder mystery as they worked together.

The Business of Bees The Business of Bees by Chrys Cymri
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

C of E vicar Penny White has known about the magical country of Lloegyr for 18 months now and yet in many ways, it feels like years. he has become used to living alongside dragons, gryphons, werewolves, and a snail shark (to mention just a few) which has turned out to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it has been an absolute joy with many memorable moments to cherish, but on the other, it has been a major challenge, plus since the closing of the thin spaces between the worlds she is stuck there with no way to communicate back home. She had hoped that her friends would understand that the occasional glass of red wine or tot of whiskey were all part of her coping with the multitude of events in her life including her work with the not-weres at Saint Raphael’s which while rewarding play havoc with her stomach. Then she has a decision to make - stick with longtime friend dragon Raven or accept the marriage proposal from werewolf Llewellyn back at Saint Raphael’s. Decisions have to be made when she receives a delegation of gryphons who have flown across the Atlantic from the Daear equivalent of the United States of America to ask for her help in convincing honey bees to return back to Earth. Can she handle all of this and not touch a drop of drink let alone will she succeed with this new mission?

I really enjoyed this story which contained plenty of soul searching and analysis of others as well as herself on top of some action as part of the story. Throughout it all, Penny while struggling with her own dilemmas, managed to do her best to find a peaceful solution to the problems that she was drawn into through no fault of her own. Whilst it might on the face of it strike you as a story with a strong a religious angle, it is still a very enjoyable read as the common themes of love, respect and seeking joy in everything that affects you. I loved the way her relationships with the core characters in the series developed further and I was totally thrilled with the events at the end of the story - I just hope that the Bishop doesn't ruin things. Well written and very enjoyable, it is much easier to read this if you have read the earlier books in the series (which I recommend as great reads).

The Royal Treatment The Royal Treatment by Erin Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Prince Ferdinand knew he wasn't important in the line of succession and was fine with that. When he met diplomat's daughter Alexandra Daae who was destined to marry his cousin, it was him she fell for and they were all ready to break all the rules for love when tragedy struck and the future they had dreamed of was shattered. He is still not over it even 15 years later when his younger brother has a baby with his partner and he just has to leave Dubreva for a while to deal with the heartache. Miraculously he spots Alexandra there and everything starts to change for the better. Can fate finally b on their side?

This was a sweet story and on the face of it was very enjoyable, but the merging of the past and the present in the same chapter of the book became a little irritating in the end. So I enjoyed the story but then I also didn't enjoy some aspects of it which were a shame as they came to the conclusion that I knew was right (even if I hadn't really understood why certain things happened in the past). A nice story which was enjoyable if you bear in mind the shifts in the timeline.
