Review: Malcolm: A Wolf’s Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance by Monica La Porta 4 of 5 stars

Malcolm: A Wolf’s Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance Malcolm: A Wolf’s Hunger Alpha Shifter Romance by Monica La Porta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Malcolm is alpha for the Sunrise Pack and the mayor of Angel’s Pass and is also getting over a divorce. Julia catches her boyfriend cheating on her in her own flat/their own bed and so decides to cry for a short while and then go visit her best friend who lives in Angel's Pass. Can Malcolm cope with all his duties including the inauguration of his microbrewery when the Wolf's Hunger strikes? Can he and Julia survive through his determined ex-wife who won't let go, a group of renegades and a magnetic attraction that strikes at first scent and cannot be denied?

This is a lovely story in the Wolf's Hunger series of books that had all the necessary ingredients of a strong alpha, a mate that was hiding in plain sight, a vengeful ex and renegades. Well written it was a very enjoyable light read that definitely had the power to keep me hooked to find out what was going to happen next.

Feigran used to be normal with a family, home and sister but has since transformed into Terian a high ranked seer in The Org who has the aim to free seers and enslave humans instead. Quay is his subordinate and they meet while working in Brazil. All is well until the mission takes a very unusual twist where Quay suddenly realises his ambition has put him in a situation that is way over his head. Who will survive this?

Wow - it took me a while to get my eyebrows to go back down after I got to the end of this book. It definitely helps in some ways to be familiar with the Bridge and Sword series before reading this book, but I do think it could be read stand alone - you just won't understand some of the connections and relationships between some of the characters. There were many parts of the story that I loved but I'm loathe to list them as I feel it wold spoil the book. What I can say is I now completely understand why Terian is the way he is and why he has certain obsessions. Well written it was a great read that I was completely addicted to (and was a little disappointed to get to the end of).

*** Please be aware that there are some very dark themes in this book and it does feature a little M:F and a lot of M:M sexual content as well as scenes involving torture and bondage.

Review: A Death in the Family by Maggie Mundy 5 of 5 stars

A Death in the Family A Death in the Family by Maggie Mundy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Annabel Larch vows to find her aunt's killer but in order to do that she needs the help of WW1 veteran Isaac Pennington who is disfigured and could also be a suspect himself. Set in the 1920's this story has a paranormal twist and involves Brazilian artefacts, opium dens and bizarre cult worship Can they find the killer before they are murdered themselves?

I loved this story which was a great mixture of a murder mystery, a touch of paranormal and a sweet romance story all put together into a great story that kept me reading faster and faster wanting to find out what would happen next. This was well written and a great introduction to the series which I am now looking forward to reading more of going forward.

Review: Flock by KJ Bauer 4 of 5 stars

Flock Flock by KJ Bauer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Within London there is a secret organisation called "The Office" where they look after unworldly knowledge and investigate crises that appear. However at the book start there is one of the most important crises - they are out of chocolate digestive biscuits!! Amy and Fletch are bickering when they make a discovery which sets in motion events from a city-wide upsets, a riot and fallout from a powerful enchanted stone. They team together with workmate Tashta and their boss Una as they investigate paranormal mysteries, conspiracy theories and stolen contraband all connected to the stone. Can they survive a hidden agenda and shadowy foe that could prove lethal?

I found this book hard to get into, but having stuck with it I found it an enjoyable read that was both clever and funny. I'm sure you will soon have "feck" as your new swear word as you get used to the language used in this book - which is not bad but definitely amusing. The banter between the characters was really amusing and very enjoyable - the book is almost worth reading just for that! Loads of cool magic, mystery and drama it was a fun read. Well written and very enjoyable.

Review: Jackson by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Jackson Jackson by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jackson is driving back to base when he has to pull over as his radiator overheats - the following events will become a murder mystery with the amazing side effect that he will meet his soul mate. He is sent an army mechanic from the convoy who is smart and very capable - she finds the radiator has been shot with a bullet which then triggers a chain of events that involves more bullets flying (some close to them both too) and bodies dropping. Can they stay alive while passion builds between them and find out who is behind all of this before they become victims themselves?

I loved this story which can be read stand alone even though it is part of a series. There was lots of drama, excitement and build up as they worked through the mystery and also realised that they were meant for each other. Jackson and Deli made a cute couple that worked so well together. Their skills seemed to complement each other as did their personalities. If you like romances involving a SEAL finding his soul mate this one is definitely for you.

Review: 1974: The Seven Book Four by Sarah M. Cradit 4 of 5 stars

1974: The Seven Book Four 1974: The Seven Book Four by Sarah M. Cradit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

By 19774 the Deschanel siblings are exploring themselves and their own feelings more while doing their best to suppress their talents. They all struggled with growing up and the themes of being an adult and taking responsibility. They are doing many of the typical things as per the times so those involve the cars, events and even protests of that time (something readers will either remember or discover) and all accurately done which highlights the careful research done by the author. This book was certainly about all of the siblings but especially Maureen which gave some interesting insights into both her but also the make up of the family and some of the dynamics. There are some good links to the House of Crimson and Clover series which means that some of what happened there has a next context and makes better sense to me. Well written this was clear and easy to both read and understand. Works best if you have read the earlier books in this series.

Review: Midnight's Son by Nazri Noor 5 of 5 stars

Midnight's Son Midnight's Son by Nazri Noor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Darkling Mage Dustin Graves has a new problem when rifts in reality start appearing and abominations come from them putting the world into danger. It all points towards the awakening of the Eldest and Dust is going to need some powerful arcane power to stop them. To get that quickly he will have to offer himself to the dark and shadow entities known as the Midnight Convocation - the question is which member will receive his soul as payment?

There is a heightened level of evil, drama and danger in this episode of the series as Dust tries to hone his powers and save the world which trying to avoid the might of the Lorica. I loved the way the roles for some people he did not consider friend or allies became reversed at very unexpected moments which was a bit of a surprise to me as well as Dust. I loved that there were some suggested emotions which might come to the fore in later books (you will know what I mean when you read it). Everything was well written and suitably dramatic in all the right places. A great story that leaves me wondering what next for him?

Review: Wanton Wonderland by Eva Chase 4 of 5 stars

Wanton Wonderland Wanton Wonderland by Eva Chase

This is the third and final book in the Looking Glass Curse series. In this book Lyssa has a number of tasks tom complete it she wants to claim back Wonderland's throne from the current usurper queen. The citizens are either drugged and in a daze or have been altered in some way, make sure she has all the artefacts and knows how to use them, and complete the circle of love she has for the three extraordinary men by freeing one of them from captivity. Now this world is her home Lyssa needs to be prepared to fight to get it back.

This is a great final book in the series where we experience the final showdown between Lyssa and the usurper queen that she needs to overthrow. The relationship between Lyssa and her three lovers was strengthened in this book and she finally came into her own as she battled to overthrow the usurper queen. A great ending to the series that was well written and very enjoyable.

Annia Melcott is an enforcer and after some life challenges she goes to the Southern continent for some respite. She takes on a mission to escort two mage children and their guardian back to their ancestral home avoiding bandits. Can Annia avoid shamans, goddesses and vengeful ghosts and complete her mission.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a great mix of magic and mysticism as well as it was a treat to read another book in the Baine Chronicles World. It started well so I cannot wait to read how this new series develops and where it is gong to go. Well written and very enjoyable.

BEYOND THE WORLD BEYOND THE WORLD by T.J. Wolf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Una Waters and General Ashcroft go to Yosemite National Park for their honeymoon however it doesn't work out quite how they intended. He received a coded distress call so gets pulled away, then Una uncovers a UFO mystery and pulls in Jack Howser for help. Una and Jack are joined by members of the Explorers Club as they search for answers via abandoned campsites and ancient caves. They uncover an alien conspiracy that threatens the whole of humanity as they encounter pterosaurs and the military trying to stop them. Can they change perceptions and get to the bottom of the mystery?

This was a complex mystery that had many layers in the story as it built into a final conclusion. It was a little slow to start but I soon became addicted to the story and found myself reading faster as I needed to know what happened next. This is a great trilogy that will keep your attention to the very end. Well written and easy to understand.

Review: Broken by Night: a Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy by Jada Storm by Emma Stark 5 of 5 stars

Ace Bisset is a detective and a witch. She has 4 men that she loves a great deal but they are cursed and currently have to turn into something else at night. Time is running out for her to break the curse and they keep being distracted by new bad people committing crimes in the city. In this book there is no exception to that when Ace finds someone who has been watching her. Can she stop him and break the curse in the time she has available?

Wow this was a great final story in the series and had someone suitably evil come and put a major spanner in the works for Ace and the guys. They are going to have to trust each other and work together to try and handle this evil guy who has his own evil agenda. There was lots of passion, emotions and drama in this story which definitely lived up to my expectations of this book and more. I loved the way this story ended and the way the trust relationships between Ace and the guys was central and key to the solution. Well written it was a very enjoyable book to read and if you are new to the series and authors I suggest you give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Hunters and Prey: These Alpha Females Don't Need Saving Hunters and Prey: These Alpha Females Don't Need Saving by May Sage  by

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review based on:

Black Dreams--JC Andreijeski - 5*

Miriam's dreams start following her back into the real world, scaring the hell out of her husband, military-trained seer, Quentin Black.

If you have read one or especially both of the Bridge and Sword World and Quentin Black series by this author you will adore this story. It will give you closure on the former and a major development for the latter. I'm struggling with what to write without spoiling this story for the reader, so all I can say is OMG and WOW. Well written and clear/easy to understand this can be read even if you are not familiar with the series but you will get so much more from this if you have.

I'll add the other books as I read them.

Review: Thin Walls by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Thin Walls Thin Walls by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mercedes Whitier had always been a strong and capable woman until the shooting in a robbery of her club when she turned into a recluse but she is finally ready to take on the world. The think walls of her condo give her a perfect opportunity to start by complaining to her irritating neighbour about the screaming woman in his condo on a Sunday morning - however when he answers the door in nothing but his boxer shorts her life takes an interesting path involving a hot British guy, a crazy ex-girlfriend, an interesting new job and a mad person who seems determined to make her forget how strong and capable she really is.

This is a fun story on the periphery of the Reckless Release series. The was a skilfully told romance story that had me hooked and unable to put it down. I was entranced by the latest catastrophe to befall Mercy and her hot neighbour and the whodunit that was entwined into the story as I tried to work out who it actually way. I didn't guess it right. Well told and easy to understand and feel, it was a great story that made me want to know more about what happened next for everyone.

Review: Jager by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Jager Jager by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jager Hannover is a former SEAL who has finally recovered after his squad's truck drove over an antitank landmine several years ago leaving them all badly injured apart from Mouse who was killed. The group is chasing up clues to find out why only their truck was directed over that route and he ends up in Vail in Colorado trying to see Mouse's best friend. However he seems to have left the area leaving a trail of death behind including that of Jager's parents who was run off the road there. Widow and Police Officer Allison Monroe has not managed to move from the location after her fellow cop and husband died doesn't intend to get involved with Jager as she helps him with the murder of his parents and the missing guy who was Mouse's best friend but she finds the attraction between them impossible to deny. Then when they get a tip off that the missing man has travelled to Santa Fe to hunt badgers it becomes a mad dash to get there to seek answers and protect the other members of the until which includes Team Leader Badger.

This 7th book in the series was full of mystery, drama, excitement and some very passionate moments too. So many threads were pulled together as part of this story which also managed to include the meeting and developing relationship between Jager and Allison. It became addictive as the story unfolded and I was definitely reading faster and faster and I really needed to know what was going to happen next. Well written and very clear and easy to understand it was a great read. It helps if you have read other books in the story but I think you could get away with reading it stand alone.

Review: Acceptance by K.E. Osborn 5 of 5 stars

Acceptance Acceptance by K.E. Osborn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the story of Chains and Bex. In it we look at his early life and the friend he left behind before Bex and her family took him in. He still suffers dreadful nightmares and frustration This is definitely a clash between his past and the present where the ghosts of the past have to be tackled in order for him to find the possibility of the future that he wants. Can these two souls find their connection, Chains move on from his past and find acceptance with the woman he loves?

treachery, misery, and brutality. some treachery on the way, more misery than you can imagine any handling well and love that can conquer all. It was well told and the more disturbing parts of his past were sensitively told. I loved the way we saw a more sensitive side of Bex and seeing the sensitive side of Chains made him feel so much more human and real as a character. A great addition to the Chicago Defiance MC Series.

Review: A Vampire's Thirst: Treachery & Danger by Monica La Porta 5 of 5 stars

A Vampire's Thirst: Treachery & Danger A Vampire's Thirst: Treachery & Danger by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adrian and Lavinia have know each other for a year and have decided to celebrate by accepting an invite to a really exclusive party to meet other bloodmates organised by Victor Strong. However as soon as they arrive there, attacks start to happen and the relaxing vacation becomes a holiday from hell. Will they stay safe in all the madness or will something terminal put a dampener on the festivities?

This was a great story that showed eloquently the basic need of a vampire to protect their bloodmate and the way that can be in contrast with the strong women they have as a bloodmate - in this case a hybrid human/wolf shifter. It was dramatic all the way through and I loved the way it ended. Well written it was a welcome addition to the vampire's thirst series of books.

Review: The Blood Prince by Josie Jaffrey 4 of 5 stars

The Blood Prince The Blood Prince by Josie Jaffrey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this last book in the series, the Silver might have awakened but the Queen is a shell of who she was and Cam is determined t fix her by finding her missing son when he leaves for the Red. Rufus torments Julia but she has a plan to bring the Nobles to their knees using blood.

This was definitely an book through of drama, danger and excitement. As before the world building from the author is outstanding and that made the rest of the story gel together as a great story. Of the characters I feel the most empathy with Cam who does his best to do the right thing throughout the three books and this one is no exception. I wish I knew why I dislike Julia so much - she does nothing to make me feel comfortable with her - he just strikes me as a selfish person who seems to not care about anyone else but her agenda. Well written this was very enjoyable. I feel that the author could write more in this complex world she has created.

Review: Corpse in the Carnations by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Corpse in the Carnations Corpse in the Carnations by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Doreen Montgomery is a gardener and amateur sleuth who lives with her menagerie of animals (cat, dog and parrot) in the picturesque Kelowna, British Columbia. After being involved in two cold cases soon after she arrives in the area she is hoping to lie low until it is all forgotten by doing a tour of Carnation Gardens. However after witnessing a fight between a woman and her boyfriend she follows them out of concern and then hears gunshots. Can she solve the mystery of the body in the carnations and a very cold case of a missing boy which is connected to it? Can she solve them both while hiding what she is doing from neighbours, the media, Corporal Mack Moreau and her grandmother Nan?

I loved this story which was a little more edgier as she gained in confidence both with her new start in life and the skills she needed to solve a murder mystery. It gave a lovely insight into small town relationships and politics and how that can affect investigating something after a number of years have passed. I loved the cooking descriptions and the potential issues that she faced. A fun read that had me gripped as Doreen tried to solve the crimes, handle more in her new life and develop her friendship with Mack. Nan was just priceless naughty old lady with deep down a heart of gold. Well written, everything was easy to read and understand.
