I loved how the investigation forced them to rely on each other — that steady build of trust, understanding, and partnership made the foundation of their relationship feel so natural and strong. The tension rose beautifully, all leading to a grand, satisfying finish with a final confrontation that tied everything together. The writing was clear and engaging, making the emotions, stakes, and twists easy to read, feel, and understand. A gripping mix of suspense and connection. This was an MF story with a little mature content at the very end.

His maturity shone through, and it clearly came from the way he was raised. The book is full of family, both real and beautifully found, and it highlights how love often grows strongest in the places where you’re truly seen and accepted. There were so many emotions and feelings throughout, and plenty of moments that made me smile. A warm, heartfelt story about care, connection, and finding the people who choose you. Errol’s ability to talk to animals added such warmth and charm, and the way the animals helped him was one of my favourite parts. I loved the Christmas atmosphere, from the lights and carols to the random Santas popping up everywhere, which added so much charm. I honestly almost stopped reading, but I didn’t want to waste the time I’d already invested. I did like the pep talks from friends, though the way everything had to be spelled out in such extreme detail felt unnecessary. Ace’s behaviour around Benji’s brother also struck me as odd and at times dismissive of Benji, which didn’t help the emotional balance of the story. There were definitely emotions and feelings throughout, but overall the middle dragged too much for me to stay fully engaged. This was an MM story with mature content.

The ending also left me confused — the men who were supposed to fix the problem simply bailed and left Rory to deal with it, with no explanation or consequences for their incompetence. Overall, a good premise with some lovely scenes, but the execution didn’t quite land for me. This was an MM story with mature content.

For me, there was no real sense of love or affection between them — just irritation on one side and indulgence on the other.
