Leo, a widower craving quiet and distance, finds his life constantly disrupted by North — his brother’s best friend with a sunny smile and a habit of befriending messy crows. Leo insists he can’t stand him, yet he can’t seem to stay away. North’s warmth slowly makes Leo question whether he might have another chance at happiness, and despite all his caution, Leo finds himself on the verge of falling again.
I loved the undeniable pull between Leo and North, a connection that first showed up as pure annoyance on Leo’s part, even while North was simply trying to help. Their dynamic was warm, messy, and compelling, and I really enjoyed watching that irritation slowly shift into something deeper. The disabilities represented in the story were handled beautifully, clearly described and respectfully woven into the characters’ lives. There were a lot of emotions and feelings throughout, all written with care, especially as Leo fought his grief and North tried to handle his own family while gently encouraging Leo forward. An engaging, heartfelt read, and I’m genuinely excited to see where this series goes next in future books. This was an MM story with mature content.
