Review: The Witch's Familiar by T.J. Nichols 4 of 5 stars

The Witch's Familiar

The Witch's Familiar by T.J. Nichols
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jude Sullivan reluctantly travels to a remote town to investigate a creature killing livestock, determined only to prove to the Coven he isn’t a threat. The last thing he wants is a familiar — or the attraction he feels toward Rob Mackenzie, the local man hiding the fact he’s a bear shifter. One impulsive kiss reveals they’re fated mates, complicating everything just as the danger escalates. Working together, Jude and Rob must stop the creature and figure out why fate paired two complete opposites.

I loved the unexpected intensity of that single kiss and how it instantly bound Jude and Rob together, even though neither of them was happy about it at first. Their reluctant connection made the unfolding relationship feel wonderfully tense and compelling. The mysterious creature was a great adversary, and I really enjoyed that it took both of their strengths (Jude’s magic and Rob’s shifter instincts) to take it down. The investigation had a smart, engaging feel to it. The politics within Jude’s coven added another intriguing layer, hinting that something deeper might be at play beyond the creature attacks. With danger, drama, and plenty of emotion, this story delivered a satisfying mix of paranormal tension and growing affection between two reluctant mates. This was an MM story with mature content.
