The Spellcaster's Trap by C.L. Bright by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Shifter Juliette is 17 and destined to become the leader of the Heathergate Refuge when her father is no longer in charge. Living in the refuge she has never had to worry about being hunted by a spellcaster nor being enslaved as a familiar by one of them. However, when someone betrays her everything changes and when she wakes up she is caught in a spellcaster's trap and with her wristband missing she has no way to identify herself if she were able to get back home. Then she meets warlock Dante from the Azuredale hunter family and he becomes a surprising ally. When he finds her, he cannot deny the strange connection that exists between them. Will Dante be able to help Juliet return to the Heathergate Refuge to take her revenge on the traitors who left her for dead or will their unlikely alliance end in tragedy for them both?
I really enjoyed this start to the series which was suitably dramatic and very much a twist on the Romeo and Juliette story. I loved the relationship between Dante and Juliette and the way that they soon started to rely on each other. Dante's siblings were a very interesting and useful addition to the story. The ending of the book was a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm dying to know what happens next. Well written, easy to read and understand.
