Review: Love The Wine You're With by Mary E. Thompson 3 of 5 stars

Love The Wine You're With (Raise A Glass, #1)

Love The Wine You're With by Mary E. Thompson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Alyssa Wright is soon to leave for college but at 18 id determined to lose her v-card before she gets there. Ex-serviceman Jake Monroe lost his best friend who was like his brother and so he is in the area in order to fulfil his commitment and be there for his friend's widow and infant - he just needs to get a job first. When Alyssa runs into Jake she knows he is different and can't stop thinking about him. Jake knows getting involved with his new boss's niece is not a good idea but there is something about her that he cannot resist and as she is so determined he won't rush her but will see her even if it is only for the summer.

I enjoyed this story which was focused on the relationship between Alyssa and Jake. As it was just before she went to college I found her determination to lose her virginity a little strange as it should be something special and not something to just lose - so I was heartened when Jake handled it so sensitively. It was also good to see the way he was doing his best to handle the care for his friend's wife and how he really wanted to help her. Easy to read and understand I think everything was clear and sensitively written.

Review: Defended by the Alien Gladiator by Presley Hall 3 of 5 stars

Defended by the Alien Gladiator (Warrior Mates of Zivon #4)

Defended by the Alien Gladiator by Presley Hall
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Human Scarlett was abducted and finds herself the prize in a gladiator fight on Teneca which is won by gorgeous Zivonian and fellow slave Akos. She is terrified of him until he then unsuccessfully tries to rescue them both. Can he help them to escape again, can he keep her safe, and can they thwart their owner's plan to use them to breed warriors?

I enjoyed this story with shows how Scarlett and Akos met, their various trials, how they escaped and how they met up with his two brothers to have a chance at a future. It was easy to read and understand, plus it was good to see that with all of their problems they could find happiness as well as a future. Contains some mature content but mostly a well deserved HEA.

FEATURED NEW RELEASE - Nicky the Driver (Underboss Insurrection Book 2) by Cate C. Wells

#wolfpackreads #wolfpackbookbuzz #romancereads #mafiareads #books #NewRelease #DarkRomance #romancebookseries #underbossinsurrectionseries #catecwellsauthor

“You gonna watch?” I ask. It’s not like I can stop him. I’d do anything to keep my brother safe. He owns me, and he knows it.

Nicky rests his forearms on his thighs as he gazes up at me from under sooty eyelashes, a sheen on his olive skin. His damp undershirt clings to his sculpted pecs.

I’m covered from chest to knees in a thick towel. The bathroom is thick with steam.

Every muscle in his body is straining. Yeah, he’s watching.

I unwind the towel from around my head. He’s rapt. I drop the soggy towel on the floor and toe it into a corner. He doesn’t blink.

I spritz pre-styler on and work it through with my fingers. I do my routine without thinking, rinsing the tackiness from my fingers, plugging the dryer in, dividing my hair into sections, clipping it up, and getting to work.

Nicky watches like he’s never seen anything like it before, and his interest makes me aware of every inch of my skin, every slight movement, in a way I never am.

I gentle my motions so my hair swirls through the brush like in a commercial. Shivers race across my drying skin as Nicky notices every little thing.

When I swallow, his gaze falls to my throat. When I inhale deeply, it drops to my chest. It’s like there’s a thread between us.

My lungs tighten, but it’s not a panicky feeling. It’s an edge-of-your-seat feeling.

What would I do if he made a move?

What would I feel?

My hair is thoroughly done well before I turn the dryer off. After I apply finishing spray, I take my time combing it through with my fingers, arranging the curls over my shoulders, and then tossing it back like all the effort was nothing.

What is he going to do now?

It’s almost a relief when he stands, except he moves behind me, and I freeze. Lungs, limbs, everything.

He’s so much taller than I am. He could rest his chin on the top of my head.

Our eyes meet in the mirror. I can see his blown pupils, the thin band of dark brown iris, the vein in his neck that throbs in time with the pounding of blood in my ears.

He shuffles a half step forward until I’m bracketed between his arms.

He divides a length of hair, combing his fingers from scalp to ends, and lays it carefully over my left shoulder. His touch doesn’t linger. It skims. Dusts.

My belly spasms. My breath audibly catches.

He takes another length of hair, and slowly, so slowly, places it over my right shoulder.

Nicky bends, and—gently, carefully—presses his lips to my exposed nape, his nose brushing along my neck. Shivers race from nerve to nerve, down my spine and arms, to the tips of my fingers and toes.

A sound escapes my mouth. A strangled moan, a smothered whimper.

Nicky straightens, steps back, finds my eyes again in the mirror.

Calmly, methodically, he wraps his fingers around the base of my ponytail and slides his fist to the ends, winding my hair around his hand, drawing my neck back, forcing my chin to rise. I can feel his strength, how much he’s holding back.

He leans to speak in my ear, his breath hot on my cheek.

“I like it either way,” he says.

Then he lets go, still smiling, and he walks out.

Review: Nanny For The Alien Warrior by Athena Storm 3 of 5 stars

Nanny For The Alien Warrior (Intergalactic Fated Mates #8)

Nanny For The Alien Warrior by Athena Storm
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Human Maribel's brother died at a protest when Kiphian soldiers opened fire on the protestors. As her brother's Kipian partner had died she has done her best to care for their two children Nortin and Amara in her slum home. Ryker is a Kipian soldier who has been desperately tracking down his sister's children and has finally found them in Maribel's care. He wants to offer them a good home with food and education something she cannot deny them but she refuses to let them go without her. So she agrees to be their Nanny - something that Ryker is fine with but not so acceptable to his mother. There is an undeniable attraction between Ryker and Maribel and when he reveals that she is his fated mate she is ecstatic - right up until it becomes apparent that the sadness in his soul is due to him being one of the soldiers who shot her brother - can they get over that and have a HEA?

I enjoyed the story with the connections between them being his sister and her brother's death. Ignoring the fated mate side of things and their mutual attraction. It was also good to see how the grandmother's prejudice against humans was eventually conquered. The children were a delight and their personalities were clear and easy to detect. Easy to read and understand. Contains some mature content.

Review: Dirty Talker by Piper Rayne 3 of 5 stars

Dirty Talker (Single Dads Club, #2)

Dirty Talker by Piper Rayne
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Single Dad Dane is more into discrete one night stands that don't affect his daughter. Then Ava Pearson moves into the area and even though she is clearly not his type she is all he can think about. She runs the bakery across the road from his bar and her cupcakes are to die for - and seem to have a direct line to his junk. Her Dad is also a member of the Single Dad's Club and so he has to be careful. And so they agree to a friends-with-benefits arrangement. All seems to be going well until all of a sudden Dane cracks and wants more - so much more.

I enjoyed this book but it didn't grab me and sweep me away with the story or romance of the situation. It is a book for mature readers as it does contains sexual content. Easy to read and understand. I wish it had covered a little more from the daughter's point of view as I'm sure she deserved a little more involvement in the entire relationship between Dane and Ava.
