The Cursed Key by Miranda Brock by Rebecca Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Archaeologist Olivia Perez is at what could be the dig of a lifetime when she does her thing and wanders off the beaten track looking for treasures. She finds a key which she pockets and takes home with her not realising it is cursed until she suffers from bad visions and decides to bury it somewhere nearby jut to get rid of it - the worst thing she could have done as it is then taken by an evil mage who is hell-bent on doing evil things with it. She suddenly realises the mistake after a an ill-tempered shifter agent from the Paranormal Intelligence and Tracking Organization (PITO) turns up demanding it back. So they are forced to work together to try and find the missing key which takes them on a twisted journey of magic and paranormal beings - will they find the key before it is too late?
This was a great start to the series that has completely got me hooked. The two main characters were very believable and it was easy to get invested in their quest to find the key and also what or who Olivia actually is. I loved the developing relationship between them and I hope it later books in the story will have them become more intimate and invested in a relationship. Well written and easy to understand.
