Review: Real Men Romance by Celia Kyle 4 of 5 stars

Real Men Romance (First in Series Paranormal Shifter Boxed Set)

Real Men Romance by Celia Kyle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great introduction to these 4 series.

His Fiery Kiss - 5*

Journalist and panther shifter Elissa Malkin has always lived her life on the straight and narrow even if her father has not. So she is very distressed to realise that thanks to him she has unwittingly become the getaway driver for a cat burglar friend of his. Then her boss assigns her to report on the Wildridge Security company which is the company tasked with finding the burglar! Dragon shifter Ragan DeFever is relieved when he is given something real to do instead of his normal role of sitting behind a desk and when he has to babysit a hot reporter too what's not to like? He just can't wait to cut his teeth on this case and solve it for real - the fact that the reporter makes his heart blaze with endless flames is a bonus. However, it soon appears that all is not as it appears and Elisa is actually a wanted woman in more ways than he expected - how is she going to get out of this and how can he move past this?

This was a dramatic and sweet story that had lots of action and in the end, everything seems to have finally worked itself out for the best. Well written and easy to feel and understand I read this book faster and faster as I became hooked on the story and just needed to know how it was going to end. Contains some sexual content.

Real Men Howl - 3*

Human Lucy Morgan left Ashtown, Georgia 10 years ago planning never to return but now she is back until she meets shifter Mason Blackwood who wants her even though he is delusional and thinks he is a werewolf. Mason is not sure how much longer he has as alpha of the Blackwood pack as he needs a mate to balance him - then he meets Lucy and realises that she is his mate and is determined that nothing will keep them apart - there is just one complication - the pack's deadliest enemy is determined to kill her before he can claim her.

This was a nice shifter story with the drama of the pack enemy and the hesitancy of Lucy to the belief that shifters existed and of being claimed. Mason was a really good guy who was very patient and was determined not to rush her no matter how it affected him. I found Lucy a little strange but at least she made the right choices for both of them in the end. Easy to read. Contains some mature content.

Witch in Charge - 3*

Witch Kelly Holloway likes a good time and so her coven added an extra year onto her wardship and so she is surprised when she finds out she has inherited Hollow House. But then she realises that it is not all fun as she has to take in two roommates - a snarky vampire in the basement and a new boss who doesn't find her tardiness charming. Plus the sentient house is hell-bent on thwarting her love life. Then it gets weird when the gargoyle statue that she has been messing with for months turns into a hot man called Ronun who is not impressed with her considering all the fun outfits she has dressed him in. But the house likes him. Kelly's current problem is that she needs to find her family's missing spellbook so she can figure out how to rein in the house, impress her boss and break the curse that turns Ronun to turn to stone for half of the day.

Wow - Kelly was so focussed on the fun I was amazed that she could actually keep breathing at times! Ronun was a seriously hot guy who was also seriously into Kelly too. I liked their love story and the complication of the curse. The ending was great and I loved the way that everything ended although they did have to get through a number of trials and complications to get there. Easy to read and understand. Contains some mature content.

Vampire Seduction - 4*

In this short story, vampire Alena Falkov is stuck working at a lower level while she attends Othercross University’s esteemed law school. She has a timekeeping issue and then she catches the scent of her BelovedlmHe is currently on trial and whilst he is being presented as guilts is actually falsely accused of attempted murder. Can she fight against the establishment and get him off? What will that mean for both of their futures?

I enjoyed this story and the fact that even though she had to think very fast and act just as quickly she was able to do everything she could in order to get the HEA that she deserved. It was interesting to read about all the politics in the vampire clans and the effect on some of the members. Easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Review: Mates of the Kilgari Boxed Set by Celia Kyle by Athena Storm 3 of 5 stars

Mates of the Kilgari Boxed Set (A Scifi Alien Romance)

Mates of the Kilgari Boxed Set by Celia Kyle by Athena Storm
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A great value boxset that will transport you into new worlds, with hot aliens, fated mates, battles and the possibility of a future together.

Rescued by the Alien Pirate - 2*
Varia woke up from cryostasis as a prisoner but she has no idea what she did to become one. It appears that she is not alone in there as they are a hundred other women and they also have no idea what they did and why they are there. Even worse, they appear to be in a dark and dirty cargo hold on a spaceship. Then out of the darkness comes someone to rescue them in the form of a horned and golden-skinned alien called Solair. He gives them food, shelter and the promise of safety - in return, it appears he wants Varia. However, it appears that the people who took the women want them back, and they are powerful so the only thing stopping them is Solair. Seems what he wants he keeps - and that now includes Varia. Will everything work out for them all?

The summary of this book read really well, but I have to be honest and say I struggled with it. Varia was such a moaner and never satisfied that it soon became very boring and I started to switch off. There were still good elements of the story with the exchange of information about the Kilgari race and the explanation of the whole mate concept, but the constant moaning was just too much in between all of that interesting content. I don't think I will be reading any more in this series every though Celia Kyle is an author.

Treasured by the Alien Pirate - 3*
Lamira is one of the humans that were branded as traitors for no reason and is on the Kilgari ship and she was starting to lose hope until former Hael Hound and mercenary Grantian who has promised to protect her. Suddenly she feels perfectly safe and at home when she is with him. Can he really protect her and can they find out more about why she was in a pod and where it came from?

I found some aspects of this story boring and some were interesting and so overall it was just ok. It was easy to read and understand the plot, the characters and what they were trying to achieve. I did like the way that Lamira tempered hard man Grantian. Contains sexual content.

Charmed by the Alien Pirate - 3*
Ilya is one of the humans on the Kilgari ship and she thinks of herself as a greaser girl from Novaria as she is never happier than when doing something to an engine. Alien pirate Swipt says she is his fated mate which she is willing to consider as he is different and challenges her thinking - something that she really needs. The original kidnappers are not giving up and are determined to get the human women back. Determined, Ilya wants to go after them and Swipt is just the man to help her.

I enjoyed this story of how Ilya and Swipt confirmed that they were mates as well as progressed the search for information about the people who were after the human women. It was a fun ride for some of the story but it also meant that there was so very sad news too. I loved the relationship between them both and they were both more able to problem-solve together and not on their own. Easy to read and understand. Contains sexual content.

Hunted by the Alien Pirate - 3*
Human Fiona is lusting after Kilgari warrior Montier because she can't stop looking at his broad shoulders, big arms and amazing abs. However, as they are in constant danger from the original people who kidnapped her there is never enough time to swoon after him. They also have no idea who it is who wants the human women or why. Then Montier finds something that could help to explain the who and why and so they gamble on finding answers no matter the danger. Recognising that Montier is her mate both Fiona and Montier will fight with everything that they have to keep each other safe.

I really enjoyed this story and it was great to find a little bit more about who was after them and why. As usual, there was plenty of action and fighting as they all worked to stay safe and avoid or minimise losses. I loved the way that they both respected each other's intelligence and was able to rely on each other when the chips were down. Easy to read and understand. Contains sexual content.

Tamed by the Alien Pirate - 3*
As far as Thrase is concerned love is not real - it is just a chemical reaction. All around her human women who are also her friend are falling for the Kiligri warriors but it must just be biological impulses. Yes she watches Zander and her heart skips a beat but it is just lust and nothing more. As their enemies are still as determined to get the crew of the ship plus the human women, Thrace and Zander as great friends who are the perfect couple to go and investigate it further, but during their adventures, it becomes harder as it becomes clearer that Zander is her mate and that there is something much deeper than lust between them - suddenly she is convinced and realises that she was wrong all along.

I enjoyed this story where Thrase was able to do some great undercover work and think on her feet to help get more information for them all. It was also interesting to understand more about who and what was behind all of this situation. Easy to read and understand it was great to see that Thrace had to change her mind. Contains some sexual content.

Seized by the Alien Pirate - 3*
Kiligari warrior Kintar was shaped by war into a soldier and thanks to his hard past his eyes just speak of loss and sadness. He just punishes himself and believes that there is no way he could deserve love let alone a mate. Human Marion knows that Kiligari is hers but she just needs him to be more positive in order to recognise that the fates are not blaming him for anything in the past and are instead rewarding him with a mate. Instead, all he can focus on is protecting her even if it would be with his last breath. Can they progress their need for information and found a way to clear the human women and their mates or will they be defeated and Kintar throw away his chance at happiness with Marion?

I enjoyed this story which covered a lot of Kintar's past as well as Marion's. Throughout it all they found a way to work together and for Kintar and Marion to come together as mates so that they would have a joint future full of happiness. I enjoyed the discoveries that they made as well as the battles that they had to gain them. Fun to read and easy to understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Loved by the Alien Pirate - 4*
The Ancestral Queen's crew and their captain Solair had no idea when they rescued human women that they were finding their mates. As they learn to live together, crush villains and grab loot, and start a family they realise that their biggest challenge is more likely to be parenthood. They take one final voyage and that involves an ageing archaeologist but they could make a discovery that could shake the world - can they survive, clear everything up and get the HEA they all deserve with their mates and children?

I really enjoyed this story which added new drama and danger but also closed off a few unanswered questions. I loved that Lokyer got his own starring role in this story and that he also had the chance at happiness that he so desperately wanted. There was a lot of new technology and also a lot of ancient knowledge in this story. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Accidental Alien

Accidental Alien by Celia Kyle by Erin Tate
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Human Joyce is a secretary but when Doshian commander Kede Tria sees her he abducts her and takes her to his battleship. He is overbearing and everything she never knew she wanted but he is only the one who can save her when an accident brings her towards inevitable death. Joyce was insufferable with her constant arguing and basic ungratefulness for some of the opportunities and kindness showed to her - I have to be honest and say that I pretty much hated her throughout the entire book. Kede Tria was Joyce's lifemate but in his own right he is one of the most feared Doshian warriors and he will do pretty much anything to keep her safe and with him.

I really enjoyed the story of Kede, the council, the various warring factions and the final solution. What I did not enjoy was Joyce's personality, her constant arguments, her ungratefulness, which just wore on me to the point I was close to not finishing the book several times. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Dashing Through the Stars by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 4 of 5 stars

Dashing Through the Stars Dashing Through the Stars by Erin Tate by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tave fa V'yl-Zeret is the Prince of the Ujal and will do anything to make his mate happy even if that is creating a human holiday that he doesn't understand (How could a single person really circle the globe and deliver toys to every child?). However, this year the concern is not whether he has bought enough toys for his own child but the alien spaceship that has just entered the Earth's orbit. There is an intense debate as to if they are friend or foe. Either way on Earth there is a humbug somewhere who is willing to go to any length to stop any peace talks between the three races - including kidnapping Ujal royalty and assassination. Can they sort all these problems out, not have war break out and have the Christmas that the young are all looking forward to?

This was a nice short story that encompassed the Christmas spirit as races came together in order to beat those who would destroy peace and cooperation between them all. I loved the way that we were introduced to the Preor and this then makes sense and introduces the start of a whole new series based on the Preor race and how they find their own mates among the population of Earth. Well written, easy to read and understand. Contains just a little explicit sexual content.

Review: Rhal by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 4 of 5 stars

Rhal Rhal by Erin Tate by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cara Marte thinks that the Ujal are just normal folks that sometimes grow fins and scales. She knows that she wants Rhal fa Adar with his dark scales and dark eyes but he always keeps her at arms-length sharing pleasure with her but nothing more - it is obvious he wants her but he refuses to mate with her. When she discovers that his reasons were actually a lie, she takes her battered heart to the Intergalactic Mating Agency office to try and find her match but all she can think of is Rhal. Rhal fa Adar is not an ideal mate as he sacrificed his soul as the king's secret assassin and so he feels he cannot have Cara. However, when he discovers that she has gone to try and find a mate he realises that he just cannot lose her to another male and vows to be with her in some way whilst Cara is realising that she cannot have another and just hopes that he realises his mistake and comes around. The only problem with Rhal’s plan? An evil from his past appears on Earth and shatters the tenuous bond they share. Now he prepares for the hardest battle of his life—the one for Cara.

This was a lovely story that had lots of betrayal, lies, pride and strength as it becomes more apparent exactly how the Ujal society works and who has the power. I loved the way that both of them were suffering at different points in the story and how that then meant that the other would move heaven and earth in order to stop that hurt. Deep down this is an intense love story that has some major pushes and pulls but in the end, it all goes in the right direction. There were definitely some fairly emotional moments but it was still very enjoyable. Well written and easy to read. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Whelon by Celia Kyle by Anne Hale 3 of 5 stars

Whelon (Dragons of Preor #12)Whelon by Celia Kyle by
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sasha Dane is a local news celebrity and her mother is fixated on hatred for the Prior and so is determined to use Sasha's fame to advance that agenda. Her mother thinks that the Knowing is a form of coercion and that their natural hold of human women needs to end. So Sasha went to Preor Choosing Station Tau in order to gather as much dirt as possible but that didn't go to plan because Preor Healing Master Whelon was drawn to one choosing session and that was when both Sasha and Weldon experienced the Knowing. Sasha has to deal with the difference between what her mother insisted was true and what she is now experiencing (which are completely different). They are not an evil and woman stealing race but instead, they cherish women and would love them completely. She also realises that they care for all human beings when she witnesses them trying to help people that they discover are not living the pleasant life they thought they were. Now Wheldon has to realise that Sasha has obstacles to clear in order to be with him that only she can conquer. Can Sasha overcome her mother's teachings and embrace her Prior mate or will she deny the mating and curse them both to a painful death?

I couldn't work out in my head how such an intelligent woman could believe the so-called facts that her mother was repeating. There were some really big parallels to the political situation in the US that I couldn't ignore. It was interesting to learn the effect of ignoring the Knowing and what would happen to both the Prior and the human. I loved the final conclusion although it was tortuous getting there. Contains a little sexual content at the end.

Review: Erun by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 5 of 5 stars

Erun (The Ujal, #4)Erun by Erin Tate by
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Widow Vanessa Walker with her daughter travels to Tampa, Florida to begin her new job at Ujal Station Tau. Then problems start has Tabitha is il and a sexy and demanding Ujal insists that she should not be raising her daughter as she isn't ill as such - she is in fact an Ujal child. Whilst Vanessa has the support of Ujal royalty, but only one person - one Purple and sexy Ujal male - makes her feel safe: Erun fa Arex. Erun earnt his place through fighting and the use of his trident to become the captain of the Principessa's elite guard. He had a rough upbringing on Ujal where he grew up as a child slave forced to fight for sport and others’ pleasure. He has plenty of mental and physical scars as well as the critical damage course by many growth hormone injections that mean he can no longer father children. He has never considered mating as he knew it was not acceptable to any female, but meeting Vanessa and Tabitha he realises that is exactly what he wants going forward - he just needs to be prepared to fight to the death to keep them. Can they be together?

This was a slightly unusual story in the series but that made it much more enjoyable as it involved much more complex emotions and showed that there should be no boundary to love and the need to care for those who are most dear to you. It was charming to experience and I was rooting for them all as the story developed. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Review: Dragons Of Preor; Volume One by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 3 of 5 stars

Dragons Of Preor; Volume One (Dragons Of Preor, #1To #3)Dragons Of Preor; Volume One by Erin Tate by
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A good value collection of books - the first three in the series:

#1 - Jarek - 3*

Dragon shifter and Prior Warrior Jarek sen Claron is 457 years old and is ready for his final flight into the skies. He has travelled to Earth as the War Master for the Prior third fleet and has decided that this will be his final assignment. He will help his fellow Preor to find human women as mates and will return home before the madness of loneliness takes over his mind. Everything changes the split second that he sees human Melissa, however, she was never registered as a mate hopeful and with the Knowing between them she should not be able to resist him, but she then does just that! Jarek really wants to giver her a choice but everything within him is screaming at him to just put her under his wing and mate her no matter what she says. However, he has some enemies circling him and so does not want to pull her into that situation. It seems that it is not popular among his kind that the son of a man who was a Preor mass murder should have a mate. Can he survive what is coming or will he die without having any more interaction with him?

This was an action-packed start to the series as Jarke fought for his life as those who were against him did everything in their power to rid the world of him. I felt very sorry for him as it is not great when the child has to pay for the sins of the father but I did find Melissa to be a very strange character. It seemed like she was very spoilt the way she kept running to the Ujal for help and their protection - something which jarred against the fact that she had had to be so strong and able to care for herself. I am just glad that she finally realised that fighting it was a pointless exercise and that her mate was being constantly severely injured as he tried to protect her and ensure that she was free of the men who were after him. Easy to read and understand, I would definitely read the next story in the series and just hope it was a bit more believable. Contains some explicit sexual content.

#2 - Taulan - 3*

Lana Cooper is really at rock bottom - she only has $100 left, has no job and her car has finally given up on her - all because of a guy. Her focus is on getting a job, but just the one walk along a beach changes everything - she ends up with a job but not what she thought - she is now the mate of a Preor dragon male. Taulan sen Pavon is anxious to return home to Preor as he feels he has to abandon his hopes to find a mate and go back in order to heal in the privacy of his aerie. He no longer feels worthy of a mate after his body was badly damaged in an explosion. But then he finds Lana and just her presence has initiated the Knowing for him. Can he live long enough to claim her and can she see past her father's prejudice in order to love him? There are still those Preor who despise the joining of humans and dragons and so will they both survive in order to find out if they have a future?

This was a dramatic story with plenty of twists and turns as they both fought both known and unknown forces in order to have the chance of a future together. I loved the way that they communicated and worked together as they came to know each other as well as the way that they overcame their problems. Contains some sexual content.

#3 - Kozav - 3*

Nurse Grace Hall is on duty when five Preor warriors are brought into the emergency room and the doctors do nothing. So Grace steps forward and because they look human she starts to work on them doing what she can to help. One warrior draws her attention with his teal coloured wings and pain glazed eyes has her torn between needing to touch him and healing him. When she finishes working on them she blacks out and knows nothing more. Kozav sen Aghin is the Primary Warrior of the Preor Third Fleet and is very weak when he wakes up on the battleship. Yes, he is healed but he feels as if something is wrong and then it hits him - he found his mate on Earth and she has been left behind to be alone and unprotected which is totally unacceptable. As he still carries guilt from the great conflict he is determined not to fail the curvaceous green-eyed woman who is his to cherish and protect. When someone attempts to take Grace from his life Kozav is prepared to do whatever it takes to get her back even if it means he has to kill one of his own kind. Can they have the future that they both want and deserve?

I liked this story which had lots of danger and drama involved right from the start. I loved the way that they had to settle into a relationship even though they both had the Knowing which was good to see. Grace was definitely sassy and took absolutely no prisoners which were great to see. Easy to read and very enjoyable. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Jarek by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 3 of 5 stars

Jarek (Dragons of Preor, #1)Jarek by Erin Tate by
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Review: Radoo by Celia Kyle 3 of 5 stars

Radoo (Dragons of Preor Book 13)Radoo by Celia Kyle by
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When the Preor came to Earth they had open arms and hoped to find their mates. However, many met them with a closed fist and hatred. Livvy certainly holds no love for the Preor race - their claims of coming in peace or working together for the good of both races don't ring true to her either. But when she is told that she is fated for a Preor Warrior, she knows in her heart that it is true. Radoo did not experience a choosing in the standard sense especially as he currently does most of the command duties of the Preor Third Fleet and believes he has no time for a mate. His world is rocked when he comes into contact with Livvy and is affected by the Knowing. But to find out that she hates him and everything he stands for, plus she is a member of the Resistance that will stop at nothing to rid the Earth of the Preor. How can Radoo change things when his mate is his enemy - can they ever be other or are they faced with a painful death?

This was certainly an interesting spin on the fated mate story and had many instances of danger and drama involving the resistance members. I liked the way that the story ended although I did not enjoy some of the content in between - I think I just grew a little tired of Livvy and some of her attitudes even though I could clearly understand the resentments and how they occurred. Some parts were enjoyable and well written, and some parts were just irritating and monotonous. Contains some sexual content.

Review: Vende by Celia Kyle by Anne Hale 4 of 5 stars

Vende (Dragons of Preor #11)Vende by Celia Kyle by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dawn had suffered a traumatic brain injury in childhood and so had led a sheltered life with her family. She had a passion for botany but she had never had the chance to pursue any of her dreams in life. That all changes when she meets the Prior and they need the kind of help that only she can provide. Prior Warrior Vende is completely weary of overseeing the engineering infrastructure for everyone while his fellow warriors spend time with their mates - especially after his lack of success finding his own. Then he meets Dawn and finally understands the full power of the Knowing. Can Vende and Dawn face insurmountable odds and find a happily ever after plus save the Prior race from extinction?

This was a sweet story where there were lots of interesting new side effects to the Knowing that was very welcome. I love Dawn and how she was so carefree and trusting although I was quite afraid for her when she went walkabout. I loved her unique talent which I would love for people to have today. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains a little explicit sexual content near the very end of the story which was very sensitively written.
