Handcuffs in the Heather Handcuffs in the Heather by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gardener and sometime sleuth Doreen Montgomery (plus her cat, dog, and parrot) are resting after the closure of her previous case and having looked at the 4 boxes of files she inherited from journalist Bridgeman Solomon have begun thinking how they might help her in the future with even more cold cases. So, when she stumbles over a pair of pink satin handcuffs in her standoffish neighbour Richard de Genaro’s heather patch, she wonders if those reporter’s files could have anything useful to offer regarding that. She starts to look into it and is headed down a merry trail of prostitution, embezzlement, and, of course, murder. But the minute the files suggest a connection to Doreen’s speciality, a cold case, her beau and partner in crime, Corporal Mack Moreau, starts breathing down her neck. However, she is not in the habit of listening to Mack about that after all, it has always worked out fine before. With her trusty animals leading the way, Doreen sets out to find the connection between the reputable banker who died in an unsolved hit-and-run and the prostitute who owned the pink satin handcuffs. As Doreen puts it all together, even she is surprised at the outcome of her latest investigation.

This is a delightful addition to the series which step by step follows Doreen through her investigation into the murky world of prostitution and which also delves into the areas of love and betrayal. Well written and easy to both read and understand it will keep you hooked as you get drawn into the story. This can be read even if you have not read the series before and contains no sexual content,

Kanye is a powerful Dragon Guard as he is also the son of Lugh, the Celtic God of the Sun and he had always insisted he wouldn't find a mate but then he met Pearl who is a Strix and sassy enough to keep cocky Kanye in check. However, evil never stops especially when mates meet and it is up to them to eradicate the evil in the world as well as the maker of it. The question is can he make the right decision when it is needed and can they work together to sort this evil presence out?

I loved this story - it pulled together so much information about parentage, history current events, magic and also found some more guardsmen in boxes too. Well written and very enjoyable I was definitely addicted as I rushed to find out what happened net. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Her Dragon's Treasure by Julia Mills 3 of 5 stars

Her Dragon's Treasure Her Dragon's Treasure by Julia Mills
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Mermaid Talullah is bored or being at home and not having adventures as she knows she has the strength and determination to fulfil them. Dragon Guard Enforcer and Berserker Atticus is trapped in a silver box at the bottom of the sea and is running out of time when Lulu senses him via the mate connection and can hear his pleas for help and goes to the bottom of the sea with her sister to try and free him. An earthquake helps to destroy his prison but puts them both in danger. After a storm, the evil Afanc appear and they all have to work together to defeat them - if only she can get through to him and stop him before he kills everyone (not just the enemy). So whilst fate cannot be denied between mates, neither can Lulu when she is on a mission. Can they survive and have the HEA they are being promised?

This was a lovely story with lots of new races and baddies which meant the standard dragon guard formula was changed a bit at the end. It was nice for there to be such a strong woman (which she had to be in order to contain her mate). Well written and enjoyable to read.

Archaeologist Olivia Perez and PITO Agent Kael are back trying to find the third key in order to stop the evil dark mage from beating them to it and destroying life on the world as we know it. At the same time Olivia as to struggle to contain the dark magic that lives within her and with Kael's help keep coming back when it tries to take her over. At the same time, they need to fight off all the others who would like to have the keys and her magic themselves - can they do all of that and stay alive? Can Olivia handle the glimpses of her past as they become revealed to her let alone keep her own morality intact while making some really difficult decisions?

Wow - this was a great continuation of the trilogy which moved the story along nicely while leaving lots of outstanding questions as well as tasks for them to do in the final book. I loved the way their relationship developed as well as the results of that development. The situations they found themselves in were credible to the story and well written so that I could see and feel them as I read the story. I just cannot wait for the final instalment now and now it all ends - especially the conclusion of the mate discussion.

Review: Fallen Reign by Nazri Noor 5 of 5 stars

Fallen Reign Fallen Reign by Nazri Noor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A character from the Darkling Mage series by the same author, Nephilim Mason Albrecht is trying to make his own way with help (or hindrance) from a trio of friends angel Raziel, dryad Florian and demon prince Belphegor. His main concern is earning enough money to make the rent and buy food as well we protect himself from various attempts to use or capture him from all sorts of ancient beings from deities to demon princes. Can Mason find ways to earn the money he needs, protect himself and learn the skills he was born to have at the same time?

I LOVED this new series. It was delightful to see Mason be the grown-up at times as well as the struggle to reach his full potential (and we went through the learning curve at the same time as he did). Florian was a great new character introduced in this series which has the promise of great things to come. I loved the way Mason finally lost it and just went into rant mode which was a very human emotion considering the things he was going through and the obtuseness of the people he was dealing with. Well written, clear and easy to understand, and a pleasure to read, my only sadness was in coming to the end of the story and having to wait for the next instalment!

FURY: Shifting Vale Haven FURY: Shifting Vale Haven by Julia Mills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dragon Guardsman Fury has finally learnt to deal with the visions of the future that he gets from others as well as living in solitude when he starts to dream of a redhead with lots of courage and the mate connection to him and his dragon. Pippa is a PI and is currently mourning the loss of her two best friends while they were on the job. She has the ability to see a person's past and leaves her home with only the guardian of a purple dragon to keep her company in her dreams - the question is is the real or has she lost her mind? Then to ensure she had to face a new reality, her ‘mythical’ Warrior burst onto the scene, sent a Demon packing, restored her fraying nerves, and filled her with a hope she’d been sure had abandoned her long ago. Can these two join forces in order to combine the power of the mother goddess and the dragon kings and save the area of Shifting Vale? It has all the promise of an epic battle followed by an explosive meeting between these two mates.

This story is a great slant on the standard dragon guard stories that involved a lot more different mythical creatures in the mix which made it nicely different. However, the wording was pretty much the same at the end of the story which is getting a bit wooden now. Well written and a very enjoyable story.

Witch Kamdyn is the daughter of Evan McGregor and should have inherited power and magic of a hundred centuries of unstoppable witches, but a thief is holding her captive and has her power - if only she can get it back. Dragon Guardsman Callum O’Shea has long and proud family history behind him and is determined to make his mark and step up to be as great as his ancestors were. If only they didn't get in the way of each other's plans!!!

This was a nice story in the Dragon Guard series that featured a strong and powerful woman and a determined man. There were definitely sparks between them - so I'm glad they found a solution before there was a regrettable accident. Well written and very enjoyable.

As soon as Dragon Guardsman Grey has seen wolf-shifter Star he knew she was his Mate but she was not ready to accept that, but now he is going to the Florida swamp that her wolf pack lives in and this time he is determined to make her see sense. Can they work together to defeat the bad guys and find a way to be together?

This was a sweet story that all the requisite elements that a Dragon Guard story contains - a strong and sassy woman, a gorgeous and overbearing male, and sparks flying. Archaeologist Olivia Perez is at what could be the dig of a lifetime when she does her thing and wanders off the beaten track looking for treasures. She finds a key which she pockets and takes home with her not realising it is cursed until she suffers from bad visions and decides to bury it somewhere nearby jut to get rid of it - the worst thing she could have done as it is then taken by an evil mage who is hell-bent on doing evil things with it. So they are forced to work together to try and find the missing key which takes them on a twisted journey of magic and paranormal beings - will they find the key before it is too late?

This was a great start to the series that has completely got me hooked. I loved the developing relationship between them and I hope it later books in the story will have them become more intimate and invested in a relationship. Well written and easy to understand.

Dragon Guard Lennox O’Lachtnáin also known as the Mad Bomber has had enough of the blind dates his brethren have been arranging for him let alone the failed first dates - he just needs to meet his fated mate and quickly. Lenn meets a raven-haired beauty who is definitely the one and after having a tattoo after a drunken night wakes up to find her in his bed - but she won't wake up. So his answer is to blow something up and have another beer as he resolves to be alone for eternity. Can he move on and find true love?

Dragon Guard Angus has been imprisoned and tortured for over a century and when he finally escapes, he might be near death but he can sense his mate nearby and so tries his hardest to make sure he is found and saved. Only by working together can he survive and they can reunite him with his brethren.

I loved this story and the dynamic between Olivia and Angus as they worked on survival as well as their relationship. I did find her denial and the lengths she went to hide what was happening a bit silly, although the actual story between the two of them was very sweet. Well written is was very enjoyable.

Rory and the fellow scions are still on the one side with the power-hungry barons on the other in this dramatic final book in the series. Can Rory and the men she loves prevent the catastrophe that is building so that is doesn't shatter not only their community of magic holders but the non-magical world too?

This was a fitting final story in the series where there was a lot of drama, danger, plotting and betrayal. Through everything, Rory and the guys stood strong and worked with both the magical and non-magical communities in order to find a way to stop the madness started by the barons. Success will mean they can live their lives together in a way that they would like even if they have to take some extreme actions to get there. Claws, Class and a Whole Lotta Sass Claws, Class and a Whole Lotta Sass by Julia Mills
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Dannika has been hiding in plain sight as the healer in a pack of wolves but her world is completely rocked when 6 foot 9 inches tall Dragon Guardsman Wolfe McCallum arrives and wakes up her dragoness. He has always scoffed at fated mates but now realises how real it actually is, as he can clearly see in Danni that she is his mate - if only they can both admit that it is true and work out their differences. At the same time, an ancient evil has reared its ugly head and they are going to have to work together in order to fulfil an ancient prophecy. Can Wolfe and Danni accept their fate and work together in order to save the whole of the supernatural kind?

I liked this story although I felt it was missing some details as well as the abrupt ending which completely confused me - one the minute it looked like there was going to be a mating ceremony and the next the book said to be continued. Well written if a little lightweight in places, it was an enjoyable story with drama, danger and some passion. Does contain some sexual content.
