My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Beck Brackenstone, a sweet, family‑minded Grell, finally meets his life‑mate — Guild Master Beol — only to realise he has no idea how to court a powerful assassin or handle the secrets he’s been keeping. Beol, hardened by his past and burdened by responsibility, is instantly bewitched by Beck but struggles with deep‑rooted trust issues. They may seem mismatched, but they’re perfect for each other — and with the Crellic Queen and Humans First targeting Charybdis Station, they’ll need that connection — and their friends — to stop the looming destruction.
I loved the undeniable connection between Beck and Beol, even though both of them were awkward, guarded, and carrying secrets that made it harder for them to come together as mates. Beck’s secret was one of my favourite parts of the story, and I especially loved how openly and wholeheartedly Beol accepted it. Their personal struggles were woven into a wider plot full of danger and drama. The progress against the Crellic Queen really showed how much they’d learned from earlier skirmishes — and from the books they translated — which made the final confrontations feel earned. The whole story was packed with emotions, tension, and heartfelt moments, making their journey as compelling as the action surrounding them. This was an MM story with mature content.
