Review: The Duke's Kiss: A Regency Novella by Monica La Porta 3 of 5 stars

The Duke's Kiss: A Regency Novella (Lords and Ladies of London)

The Duke's Kiss: A Regency Novella by Monica La Porta
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Duke of Chilham is visiting his twin sister but unbeknownst to him she is also matchmaking and he finds the woman did ever wanted or expected to see again - Lady Flora. When they were young she was his friend and they both expected to marry - then something happened and it all fell apart. First, his sister and second the weather forces them together, will they hate each other more or will they work it all out and finally give their love the second chance it deserves?

This was a sweet novella that showed that second chances at love happen even in Recency times. It was easy to read and understand. The change from enemies to lovers was a bit abrupt for me but I suppose at least it also prolonged the agony. I was thrilled when they managed to work it out.

Review: Bound by Water by Monica La Porta 4 of 5 stars

Bound by Water: Pisces Bound by Water by Monica La Porta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Atreides is a famous painter and the only merman shifter alive. He also helps the police to recover stolen art from the many contacts he has within Rome. Ariel is a strong-willed human art thief who has sworn never to steal again when she is forced to do just one more job to repay a debt owed by her late father by stealing an Etruscan artefact. When they meet he is not looking for anything permanent, but a passionate kiss under the full moon is enough to intertwine their fates. Can they escape the werewolf biker gang after Arial and have a chance at a future?

This is a really sweet story with a few surprises as the story developed and they became more and more involved with each other. The story was well told and everything was clear and easy to understand. Very enjoyable and I definitely swept away into the drama that was unfolding and rooting for them to be happy together going forward. A very enjoyable read.

The last thing she wants to have to cope with is a domineering and handsome billionaire who thinks he can do what he wants because he is rich and so she is determined not to go down without a fight. This is a highly amusing tale with lots os hilarious happenings as Aubrey struggles to cope with a hex and her faithful dog Minu struggles to keep her calm before she accidentally destroys what all men find most dear (Mr Stuart not being an exception) which is his junk (as she describes it). Review: The Immortals - Books 7-9 by Monica La Porta 4 of 5 stars

The Immortals - Books 7-9 The Immortals - Books 7-9 by Monica La Porta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great value collection of books in The Immortals series.

#7 - The Lonely Wolf - 4*

Ludwig is an Archangel and Quintilius is an Alpha werewolf. They have been in love for over 2000 years but as they are from rival special they are stuck in a forbidden love, made so much worse when Ludwig chooses his career/duty over love. Lupo is a young werewolf who is full of anger and frustration striving to get a position in the Reds street gang in Rome. Then suddenly he finds love where he least expects it. In a fateful coincidence, Ludwig saves a vampire from a werewolf attack and makes a discovery that will link his life with Quintilius and Lupo's forever. However, he has to handle vampires, werewolves and angels plotting against them first.

There are a couple of stories woven into the story of Ludwig and Quintilius and their love for each other. Lupo was definitely an interesting part of the story and although in this one it covered his relationship with his father Quintilius, it also signposted a potential book detailing his relationship with Jasmine the Panther. I enjoyed the way that the characters in the book explored their feelings and eventually came to the correct conclusions even if they took their time getting to what I feel was the right conclusion. Well written and enjoyable.

#8 - Lupo - 4*

Werewolf Lupo has lost everything as his soulmate Jasmine died in a tragic accident which he feels responsible for. The paranormal court sentenced him to 12 months in the Roman prison Regina Coeli where past enemies plus his own regrets mean it is only his imaginary conversations with Jasmine that are keeping him sane. As he is released he is forced to deal with the real life and the thought that Jasmine is actually alive in his mind. Can he find the strength to fight for his life and have a happy ending?

This was a story that was both sweet and dramatic as Lupo had to deal with the worst that the prison and inmates there had to offer. Thankfully he wasn't going mad and Jasmine was, in fact, alive - however, he is going to need every bit of strength he can muster if he is going to find and save her. This was definitely a bit of a rollercoaster of a story which I really enjoyed. It was well written and very enjoyable as everything was unfolding. You don't need to have read the previous books in the series although it will give you extra context for the relationships between the other characters in the story.

#9 - An Immortal Christmas - 4*

In the distant past, Camelia left Constantine to marry an Italian werewolf. So in desperation, he asked a warlock to revoke his soulmate bonds to Camelia - the price was huge - if they were ever physically located near to each other he would die by the next full moon. So he moved to Seattle and concentrated on living a life on his own. However Camelia is in Seattle and there is a full moon o Christmas Day - which is actually tomorrow. Can the power of love give them both a happy ending and save Constantine?

This was a charming story of an ancient frustrated love and how it all comes right at Christmastime. There was a lot of detail around the thoughts and emotions of both Camelia and Constantine and what happened in the past. An enjoyable Christmas story.

Review: The Immortals - Books 4-6 by Monica La Porta 5 of 5 stars

The Immortals - Books 4-6 The Immortals - Books 4-6 by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A bargain of a boxset that will leave you addicted and wanting more of the Immortals and their turbulent lives in and around Rome in Italy.

The Hidden Demon - 5*
As a demon, Peter is a pariah but has the skill that he can touch the dead and read their last thoughts, so is tolerated by the rest of the paranormal community. However, he is also cursed because any person that he touches he can influence - so he is convinced that he will live his days out with no intimacy nor any companionship. Wolf shifter and forensic anthropologist Ophelia is in love with her best friend Samuel who is totally in love with someone else so going through a personal crisis. So when the remains of a couple are discovered in an embrace both Ophelia and Peter are pulled in to find out what happened and who they are. Having met on site, their wit, intellect and attraction become something that cannot be denied and they feel an inescapable pull towards each other. Problems start when it becomes apparent that they are forces involved that want the story to remain hidden and they find themselves fighting to save themselves. Can they survive the situation and will the pull they feel between each other become impossible to deny?

This was a great story which has a lot of drama, danger, passion and even inter-species politics all pulled into a story which will suddenly become both deadly and undeniable as they end up fighting to save each other from the forces that would prefer that the truth stayed buried. There were some nice touches in this story and it makes you think how would we each cope as individuals if we were not able to touch people we cared about nor be able to tell the difference between an automatic reaction and true passion. I loved the ending of the story and it was so special to experience how they managed to get past all the problems that were in the way. Well written and a very enjoyable story.

An Immortal Valentine's Day - 5*
Alexander Drako may have been a playboy once, but now he is a doting father of three. There is a=to be a nighttime special party for Valentine's Day but he forgot the flowers that Ravenna wants to decorate. So he joins with friends Marcus and Samuel to go to paranormal rehab centre Wolf's Haven to get flowers from their greenhouse that have not been sold. Peter and Ophelia are back from their year-long honeymoon and she is eager to see adoptive father Quintilius who is volunteering at Wolf's Haven so they rush over there. Quintilius is not happy to see Peter as he stole his princess from him. However, they all focus on a crisis at the centre trying to find missing teenager Luisa, a girl who’s run away with a dangerous gang member. Will they be able to find the missing girl and make it back for the party?

I enjoyed this story which had lots of danger, drama and excitement all mixed into a soup of emotions and feelings experienced by the characters. I loved seeing Quintilius and Peter work together and find a way to resolve their differences. It was interesting to see how these strong men had turned to putty as soon as they found love with their women and subsequent offspring. Very enjoyable

Raphael - 5*

Shifter Raphael has a dreadful past life which has left him scarred and now is on his own it no one to care for him. He lives rough in the catacombs beneath Rome and does everything he can to evade the Controler who just wants to send him back to a life of torment in the Renegade Youth Shelter. His life takes a rapid turn the day he meets werewolf Luisa who is his one true soulmate. However, they only meet for a very short time as he has to continue to flee the Controller. With a broken heart and an absolutely bereft wolf, he will sacrifice everything he has (even if it is his freedom) when he discovers he has been captured by a ruthless street gang. Will he be able to rescue her so they can be happy together forever?

This book was a rollercoaster ride through a broken care system, a street-gang and the underbelly of Rome. He'll have to do all sorts of things that are not in his nature in order to be near to her and try to get her away from such a dire situation. The end was explosive and full of drama and danger as Raphael battled to save them both from the brutality of the street gang. If I had one regret, it is that the conclusion was a little abrupt although I did like the final solution. An enjoyable story and at times an addictive read.

Review: Renegade Vampireby Monica La Porta 5 of 5 stars

Renegade Vampire Renegade Vampire by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Stella is a real-life Princess but she certainly doesn't live life like one. Her parents tragically died in an accident, she was then raised by an Aunt who has now also died of old age, and she is now all alone in the world with no money, little income from the many jobs she does, and a large bill to pay to save her ancestral home. With impending homelessness and desperate for a solution she contemplates becoming a Blood Courtesan in a business transaction with a wealthy Vampire - after all, it's all business so there is no danger of love getting in the way. Ancient vampire Fabian Laurentis is a world-famous actor and playboy. However, he is also the only reason Stella is still alive and when he realises she is about to make the worst mistake of her life he is determined that no one else will have her - no matter the cost. Little does he realise how difficult that may become - can he keep them both safe?

This was a lovely story and I really enjoyed the softer side of a Vampire being shown. I enjoyed Stella's determination to protect the people and things that she loved and how she took the difficult decision to do whatever it took to save her home. It was well written and it was easy to understand and experience all of the emotions and events happening to all of the characters. I felt so sorry for her as her troubles mounted up and definitely hoping someone could help her.

Review: The Immortals Collection by Monica La Porta 5 of 5 stars

The Immortals Collection The Immortals Collection by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great collection of 3 books that is a bargain if you want to start the series.

The Lost Centurion - 5*
Marcus is made into an immortal by Apollo and after travelling lots is back in Rome to find and kill the vampire who killed his wife. We then read through a series of situations that contain examples of the emotions of revenge, an analysis of what really is the truth as opposed to hearsay and revenge (does it really make you feel good?) I loved the depth of the characters and how they managed all these uncertainties. The romance in the story was well written and enjoyable without being too sweet and cloying. An enjoyable story that was a great introduction to this series.

The Immortal Greek - 4*
Alexander Drako is handsome, famous, rich, Greek-born and one of the Immortals. Ravenna Del Sarto is an enforcer for the Immortal Council, focused on her career and has no time for rich, spoilt playboys. At a party at Alexander's house, a young immortal commits suicide by jumping off a balcony and Ravenna is sent to investigate. Can Alexander get past her walls or will he be charged with the death?

This was a lovely story with a lot of drama, danger and excitement. Well written and very enjoyable it gave a great insight into some of the politics in the world of paranormal residents in Rome.

The Broken Angel - 5*
Samuel was betrayed by a man he loved and was therefore stranged on Earth as a fallen angel with none of his original powers. Instead, he tries to cope with his life and his pain by working for the Immortal Council headquarters in Rome as a liaison between species. Despised for what he is the only place he feels solace is at the gym owned by his friend Alexander Drako sparing away his own pain. Martina is living in a nightmare thanks to her abusive rich ex-husband, but she focuses her mind on her job working as a pro bono lawyer for abused women. The authorities and her ex constantly deny her justice so he gets solace from working our in the same gym as Samuel so when she is asked to spar with one of the owner's friends she is happy to oblige (even though on the face of it he is crippled). A friendship develops between these broken souls and even though they are from two different worlds they will soon have to fight both human and the paranormal worlds for their right to be together.

This was a lovely story which seamlessly merged the problems they were both having in their own worlds together into a story full of drama, danger and passion as they found each other and then fell for each other. It was great to understand how the two worlds couple connect, collide and try to stay unknown even though they were in the same location. It was heartening to read that they had both found happiness after all the pain each of them had experienced. Well written it was very enjoyable and I loved the HEA at the end.

However, a spell went a little wrong and it meant that these two strangers will have a one night stand that is just the start of their lives together. Can people and secrets from their pasts destroy what they have?

This is a lovely story with a chance meeting, a little nudge from magic and then drama and excitement all the way. I enjoyed the concept of the story and it was great to experience a prim librarian losing her inhibitions and getting the happiness she truly deserved. Well written it was very enjoyable. I thought that the physical side of their relationship was tastefully done and not too graphic. Very enjoyable.

Review: Immortal Desires by Melanie James by A.K. Michaels by Rebecca Rivard by Monica La Porta 4 of 5 stars

Immortal Desires Immortal Desires by Melanie James by  by

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A bargain collection of books by some great authors.

The Dragon and The Vampire 4* - AK Michaels

Ronan is a powerful vampire and Director of the Supernatural Enforcement Bureau is surprised to find out that dragons DO exist and that one is being hunted in his area. He has to find her and then protect her with everything he has before a group of black magic practising supernaturals catch her. Starr is a dragon and has spent her life hiding in order to say alive. When she meets Ronan she suddenly feels safe and it becomes apparent they are mates.

Great story with lots of drama and danger in the desperate fight to keep Starr safe. Mixed into that was a love story which certainly has a foundation in physical love too. Good start to the series. Well written and a pleasant read.

Sea Dragon's Hunger 4* - Rebecca Rivard

Cassidy O’Byrne is an Irish shifter and one hot summer she had fallen in love with visiting shifter Nic do Rio. However he had a big secret so ended up leaving her behind. However she then discovered she was pregnant and so she gives birth to her daughter Rianna in Ireland and was determined to bring her up alone. Three years later Cassidy is running with their daughter from the Fae so she heads for the only man she thinks can save them - Nic. He never thought he would see her again and is shocked to discover he has a child - now he'll do everything he can to keep Cassidy and Rianna safe and at the same time convince her to give him a second chance.

What a great story. It had all the necessary ingredients of a not shifter man, misunderstandings, hurt, danger and fighting for a new beginning. It was quite addictive as I got further into the story and the danger was building I was really rooting for Nic and Cassidy to be safe and find the happiness that so deserved. Well written it was really enjoyable and worth reading whether you are into the Fada Shapeshifters or Bad Alpha Dads.

Malcolm: A Wolf’s Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance Malcolm: A Wolf’s Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance by Monica La Porta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Malcolm is alpha for the Sunrise Pack and the mayor of Angel’s Pass and is also getting over a divorce. Julia catches her boyfriend cheating on her in her own flat/their own bed and so decides to cry for a short while and then go visit her best friend who lives in Angel's Pass. Can Malcolm cope with all his duties including the inauguration of his microbrewery when the Wolf's Hunger strikes? Can he and Julia survive through his determined ex-wife who won't let go, a group of renegades and a magnetic attraction that strikes at first scent and cannot be denied?

This is a lovely story in the Wolf's Hunger series of books that had all the necessary ingredients of a strong alpha, a mate that was hiding in plain sight, a vengeful ex and renegades. Well written it was a very enjoyable light read that definitely had the power to keep me hooked to find out what was going to happen next.

A Vampire's Thirst: Treachery & Danger A Vampire's Thirst: Treachery & Danger by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adrian and Lavinia have know each other for a year and have decided to celebrate by accepting an invite to a really exclusive party to meet other bloodmates organised by Victor Strong. However as soon as they arrive there, attacks start to happen and the relaxing vacation becomes a holiday from hell. Will they stay safe in all the madness or will something terminal put a dampener on the festivities?

This was a great story that showed eloquently the basic need of a vampire to protect their bloodmate and the way that can be in contrast with the strong women they have as a bloodmate - in this case a hybrid human/wolf shifter. It was dramatic all the way through and I loved the way it ended. Well written it was a welcome addition to the vampire's thirst series of books.
