NEW RELEASE - Broken Dreams: A Paranormal Protector Tale (Heart of Stone series #3) by Demelza Carlton

#wolfpackreads #wolfpackbookbuzz #PNR #gargoyle #paranormalromance

He swore he awoke from his centuries-long slumber to be her protector…but this monster has a darker agenda, too.

Since her mother died, Rochelle has known nothing but bad luck. Barely scraping through her studies in between working two jobs, while living with her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend, if he’d only listen to her long enough to hear her say it’s over…it’s all she can do to keep it together.

Until she meets Ben, a fellow artist who helps her break free. But Ben has dark secrets of his own, and a past darker than Rochelle can imagine…

Buried after a botched ritual, Ben wakes as a gargoyle protector. The gargoyle curse compels him to protect Rochelle, but Ben also has his own mission: to find his lost brothers, hunt down the man who cursed them, and make him pay for his crimes.

Ben thought he’d already killed him, but this time, he’s going to make sure he sends the bastard to hell permanently…even if he has to summon the devil himself to do it.

FEATURED FREE BOOK - Broken Chains: A Paranormal Protector Tale By Demelza Carlton

#wolfpackreads #wolfpackbookbuzz #PNR #gargoyle #DemezaCarlton #BrokenDreams #ParanormalProtector #paranormalromancereads #paranormalromancereaders

This Scottish gargoyle shifter says he's awoken from his centuries-long sleep to be her protector...

Shy librarian Catena likes her quiet life…until a huge naked man muscles his way into her house, insisting he's been woken from his centuries-long sleep to be her personal protector.

Catena's life is turned upside down when she's saved by a creature she's only heard about in books. If only her hero's rock-hard abs weren't actually made out of stone.

Tor has no memory of his past. All he knows is that he must protect Catena at all costs.

Can they unlock the dark secrets chaining them to the past, and forge a new future?

CAUTION: This is a steamy gargoyle shifter romance, so if you don't like your heroes hot, hard and protective, Tor and Catena's story might be too much for you.

Exerpt:

There! A shadow in the corner, behind the door. Just as huge as the one she'd seen outside, before he grabbed her.

He lunged forward, then stopped, in a sort of half-crouch that she realised was a bow, before he lifted his head to look right at her.

Moonlight darted through the window and wreathed his face, silvering his dark hair.

Yet when his eyes met hers, dark pools in the shadows of his face, something passed between them. It felt like…understanding.

Understanding that she'd imagined a man in her bedroom. She must be going mad.

Review: Wish: Aladdin Retold by Demelza Carlton 5 of 5 stars

Wish: Aladdin Retold Wish: Aladdin Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Princess Maram is the Sultans daughter and has been working a a courtesan softening deals for him. Aladdin just lives on the streets getting work when he can. When they meet there is some kind of spark between them and he vows to do whatever it takes to have her as his wife. He manages to steal a magic lamp with a genie inside bu instead of being the end of his troubles it is just the start. Can they get through everything and be able to marry or will disaster mean that Aladdin loses his head?

Lots of drama and excitement in this retelling of Aladdin. I liked the side of story as told by Maram and it was nice to have a couple of strong women in this tale set in a very male dominated world. Well written and very enjoyable.

Blow: Three Little Pigs Retold Blow: Three Little Pigs Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Portia is the eldest of triplets and Prince Rudolf has promised her and her sisters that he will protect them but he has to go back to his home country for a variety of reasons so has to leave them behind. After many changes she has to conquer her home which means he might lose her forever. When the wolf is at the door, who will win - love or war?

It was nice to read after the Appease story more about Rudolf and more about what happened to him. The story was well told and I enjoyed it right up until near the end when it didn't feel like the ending fit into the story completely. But i was an enchanting story in general and still very enjoyable. It had plenty of action and romance to enjoy.

Review: Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold by Demelza Carlton 5 of 5 stars

Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Princess Sativa was betrothed to Prince Reidar as a child so when her father promises her as a prize to any hero who can slay the dragon she decides to take matters into her own hand and set off to find him herself. Can she get over the sea and through all the barriers in her path to find him on her own?

I loved this story based on the Princess and the Pea fairytale. The story was quite charming and well told as the author described the characters, their thoughts, emotions and actions. I enjoyed the bravery of Sativa and the way she came through all of the adventures she encountered as part of her journey to find Reidar. As for his mother all I can say is what a total b*tch who deserved a lot more than she received after some of her stunts. Definitely recommended. You don't have to read the previous books in this series but there is a nice connection between the previous one to this one (Embellish: Brave Little Tailor Retold).

Embellish: Brave Little Tailor Retold Embellish: Brave Little Tailor Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

George lost a battle with a dragon and can't do it alone so advertises for an assistant. Melitta works as a royal tailor with her mother and longs for excitement and adventure and when she hears of the job opening jumps at the chance. Can they succeed at killing dangerous creatures or is the danger in their attraction for each other?

This was a charming story of a girls determination to have adventure and be taken seriously, and a shoemaker who had the ambition and will to make so much more of himself. It was well written and there was plenty of danger and drama as they worked their way through various dangerous situations whilst also trying hard to ignore the feelings that were developing. The ending was pleasant and there was a HEA even though the road wasn't always as smooth as the characters wanted.

Review: Fishtail by Demelza Carlton 5 of 5 stars

Fishtail Fishtail by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sven is a hot Mer man and is currently the leader of the Mer colony in the Complex. Life seems smooth until a dead body is found in the fish tank in his shop which then makes him the prime suspect in the murder case. The investigators finding the killer are Violet (a succubus) and Minali (a human) who seems to have already decided it was him. Even worse the rest of his community seem to be ready to give up on him and let him be charged with murder. In desperation he decides to find the killer himself. Can he find the murderer or will he have lost everything?

A great story in The Complex world with another set of characters joining the characters we have already met. We got some more explanation of the history of the Mer race and that helped to understand their abilities better. Nicely told and everything was well written and easy to feel and understand the thoughts and emotions of the characters. A must read if you enjoy this world and the stories set within it.

Silence: Little Mermaid Retold Silence: Little Mermaid Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Margareta is a mermaid and she had saved Prince Erik from a shipwreck some years ago. In the intervening years she had agreed with the Master of Beacon Isle that she will save his sons from a curse by staying silent. However when Prince Erik appears having been searching for her she is limited in her communication with him by her vow of silence. Can she still communicate with him without words and can they come to the right conclusion for them both?

Nice retelling of the Little Mermaid. I liked the emotional turmoil that both were going through as part of the story and felt I could feel their thoughts and emotions well. Definitely a great read for when you want to just sit and enjoy yourself.

Review: Dance: Cinderella Retold by Demelza Carlton 5 of 5 stars

Dance: Cinderella Retold Dance: Cinderella Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mai goes to war as boy (even though she is a woman) in order to avoid disgrace for her father's household and her witch stepmother. All she has with her are the armour she is wearing and her mother's red shoes. Prince Yi is the best swordsman in the land and has no interest in marriage, however his father demands he look for a wife after the current war is complete. Mai needs to both win the war and Yi's heart if she is to have happiness in the future.

This was a great story and retelling of Cinderella. It might be book 3 in a series BUT it can be read stand alone. It was well written and far enough away from the original that it kept interest and had surprises in the plot even though we all knew what the very end would be. It was very well written and I could definitely feel the emotions felt by the characters in the story.

Awaken: Sleeping Beauty Retold Awaken: Sleeping Beauty Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rosamond and some of her entourage are struck down with a mystery sickness after attending a wedding at a neighbouring kingdom. She cures her companions but has no knowledge as to how to help herself.

Lord Siward goes hunting but stumbles upon a ruined building and accidentally wakes a beautiful woman within it. He then and realises his holiday has ended. He has a kingdom in trouble but keeps getting lost in her mesmerising green eyes. He also suspects she holds the key to solve the kingdom's problems.

I really liked this story. It was a clever retelling of Sleeping Beauty which had enough of a twist that although I knew it would have a HEA it was still nice to see how they got to there and how the kingdom would be saved. As usual it was well written and carefully thought out.

Enchant: Beauty and the Beast Retold Enchant: Beauty and the Beast Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When she was young and inexperienced the enchantress Zuleika is made to cast a curse by King Thorn. She then fled the wicked King and went around the world helping those who needed her the most. Then her merchant father lost a ship containing a valuable cargo and in her search for it she found herself on an enchanted island with a ruler who has been affected by one of the most powerful curses she has ever come across. He might be a good guy who fights with pirates (although thanks to the curse he does look very beastly) and she might be determined to cure this curse, but she is really not sure she is able to do so.

This was an enchanting retelling of Beauty and the Beast which had it all - someone wicked, someone pure, someone cursed and someone beautiful. It was carefully told with everything well described and with nice twists in the tale to keep you on your toes.

Nightmares of Caitlin Lockyer Nightmares of Caitlin Lockyer by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Six months ago, 23 year old Nathan's sister Allegra was brutally murdered. Now he has set aside his philandering ways and is only focused on revenge against her killers. Late one night Nathan finds himself on the same beach his sister's mutilated body was found only he finds another tortured girl - and she is still alive. After saving Caitlin's life he becomes both a suspect and the only person who can protect and calm her - can he dig into her memories to find the people that did this?

Wow - this is different to the usual books I have read from this author. It's definitely a thriller of a story which twists and turns until towards the end everything becomes clearer only to get mysterious ready for the next book. This was well written and quite enjoyable.

Review: Halcyon by Demelza Carlton 5 of 5 stars

Halcyon Halcyon by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Allie is sick of war and grief so has signed on as a maintenance worker for the Complex hoping for a lasting peace between the Metas and Humans. However she is also on an assignment from the Lorn government to monitor the Complex for a suspected saboteur.

Galen is the only survivor of the historic Poseidon shipwreck. He only has thoughts of vengeance on the siren Halcyon who is the Meta (in fact a Mer) who in his mind, killed more humans than any other Meta during the war (including his parents). He has been reliably informed that Halcyon is on Lorn so he is determined to kill as many Mer in the Complex as necessary until his parents' murderer is dead.

I loved this story. It was well written and had enough plot twists to keep you on your toes as you read it. I can also relate to the Meta's love of chocolate.

Review: Name Your Demon by Dima Zales 5 of 5 stars

Name Your Demon Name Your Demon by Dima Zales
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is an anthology of some first books in several series as well as stand alone books. If nothing else this is a bargain compared to the combined price of the books.

The Thought Readers by Dima Zales
Darren has a unique ability - he can go into his own personal version of reality into something he calls "the quiet" and he can then explore his surroundings while everyone else stays still. He thought he was unique until he sees another person - a girl. This how he learns that he is a Reader and is not as unique as he thought.

I loved this story. It had lots of action and drama. Everything was written well and when it ended I just needed to know what happens next.

Vengeance Be Mine by Louisa Lo
Megan Aequitas is the first ever hybrid between a vengeance demon and a trickster. She is trying really hard to keep her trickster half under control and concentrate on the co-op program she is doing at the University of Demonic Studies. She finds a plot to unleash a very fundementaist force that means that most creatures would be deemed too unworldly to exist. Can she balance her sides well enough to save everyone?

I quite liked this story but it got a bit manic and weird in places.

Secrets of the Hollows by Nicole Morgan
Xavier Currington is the leader of the Hollows and lurks in Los Angeles' crime riddled streets. Elizabeth Hawthorn has escaped the life of her abusive step-father and is working as a waitress while living in a dive of a motel. Xavier sees Elizabeth and is drawn by her beauty and innocence. Can he save them both from danger from different directions and can they have a chance at happiness?

I loved this story. It was a little slow to start as it explained the background but it was then an enchanting mix of love against the odds, demons and bad people who needed to be stopped.

Discern by Andrea Pearson
There is to be a university-led expedition and there is a competition among the undergraduates to be involved. Austin is talented and seems the obvious choice, but there is also Nicole. She struggles to control her magic and needs advice and encouragement from her friends and professors. Who will win the competition to be included and will this trip of a lifetime be their last?

This story was fast paced and had lots of action, adventure and magic. Oh there may be some romance in it too. This is the first book in a series and you may well want to read the rest after finish this one - I certainly did.

Wings of Hope by Pippa DaCosta
Mammon is the Prince of Gree and has the services of a half-human, half-demon called Muse for three nights from her ruthless owner Da'mean. During that three night period Mammon gives Muse hope for freedom in her soul and although demons are harsh a violent Muse has a more formidable weapon - humanity.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the ones up to now and I'm not sure why. The writing was good and I understood what was occurring it just didn't gel with me.

Angel Vindicated by Viola Estrella
Abigail is a Demon Control Agent is tainted by thing she had with half-breed demon Simeon Keller five years ago. She has avoided him ever since but the stain of it is still on her character. A demon rebellion is threatening the existence of Angels and she is forced to trust him to help her stop it.

This was a nice story which had drama and a bit of romance. I felt so sorry for Simeon at times.

Feral by Laxmi Hariharan
Maya feels that she doesn't fit even though she loves Luke she needs to go and find out about her roots so she can be happy with him. She travels into the city and gets a job while investigating her birth family. Will she meet someone else or will she find herself and come home to Luke?

I really enjoyed this story. The situations and emotions were well described and done with enough detail and gravitas

Tutoring the Wolf by Jacqueline Sweet & Devon March
Cassie Blake is studying at the Penrose Academy of Magical Excellence and just has to keep her grades up and she can then have her dreams come true upon graduation (including marrying her handsome and successful fiance). However she is forced to be a tutor to werewolf Malcolm Sheppard who would rather live like a rock star than study. Even worse is how he looks at her and the effect that has on her.

This was a lovely story and I really liked the ending.

Wolves: I Bring the Fire Part 1 by C. Gockel
Amy Lewis is travelling to her grandma's house but is being chased by something bad. Loki is in a prison cell but has no idea what he did that was wrong. Amy and Loki need to join forces to outwit those that would stop them. Loki is also trying to remember something but can't quite get it (but knows it is important).

I didn't enjoy this very much - it was a bit too chaotic for my tastes. It was well written just not in a style that I enjoyed.

Soul Ties by LJ Swallow
Ava retrieves souls from demons and this should be just like the others. However Kier is a Nephilim (half angel half demon) and very good looking. A human called Dahlia also has a strange hold over him so Ava needs to get to the bottom of that. Having discovered what happens to the returned souls Ava finds herself in the middle of a battle between good and evil (with lots of blurred lines). What will she choose (and bare the consequences) - betray Kier or join him in the fight?

I liked this story - it had lots of drama and excitement as well as mystery and romance added in.

Romancing the Null by Tina Gower
Kate Hale is fateless so statistics are her profession. She has finally made it to the Accidental Death Predictions Department but an oracle has delivered a death prediction and insisted she help him to solve it. Latent werewolf Ian Becker is the police liaison assigned to her department and is Kate's only hope. However he is a loner with a dodgy past. If Kate can't solve this before it is predicted to occur she'll lose her job and have the blood of an oracle on her hands/conscience.

I absolutely loved this story. It was well written and had me hooked pretty much all through the story. As this is the first story in the Outlier Prophesies series I need to get the next one now to know what happens next!!

Crimson Shadow: Noir by Nathan Squiers
Xander watched his abusive step-father murder his mother when he was a boy and has been trying to kill himself ever since but is always denied that relief. He is then faced with a choice between a continued miserable life as a human or continuing his lineage and becoming a vampire prodigy. He might have a little support but is this new life any easier than his old human one?

I liked some parts of this story but others were a little too dark for me but overall it was enjoyable.

A Touch of Darkness by Yelena Casale & Tina Moss

Review: Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton 4 of 5 stars

Maid for the Rock Star Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Audra is a maid in the Romance Island Resort and fully focused on her job before she tries to get an internship doing her dream job. She can handle the customers, their demands and wishes, and is very mindful of the rules to have no relationships with guests nor staff.

Jay is a rock star and used to getting what he wants, when he wants it, whether that be service, sexual favours or anything else. Jay is shocked to find that Audra is not interested in having sex with him and repeatedly says no (something he is not used to)

A lovely romantic story about the spoilt rock star and the maid who is dong everything she can to have a better life. I liked the twist of first one caring for the other and then for it to switch around to being the other way around. Very pleasant read.
