Review: Piece of Tail by Milly Taiden by Milly Taiden

Piece of Tail (Paranormal Dating Agency, #13)Piece of Tail by Milly Taiden
My rating:  by Milly Taiden

Prowl Leader Becca Duran has dealt with a lot in a fairly short time which culminated in the death of her brother. Now the leopard council has demanded that she mates with an alpha (with no regard to if she loves nor even likes him). With absolutely no choice in her situation, she decides to take a chance with Gerri Wilder and the Paranormal Dating Agency. Envisioning it as a simple process, she expects to get a match and then move on. Except, it’s not. It’s hard (thick and hard) with large muscles and a panty-wetting smile. Alpha Jaylon Ross has been given 30 days to find a mate to help solidify his wolf pack or face his unhappy council and their choice of a mate for him. So he makes an appointment with Gerri Wilder hoping that the PDA will help find him the perfect mate. On the way there he stumbles into the answer to his prayers in the heart of Manhattan. A sexy, curvy, sarcastic feline he dreams of stroking and wants to hear purr. As they collide and sparks fly with an attraction that just cannot be ignored, nothing is going to be easy for them both. Past and present are going to do it's best to take control and they are going to have to fight to stay alive (let alone be together).

This was a great story that had lots of drama, excitement, twists, turns, plots and subplots. It was a dizzying round of players who were all trying to sabotage the couple and prevent them from having a future together. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains lots of explicit sexual content.

Review: Chance & Sage: A Wolf's Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance by S. Raven Storm 4 of 5 stars

Chance & Sage: A Wolf's Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance (Tatum A Wolf's Hunger)Chance & Sage: A Wolf's Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance by S. Raven Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shifter Chance thought he had years to go before he had to take his father's place as the Alpha of the Rolling Hills Pack, but after a fateful day it has left his brother dead, his father maimed and the entire pack under attack and someone looking to take his place - so he has no choice but to become the alpha he has been groomed to be. As part of that, he will have to fight to the death to protect his family and his pack with the help of his godfather, Alpha King Tatum. The only thing stronger will be Wolf's Hunger when it takes him and he has to heed it or die. Sage is a combination of her mother (Alpha Queen Bristol) and her legendary father (Alpha King Tatum). She thinks that it was enough that she is the only female in the elite fighting group called The Beasts, but because she is a female he twin brother will be the next alpha of their pack and she will be married off to some other alpha. Determined to prove that she is actually the twin who has mastered all of her father's techniques properly, that all is pushed to the side when the Wolf's Hunger strikes her, she knows that her heart is what she needs to follow and not her ambition. Can they sort everything out and have the HEA that they deserve?

I loved this story which was a nice twist on the Wolf's Hunger storyline as it involved a couple of alpha wolves that had it at the same time and had to modify the way they saw their futures developing. I liked the twists and turns in the story and the various characters involved (who I hope will get their own HEA at some time in the future too). Well written and very enjoyable, I definitely felt myself reading faster and faster as I became determined to find out what was going to happen next. I have to say, considering how she was in her own story I was surprised (and disappointed) at the attitude that Bristol had towards the future that Sage was initially being pushed towards. Review: Deadly Protector by Milly Taiden 4 of 5 stars

Deadly Protector (Federal Paranormal Unit #4)Deadly Protector by Milly Taiden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Federal Paranormal Unit has a new member in Katrina Mejia and she knows she will need to prove herself against the more established members of the team. She is also wondering who the guy who hides in the corner looking all tall, dark and broody because he makes her heart skip a beat. Dragon shifter Hunter Cross likes working undercover where he can stay away from people and any emotional attachments - he is also adamant that he is not interested in finding a mate as that is a complication he does not need. However, things change for him when he finds his own mate because he is still determined that he doesn't want her, but at the same time his dragon and his body craves her. Kat decides to put herself in the sights of a madman who is abducting women but it will result in her becoming the prey of more than one man - especially when a piece of Hunter's past resurfaces unexpectedly - it will take far more than his dragon to keep his mate alive. Can Hunter and Kat work together to take down the predator while they fight their own burning passion?

This was a nice story that definitely has a few layers of story entwined together so that we needed to go through each layer in order to work out who was the real bad guy. Definitely a surprise as to who it was who had caused all of the abductions at the end. Hunter was a bit of an idiot but he did get with the programme at the end so he deserves credit for that. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains some sexual content at the end.

Review: Paranormal Dating Agency Volume 2 by Milly Taiden 4 of 5 stars

Paranormal Dating Agency Volume 2 (Paranormal Dating Agency, #5-7)Paranormal Dating Agency Volume 2 by Milly Taiden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great value collection of books following the story of three shifters finding their true mates.

#5 Tall, Dark and Panther - 4*
Curvy Maya Zara is sick and tired of men who think she should just settle for them. Then she meets Gerri Wilder and signed up for a date with a shifter. Panter Noah Wright has lusted after his neighbour for months and did nothing as she already had a boyfriend. So when he lets Gerri set him up for a date the last person he expected was his gorgeous neighbour Maya. However, her crazy family and a stalker ex who seems unable to understand the word no are making her life a living hell - can she figure out what she wants before she loses her chance at love with the lonely panther?

This was a lovely story that had them with a chance to make their dreams come true is that only she can make her decision. I loved the different emotional influences and how they handled it as well as the final decision that was made. Well written, it was easy to feel and understand what they were both going through. This story does contain explicit sexual content.

#6 The Alion King - 5*
Isabella Barca (Bella) is a great organiser but not so great at staying out of trouble, so she takes on the role of Gerri Wilder's assistant and finds the trip of a lifetime on offer as she travels with Gerri to a shifter planet to help find the king a mate. Lion shifter king Wilder's assistant does not apologise does not purr and has not asked for help. However, when Gerri arrives and he meets Bella, he finds himself doing everything apart from purring. With wolves stirring all kinds of trouble for them and a cousin who would like to shred Bella to ribbons, things are not simple for the couple. Not at all. One thing's for sure when his mate is taken and threatened, the entire planet will hear the lion king's roar

I really loved this story which was a really nice mixture of a macho shifter, a woman doing her best to come to terms with another way of doing things, and a lion who will change as much as he needs in order to please the woman he loves. There was plenty of drama, suspense and danger as the story unfolded. Well written, it was easy to understand and feel everything as they were going through events. Contains explicit sexual content.

#7 There's Snow Escape 4*
Charlotte Marzan has been invited to another planet - one containing shifters - in order to attend her best friend's wedding to a real-life lion king. She may be curvy but there are two really hot guys looking at her as if they have not eaten in years and she is the ideal food. She really shouldn't be interested, but she is there to have fun! Wolf shifters Brecc and Eros need to find a single mate to share before the pack elders impose one on them. In desperation they ask PDA's Gerri Wilder to find them one - after all, she seems to always be able to deliver outspoken, curvy and incredibly sexy women from Earth and that is Charlotte - they just need to find a way to get her to stay forever - should be simple surely? Can Charlotte work out why Brecc is so distant and get him to open up and why there is so much drama with the neighbouring group of dragon shifters? Will Charlotte be able to growly loud enough to be heard after all when two wolves chose a mate there is no escape?

This was a great story that had lots of drama, tension, stubbornness and determination between the three of them. Thank goodness she was so determined that she was able to get them to see sense. Well written, it was a very enjoyable read. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Federal Paranormal Unit, Volume 1 by Milly Taiden 5 of 5 stars

Federal Paranormal Unit, Volume 1 (Federal Paranormal Unit, #1-3)Federal Paranormal Unit, Volume 1 by Milly Taiden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great set of three books that is a great bargain too.

#1 Wolf Protector - 5*
A subset of the FBI, the Federal Paranormal Unit (FPU) is an elite squad of supernaturals dedicated to solving missing person cases. Members of the team do not necessarily know what everyone else's ability is, which suits her as Erica has a gift that enables her to connect to the crime, but it does cause her to pay a really deep personal cost that makes her have a tortured life for a while. Her latest case will team her with agent and wolf shifter Trent Buchanan - a man she has desired for years but as he is a womaniser she would never admit to that. However, Trent knows that Erica is his mate and wants her to the exclusion of anyone else. He has spent years trying to patiently wait for her to admit she wants him too, but even baiting her seems to fail in getting her to admit it. When they have to work one on one in a race to find a serial killer, his patience (and Erica's resolve) wears very thin, but when he finds out about her ability can he accept her for who (and what) she really is and protect her from the horrors she will suffer? This case is going to push them both right to the edge where Erica is going to have to risk it all and Trent is probably going to have to put his own life on the line in order to make sure his mate is protected.

I loved this story which has plenty of drama and danger as they battled to work out who the serial killer was as well as working out their own relationship. There was plenty of emotions and feelings at times in this story as well as twists and turns in the story as they worked through it all. I loved the clear way this was written and the way that everything was easy to understand and feel everything. A great introduction to the series as well as a love story mixed into a murder mystery. Contains some sexual content.

#2 Dangerous Protector - 4*
Shifter and head of the Federal Paranormal Unit has lived for the last ten years without the woman that he loves who is also his mate just making sure that he helps others and accepting that he has no personal life. Then she suddenly returns. Cynthia Vega felt that she had a very good reason to leave the only man she has ever loved after she had accepted his marriage proposal, but now she is back and is apparently now his boss. Brock is determined not to ignore the chemistry between them nor the past that they share - as far as he is concerned he needs to clam his mate finally as well as prove that their passion is hotter than before. He just needs to know what her explanation is so he can understand why he has suffered all this pain. It appears that some secrets are not going to stay buried in the past and Cynthia's reluctance may end up being the key to their own destruction. Can they resolve everything and survive all of this?

This was a story which explained a lot of things in the past from both the point of view of the story as well as Trent and Cynthia. There was definitely a case of decisions made without a discussion festering over time and making matters worse as well as a dramatic mysteries that were woven together into a story that we were all taken through as we read this book. It was full of twists and turns as we all had to work through the multiple layers. Well written with lots of thoughts and emotions as we were all able to go on the same journey as the characters in the book. Contains some sexual content.

#3 Unwanted Protector - 5*
Both Jane Donovan and shifter Tony Ramirez work for the Federal Paranormal Unit and Jane has lived a lie for the past 10 years as she has run from reality and the temptation that is Tony, but this year her holiday getaway is filled with more than relaxation as there is a dead man on her cabin's kitchen floor when she arrives there. Suddenly keeping Tony away is not so important. Tony has wanted Jane for the last ten years - she might not be his mate, but he can't ignore the attraction he feels towards her so when he gets a strong feeling that he needs to check on her as she is in danger he decides he needs to crash her vacation and take whatever punishment that leads to. But when he arrives at the cabin she is not there and no one knows where she can be. Working out who the man suddenly seems irrelevant when a small pink-haired child makes an appearance and she needs help. Unfortunately for Jane, the trouble with her small lie is that it will grow with time and the truth is likely to come to light before she is ready for it. So now they have a murder, a child, a mystery and their attraction to each other which is impossible to ignore. Can they get to the bottom of everything and work out their relationship and what the truth actually is?

I loved this story which had a great combination of a mystery, a lie, a very special child and love and devotion that was impossible to ignore. The way that the truth came out was typical of the way that secrets will come out eventually as they will not stay hidden forever. It was well written and very easy to read and understand. I could feel the frustration from Tony as well as the determination from Jane as she kept to her ideals and what she was striving to achieve. The ending was very unexpected and I now need to go and look to see if there is a new series that carries on with the story. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Savage Protector by Julia Mills 5 of 5 stars

Savage Protector: Savage Protector by Julia Mills
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this story, the Dragon Protection Agency and Federal Paranormal Units are back working together. The story features Abe - a dragon who is bald, tattooed, dark-eyed, and 7'2" tall together with honey badger Shauna who is incredibly sassy and has the habit of talking way before her brain catches up with her mouth. When a severed head is delivered to Shauna and then a few other limbs turn up, it starts to get serious which then is escalated to a whole new level when Shauna is abducted. Can Abe save Shauna so they can have their HEA or will it all end in failure?

This was a very dramatic story which involved many of the characters involved in the DPA and FPU working together in order to solve and then save Shauna and the other shifters who were affected. I was a very dramatic story that needed the sass and bravery from Shauna together with the teamwork and violent abilities of the other paranormal races working together to beat an old enemy. I loved the sassy of Shauna as well as the determination and single-mindedness of Abe which made them the perfect couple. Well written and easy to read and understand, I really enjoyed this story. Contains some sexual content as well as a little bad language.

Review: Rockin' Around the Dragon Tree: MacAllen Clan by Julia Mills 4 of 5 stars

Rockin' Around the Dragon Tree: MacAllen Clan (Dragon Guard Book 43)Rockin' Around the Dragon Tree: MacAllen Clan by Julia Mills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Snow is falling in the desert, the cacti has icicles and bobcats have frostbite. It all started when Tree kissed Jodie and she punched him on the nose, moved miles away, changed her phone number and closed down their mating bond so he had no way of contacting her to apologise. Over a year a passed and he is almost at boiling point with frustration and despair. Soon events will throw them together and they will have to learn to work together, establish trust and love between each other rapidly in order to save each other (and the world). Can they resolve their issues, find a way forward and save everyone?

This was a very dramatic story that started off a bit slow and boring before going into lots of drama and quick action as things got more and more dangerous. I loved the way they eventually came together and realised that there was great love between them both and well as an ability to trust each other and their own capabilities. In some ways, it felt strange to start off with such animosity and then end with such love and devotion. Well written and easy to read and feel the thoughts and the emotions of the characters. Does contain some sexual content.

Review: Dragon Guard Berserkers: Volume 1 by Julia Mills 4 of 5 stars

Dragon Guard Berserkers: Volume 1Dragon Guard Berserkers: Volume 1 by Julia Mills
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great value collection of three books

Banning - 4*
Dragon Guard Berserker Banning was changed into a statue on a fountain in a park and only has limited times when he can have released from that state. However, one fateful day he meets his mate Myanna(Mimi) when she tosses a coin into the fountain and makes a wish for her mother to be cured. Can he make contact with his mate now that his dragon is awoken and when events take a turn can he saves his mate which will, in turn, save him? Will fate be denied or prevail again this time?

This is a story full of danger, drama and excitement. Well written and very enjoyable this was an easy to read story, that definitely drew you in and made you want these two people to find their HEA. Contains some violent and sexual scenes.

Asher - 4*
Asher has been tortured to the point of madness and even though his mind is broken and his dragon is lost his soul has found his one true mate and there is nothing that is going to stop him getting to her. Feisty Willa is tired of being pushed aside just because she is a woman and will use the power of her ancestors and the rage built up from a century of disrespect so it is advisable to not get in her way. Can Willa bring Asher back from the brink and conquer both of their demons?

This was an enjoyable story that added to the dragon guard berserkers story and ensured that another one was rescued as well as successfully mated with his forever mate. Well written and enjoyable to read.

Raynor - 4*
Raynor is ancient, angry, and looking for vengeance. He less of a nice dragon and more of a BEAST. As a Dragon Guard Berserker, noting and no one is going to be able to stop him from saving the on the universe made for him. Will artist Elizabeth find beauty in the heart of her darkest nightmares? Can these two broken souls heal one another and stop the evil hiding behind an Armani suit and a slick smile?

She is the other half of his soul however he just needs to find a way to free her from the clutches of Hell’s Chancellor. It appears that there is one person that CAN save him - his mate and phoenix Clare who is trying to make her way to him while avoiding danger from a family of gryphons. Can she get to him in time or will they catch her and can the rest of the Dragon Guard keep him alive?

This was a story with a few twists in the normal Drang Guard stories due to Clare being a phoenix and the gryphon danger to her. A sweet story that has a HEA and gives you a warm glow at the end. Contains sexually explicit scenes. Well written and very enjoyable.

The Scars of Her Dragon - 4*
Dragon Guard Kellen Aherne lives with the demons of the past when he could not save innocents from a great evil. He tortures himself and won't let anyone near him. Review: A Vampire Christmas by Cassandra Lawson 4 of 5 stars

A Vampire ChristmasA Vampire Christmas by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Novella length Christmas story featuring vampire Drew and the rest of his family.

As Drew's own childhood (including Christmas) was more of a nightmare than the normal picture of idyllic he is determined to give his daughter only the happiest holiday memories. However, he has hit a few snags into his carefully made plans for her to have the perfect Christmas. By using a little Santa stalking and some family help surely everything is going to work out in the end?

I loved this short story which was exactly as if we had popped in to see how things were for Drew after a few years and proved that as much as he can try, nothing in his life is likely to ever be what we could consider as normal. I loved the way the family came together to make sure that there were Christmas surprises for everyone even if it appeared to be out of character for the way they used to be (and so showed some real development in each of them as well as their relationship with their family and/or partner). I loved the ending and the twists and turns in the story which certainly delivered on a few surprises. Well written and very enjoyable. My one slight criticism is that it made me think of all the parts of the stories around the series that I really wanted to know more about.

Review: Wicked Crazy Vampire Love by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Wicked Crazy Vampire LoveWicked Crazy Vampire Love by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There had been peace between vampires and hunters for years now but twenty-five years ago an alliance between a small group of hunters and vampires were determined to start a war between the two groups. When the plot was abandoned there was still a child who was a hybrid between a hunter and a vampire and in order to keep her safe she had been hidden for over two decades but now the original members of that plot have joined forces determined to kill her before anyone can discover what she is. Vampire Drew was raised by his crazy mother Phobe be the perfect killer and he assumes that would be all he ever was. He had watched his cousin find true happiness and love but knew he was far too broken for love with anyone. When his vampire family joins forces with hunters in an effort to stop the plot to start the war he is thrown together with a woman (Tallia) who is not what she seems. She might not be his usual type but he is incapable of staying away from her. As he tries to find a way to keep her safe he can't help but wonder if she can love him for who he is - even with all of his faults and craziness?

I loved this story which finally found someone who could give as good as she got with Drew and knew not to take all of his craziness seriously. Their relationship was sweet and definitely started from a solid friendship that developed into a love that was definitely two way. I loved the politics between the hunters and the vampires and the way it all played out. It was so sweet to finally have Drew happy and definitely focus on someone else. Well written and easy to read and understand I loved this story. Contains some sexual content as well as bad language.

Review: Wanton with a Vampire by Cassandra Lawson 4 of 5 stars

Wanton with a Vampire Wanton with a Vampire by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Vampire Aleksandr Draksel (Alek) had avoided commitment for over two hundred years determined to live a life of travel and mindless affairs. All that changed when he met Trish Williams as he is drawn to her even though she is a woman he cannot possibly have. However when she becomes the target of a killer he falls into the role of protector and he is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her safe while resisting the urge to seduce her. Trish had been irritated, flustered and even aroused by Alek from the moment she had met him. As she has no psychic abilities, she knows that they could only ever have a fling and that is not something she does. A broken shoe changes everything for her - and she gained a psychic ability after a near-death experience. Now she is determined to live her life to the full and that includes seducing Alek. Will he be able to resist?

This was a great book that certainly included a lot of drama, emotions and sexual content as Alek and Trish got to work out that they really did belong together. It was fun to read the way they butt heads together but also worked everything out in the end. The historic mystery that they solved was interesting and certainly dramatic in the way it was finally resolved. Well written and easy to read it was simple to pick up the thoughts and the emotions of the characters so that you could live the stories with them.

So he decides to do whatever it takes to prove to Justin just how very wrong he is.

Finally, we get to have a conclusion to the Caitlin and Justin story that gives them the kind of ending that they richly deserved. Caitlin was into full-on assertive and sassy woman mode who was determined to get what she wanted in life - how could anyone (especially Justin) deny her when she was like that? I did feel that they could have delved into the emotional side of things a bit more but I was thrilled with the way the story ended. Contains sexual and bondage content.

Review: War by Gwen Knight by Gwen Knight by R.E. Butler 3 of 5 stars

War (Feral Hearts Book 1)War by Gwen Knight by
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Having had a relationship with a witch in his past, alpha werewolf War found his fated mate in human Emma. However, at their mating ceremony, the witch decided he was her's and everything changed where his world was turned upside down turning all werewolves into feral beasts determined to kill all humans. Even worse, it meant that Emma was taken away from him. But one day War catches Emma's scent and realises only she can keep him free of the madness and return him to humanity - and so he determines to free her so they can be together even if War will have to risk everything to finally reclaim what is his.

This was a pleasant story that wasn't the usual shifter story as it had a dystopian side to it where it had been turned onto its head. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. Whilst it was a well-written story in that I understood all of it and could experience some of the emotions of the characters, I did find it a little monotonous in places. It felt like it was a longer book than it needed to be with the level of detail I experienced in the story. A good story that you might enjoy and so I would suggest trying this first book in the series to see if you can get on with the concept.

Review: Greyson by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Greyson (The K9 Files #9)Greyson by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Greyson Morgenstein has combined a trip to see his grandparents in Hawaii with a search for a missing K9 called Kona that had been flown to the wrong location. Searching for the dog is not going to be easy but is able to follow a trail of destruction that the dog has also followed and found her protecting a mother and child. Jessica had no idea why the dog seemed to always be around but found an animal of her size just scary. However, the dog was the least of her problems with everything else that is going on in her life - which all seems to stem from her ex-husband and so she is determined not to make a mistake that could jeopardise her toddler son Danny. As events start to escalate it doesn't take her long to decide who is on her side and who isn't - one thing is clear - she can rely on Greyson and Kona to protect them both from whoever comes after her and Danny. Can Greyson resist the call to protect Jessica and Danny and what is happening between them?

This was a sweet story which combined the drama of the mystery of who was threatening Jessica and her son Danny, and could Greyson and Kona keep them both safe? I loved the way that their relationship developed rapidly from protection to love. Greyson's grandparents were sweet and sounded like the kind of folks we all wish were as close to us as they were to him. The twists and turns of who was trying to get to Jessica were interesting and not what I suspected until the very end. Greyson was the typical alpha male who started from the status of protection to something more involved. Well written and easy to read and understand. There is a small amount of sexual content at the end of the story.

Review: Lennox by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Lennox (The Mavericks #10)Lennox by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lennox had planned to meet his sister Caroline and her best friend Helena in Germany but after they are not there he starts to suspect that there has been some trouble. This is confirmed when friend Gavin meets him outside of the terminal and it becomes clear that they have both been kidnapped. The two women were both doctors and travelled the world with the Red Cross and UN - something he had never hidden from anyone in his Navy SEAL past as he just assumed that nobody actually cared about it, but it appears that someone has decided to use his only family in order to get some kind of revenge against him. Helena is caught up in the kidnapping of Caroline and it all seems to be designed to get back at Lennox for something. Lennox is the most infuriating man she has ever met and is also the person she has cared for what feels like forever, but now knowing they are being used as a trap to take him out forever seemed like the worst kind of punishment. But she knew him and knew he would be coming to rescue them even if it meant losing his own life. From Lennox's point of view, he was not going to let to two women in his world be taken out without a fight - especially as he hasn't yet told Helena how he feels. Can he rescue them and work out who is behind all of this?

This was all very personal and dramatic in places. It was a nice mixture between a standard Mavericks story and a much more personal story as it went into history or both Lennox and Helena. I loved the dynamic between them and the way both women was sassy and fearless in the face of potential death. There were some twists and turns and it was good to enjoy the dynamic in the relationship between Lennox and Helena. Well written and very easy to understand. Contains a small amount of sexual content.

Review: Explosive by K.E. Osborn 5 of 5 stars

Explosive (The Houston Defiance MC Series Book 1)Explosive by K.E. Osborn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Zero is the president of the Houston Defiance MC and his job is to lead and protect the members of the club, but when he sees Rayne and the battered and bloodied state her cop husband has left her in through her daily beatings, he just feels deep rage and knows there is no way he can walk out of her house without taking her with him. It might have never been in his plans for the future, but they have an explosive connection that is both dangerous and intoxicating. They both might feel that their enemy is well known and obvious, but it appears that they both have an enemy who is much closer to home and completely unknown. Can they both survive or will it mean the destruction of them both?

OMG - this was very dramatic, deep and full of intensity as the story developed and twisted and turned its way through their lives. Every time I thought life would be back to a normal for them something unexpected would happen and throw it all into chaos again. I certainly never saw the complication near the end of the story and who was the person they could not trust. I was completely addicted to the story and found myself ignoring real-life things including sleep as I felt I had to just KNOW what has going to happen next. The ending has left so many things that can be explored going forward so that I just know the next books in the series are going to be just as addictive and unpredictable. Well written and very easy to understand. Contains a lot of sexual content and some violence.

Review: By Death: Books 1-3 by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

By Death: Books 1-3By Death: Books 1-3 by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great collection of three mystery stories with a little romance embedded within the story.

#1 - Touched by Death 5*
Anthropologist Jade Hansen had already been to Haiti once before dealing with unexpected death which had cost her an unborn child, a relationship and almost her sanity. However, after a year she was determined to face her issues and was returning there in a mortuary team to recover the bodies of an American family out of a mass grave. Dane Carter was an independent contractor and had put his own life on hold while he visited his brother and was working on rebuilding Jacmel after the quake. He had really had enough of his pregnant sister in law and her crazy family and so was thinking about how he could leave and go home until he met Jade and realised what his own life is missing. As the mortuary team starts to work it almost feels as if malevolence has been released from the earth and that it is not putting Jade's ghosts to rest but putting Dane right into the middle of it. Can they work out what is going on and will everyone come out of it whole?

This was one hell of a mystery/suspense story with multiple layers and multiple potential people involved. No matter which way you think it is going to end, it won't finish that way and will have different twists that you hadn't even thought of. Entwined into all of that, there was the love story between Jade and Dane slowly developing which became central to it as it neared a conclusion. Well written and easy to read, I definitely needed to find out who had done it (and was wrong in my guess too).

#2 - Haunted by Death 5*
Meg Pearce is an anthropologist and she feels like death haunts her as in her last summer before college an innocent camping trip ended in a friend’s disappearance. This had the effect of destroying her life because she lost her innocence, the plans she has for her future and even worse she lost her best friend/lover. After seventeen years, she has reluctantly returned to the same area, however, a gruesome discovery has sent her reeling back to the events that changed everything. Chad Ingram is a police detective and has spent the last seventeen years trying to solve the mystery of that camping trip so he can regain his life and more importantly the woman he lost - the love of his life. But this time death has not finished with them and even worse this time they are firmly in the sights.

Wow - this story was very dramatic and had lots of layers with many candidates for the guilty person, I certainly didn't see who it was and even when I had worked some of the story out, I was still wrong about who was responsible for it. Well written and very clever in the way the story was structured. I really enjoyed being on the journey with the characters in the story in order to work out what was going on.

#3 - Chilled by Death 5*
Stacey Carter had lost several friends in a tragic accident and so had become a loner, just focussing on her career with the dead. She knows she needs to pull herself together and get past it but her job is not a conversation starter. When her brother finally succeeds in coaxing her back to the same mountain for a holiday to help her heal, she realises he is right - it is finally time for her complete the healing process and move on with her life. Royce is a long time friend and best friend with her brother George. He wants to be so much more with Stacey and is thrilled that she is back and fighting her depression. After all, last time they were together he completely blew it and he is determined to grasp this second chance. However, when they are all out in the cold the atmosphere quickly shifts when they find a dead man in the snow which is then quickly followed by one of their own party going missing. It will take everything both Stacey and Royce have to make it through the nightmare of this holiday and stay alive as well as sane. It quickly develops such that the party members can't work out who to trust including themselves. Who will survive at the end of this nightmare holiday?

This was a really dramatic murder mystery all wrapped around the story or both Stacey's recovery and the relationship that may be rekindled between Stacey and Royce. There were many layers in the story with different paths that it could take. First I thought it was one person, then it was another, then there was the surprise as to who exactly was responsible. Very enjoyable and bizarrely quite good fun trying to solve the mystery of who was the killer in the end - in the end I was only partially right. Well written and very easy to read and understand.

Review: Cocky Carpenter by Maggie Mundy 5 of 5 stars

Cocky Carpenter (A Cocky Hero Club Novel)Cocky Carpenter by Maggie Mundy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Doctor Autumn Blake has an ex-husband and a stalker to escape, so a year working in Australia sounds like a great idea considering the cold English climate. It will be great to have a year to get her head together and so no romantic entanglements seem to be the best policy too. Next door neighbour Trend has lived a love then an leave them mentality for years until he sets eyes on Autumn Blake next door. She might just be the one to break through the tough layer he surrounds himself with. Is the sexual chemistry between them just that or is it something much more? Is one year long enough for them to forget their posts and grab a chance at love or will they lose it forever?

I loved this story which started off with sexual attraction which moved onto sexual chemistry and them even though they tried their best to deny it, ended up with love. I was definitely addicted to this story and found myself reading it faster and faster as I was dying to know what would happen next. I loved the role of the dog in their relationship and how he transitioned from being something that frustrated their attempts before playing a pivotal role in the story. Neighbour Dorothy was sweet and we could all do with a neighbour like that - although we would risk our waistlines! Well written and easy to read, this was a really enjoyable story that sweeps you into the story and slowly builds to the point that you become addicted to it. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Brock by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Brock (Hathaway House #2)Brock by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Brock Gorman had been a SEAL and was injured as part of a vehicle accident on the base in the US two months ago which caused major hip, back and shoulder injuries. The accident took away from him any chance of going on any more missions which were his everything. He has been at Hathaway House for more than a month and year there has been minimal improvement - after all - why should he try to get better when he has nothing to live for? Sidney Morning is a physiotherapist at Hathaway House and is returning after being away for nine months getting some specialised training. Having been told about Brock, she loves tough cases and just hopes he is not more than she can handle. After all, he is big, strong, stubborn as hell, and, absolutely gorgeous. He might not be making an effort to get better but Sidney is determined to get under his skin and force him to do all the work he needs to do to recover - she just needs to make sure she can make him understand that there are things that make life worth living. Sparks start to fly as they both start to fight each other and their own emotions. Can they be lucky and find their own healing and even love?

This was a great story that kept me captivated in the story of their battles of wills and emotions as they worked through all of the problems. I liked the turning points they seemed to pass through as part of their shared and separate journeys to enlightenment. Well written and very enjoyable.

Review: Twilight Crook by Eva Chase 5 of 5 stars

Twilight Crook (Flirting with Monsters Book 2)Twilight Crook by Eva Chase
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Saorsa lost her apartment and sense of security while helping the three sexy monsters who followed her home. However, the new lovers (as they now are) make her feel as if she got the better part of the bargain. Unfortunately, their boss Omen who they worked together to rescue, is not at all keen on humans - in fact all he does is test her and try his best to prove that she is not good enough to continue to help them. Too bad then that her mortal skills are far too useful to ignore - after all they have the group of monster torturing people to destroy so they can release all of their prisoners. Interestingly, as part of passing all of the tests set for her by Omen, they discover she has powers that no human is meant to wield which creates the question - if she is not human what is she and can she work out how to use this supernatural side of her nature? After all, this could be her only chance to avenge the murder of the woman who raised her as well as all the beings who have been murdered since. Only one thing seems certain - that she is not going to back down!

Wow - this certainly was an action-packed story that kept me hooked wanting to know what was going to happen next. It was nice to see the relationships between Saorsa and the guys developing and that it felt more two-way that them feeling that they owed her something. The new powers were interesting and I loved the way Omen tried to help her work out how to use them. The ending of this story certainly was dramatic and I can't wait to find out what happens next. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Killing Song by Luna Joya 5 of 5 stars

Killing Song (The Legacy, #3)Killing Song by Luna Joya
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Siren Zaida is the faerie queen's most lethal assassin, and so as her motto has always been that love kills, she just needs to keep everything strictly professional with the sexy human she is working with on the FBI's paranormal task force. She has one more kill to complete for the queen and then she is free, so surely she can keep her focus on something she has been working towards for centuries? Former Army Ranger Zimm in the past has lost everyone and everything, so he is cured of love - that is for losers. He just needs to keep his hands off the badass sword-wielding siren helping him track down a demon intent on killing. If Zaida and Zimm have any hope of a future together they need to catch the killer, outwit the queen and go face to face with an evil magical organisation - easy right? It all seems simple until the last hit the queen has ordered Zaida to carry out in exchange for her freedom is Zimm. Everything is about to get really complicated.

I loved this book. It was almost possible to touch the sexual chemistry between Zaida and Zimm. There were a whole load of dramatic moments there, and definitely, times when my heart was in my mouth just hoping and wishing that everything was going to turn out alright. I definitely read this book to the exclusion of normal life at times I was so addicted to the story. Well written and easy to read and feel, you will not regret reading this story. I just can't wait to see what is going to happen next.

Review: Seeds of Malice by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Seeds of Malice Seeds of Malice by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Botanist Fern Geller was charged with a murder she didn't commit, betrayed by a lover and shunned by all of her friends. So after being acquitted she ran from her past to continue to learn everything she can about poisonous plants doing a six-month contract at the Garden of Death. When she returns to the same conservatory she worked at before, the new boss is missing and several other men are dead so of course, she is put firmly back into the crosshairs. London Behring is an FBI agent and seeing Fern again he has no idea why and how she had ever been made a murder suspect. But then he also is wondering how she was acquitted of all of the charges too. There is also a mystery as to why she has come back to the scene of the crime at the perfect time to become a murder suspect again as well as how he can stay free of her charms as he is finding her impossible to exist.

This was a great story that had all the necessary elements in vast quantities - murders, mystery, drama, danger, a love story and underpinning much of it was psychic skills and abilities involving some of the main characters of this series. I loved the relationship between Fern and London and the way that their relationship built and developed. The mystery and the murders were a multi-levelled and complicated story that took some careful unpicking to work out and resolve. Well written and easy to read/understand, I loved the story and definitely ignored parts of real life so I could read more of this and find out who was behind the various murders. Contains a little sexual content.

Review: Into the Abyss by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Into the Abyss (Psychic Visions, #10)Into the Abyss by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Untrained psychic Tavika Bantrell has never had an easy life made worse when her entire family were killed by a serial killer who has never been caught. So she hides in plain sight working as a homicide detective while trying to get some answers so she can exact some revenge on the killer. PI and psychic hunter Jericho Sands contacts Tavi about a serial killer known as "ghost" which is interesting as she's also hunting him as part of her determination to catch the killer responsible for killing her family. Tavi seems determined not to accept his help nor his protection as he is convinced that she will be killed by "ghost" soon, but he finds himself unable to leave her alone. It appears that sparks fly between them and whenever energy flares it also attracts giving the killer an idea - as he is cleaning up and removing everyone who can stop him, he can take two out together if he goes for them. Can they defeat the killer and stay alive so they can explore what is growing between them?

I loved this story which featured an incredibly independent and stubborn woman, plus a man who will do everything that he can to protect her. I loved the way their relationship slowly built and that it came to a point when neither could (or wanted) to ignore it anymore. I loved working through the mystery as to who "ghost" actually was which completely surprised me at the end as it was not quite who I had decided it was. Well written and very enjoyable.

Embracing DarknessEmbracing Darkness by Tina Moss by Yelena Casale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Zoey had a hellish ordeal at the hands of evil and just wants to live a normal human life, but demons are haunting her every step mainly because there is a power growing inside her that she does not understand and cannot control. It seems if she wants to win her life back she will have to trust a fallen angel with a hidden agenda. Rafe has been at war with the hellspawn in Las Vegas for centuries and he just needs an edge to take the demon boss out. Zoey might be the answer but to gain her trust he'll need to use all of his powers of seduction in order to gain her heart - the problem being it might well mean losing his own. The stakes are rising and Zoey and Rafe need to put their faith in each other to heal wounds from the past as well as face the challenges of the present. Can they find their strength together to find peace even if it required embracing darkness?

This was a sweet short story that had the necessary ingredients of danger, lust and compromise. I liked the way Rafe started off with one agenda but finished with a completely different one (which gives hope for any relationship that they have in the future). It was well written and easy to read and understand.

Review: Blood Fae by Amber K. Bryant 4 of 5 stars

Blood Fae (Spirit Seeker, #2)Blood Fae by Amber K. Bryant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sybille is a psychic so when her best friend Devin is abducted by a strange fae woman she is determined to get him back even if she has to fight like hell to succeed. She is also trying her niece safe which also keeping her blood-thirster boyfriend Ellis at bay as he very openly wishes she would join him in the undead life. Either way, she will not let Ellis, evil-sprits or the barrier between worlds stop her from rescuing Devin. As part of all of this, she will need to travel between realms and risk starting a war. But the fae wants control over those people and places that Sybille holds most dear - Devin, his possessed niece and even the Earth. If she fails to stop the fae war, everyone she loves will become a war prize or end up as collateral damage.

This was a little slow to start, but having stuck with it, the story started to move and make much more sense as it became clearer who was who, what they were and the impacts of the various possible outcomes. I loved some aspects of the story although I really hope there is some way of reversing what happened at the end of the book as it was quite heartbreaking (and not the way I wanted it to end). Reasonably well written, it was easy to understand (even if it took a little bit of perseverance at the start). I'm now wondering what on earth is going to happen in the next book in the series.

Review: Ex Inferis by Nazri Noor 5 of 5 stars

Ex Inferis (Infernal Inheritance Book 0)Ex Inferis by Nazri Noor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Quilliam J. Abernathy is a fledgeling sorcerer, spoilt and has never worked a day in his life. After all, why should he? He is half-human and half-demon and the son of a demon prince, which has the perk of a palatial lifestyle of luxury and excess. But all of this comfort comes at a price - he is the Chosen of Asmodeus, destined to destroy the world and fated from birth to become the harbinger of hell. He has one last trial to complete which is the final obstacle to his ascent - just a deadly game of devils.

This was a great prequel to the new Infernal Inheritance series. It helped to set the scene and was very useful in explaining what he actually is and why he is like he is. Well written and easy to read and understand I am now looking forward to the series starting in earnest.
