Quentin Black: The Vampire King (Quentin Black Mystery Series #4-6): A Fated Mates Paranormal Mystery Romance (Quentin Black Mystery Box Sets Book 2)Quentin Black: The Vampire King (Quentin Black Mystery Series #4-6): A Fated Mates Paranormal Mystery Romance by J.C. Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great value boxset containing:

BLACK IS BACK (Quentin Black Mystery #4) - 5*
Quentin Black and Miri Fox are thrown into the middle of a murder case when the victim is found beheaded and tied to a pier (and the man was previously Miri's client). Detectives have tracked the killer (known as The Templar) from LA to San Francisco. He doesn't stop killing in his new location hence the fact that the police department drags Miri and Black out of his apartment to investigate it (they were there as they were going through a Seer mate bonding and by being in the public too soon it affects everyone.

There was a huge amount of drama, danger and action in this story. I loved the way events unfolded and developed as the story unfolded. Everything was well written and easy to understand and feel as it developed. I loved the way there seemed to be plenty of miscommunication due to their cultural differences and felt that was quite understandable considering that Miri was not raised as a Seer. I can't wait for the next story to come along now.

BLACK AND BLUE (Quentin Black Mystery #5) - 5*
Miri and Quentin are only recently mated and trying to get used to the bond which is exacerbated because she doesn't necessarily understand all the implications of what happens during the establishment of it. Quentin takes a consulting job against Miri's judgement as a way of getting back to work after a recent injury. Unfortunately, it does not go to plan and Quentin is kidnapped and given a task to do before he gets his freedom. As part of his kidnapping, he has his abilities blocked so cannot feel or communicate with Miri. This means they both get the side effects of an establishing mating bond and all that entails. Miri does everything she can to find Black and work out the mystery of who has him.

I found the style of this book very enjoyable. The characters were very real and believable and the story addictive - I was certainly seeing the story and characters in my mind as I was reading it (a bit like watching a film). I found myself reading faster as I got further through the book as I NEEDED to know what happened next. Definitely recommended and worth reading.

Black Blood (Quentin Black Mystery #5.5) - 5*
Quentin Black was kidnapped by vampires and even though he is home he has not been the same, which his wife Miriam Fox (Miri) finds difficult. He has not really told her everything that went on yet but he's having bad dreams and she feels powerless to help him unless he tells her more. All she knows is that he wants to rescue some friends he made while in captivity and kill all vampires, however, life has more complications for them to sort out before they can get to do either of those two things.

Well written, easy to read and understand. Great side story to the Quentin Black series, Lots of descriptions of the emotions involved for both Miri and Black which were easy to feel and understand.

BLACK OF MOOD (Quentin Black Mystery #6) - 5*

In this story, Black and Miri are in New York because Black is determined to find Brick after the events of the previous book (and he feels it would be better to do it there) Much to Miri's dismay he appears to not be above doing anything and everything in order to succeed in this "vendetta" against Brick. Miri on the other hand is struggling with being in New York with all the publicity and celebrity that involves, plus the changes she sees in Black as everything gets very secretive and confusing. Then there are some dreadful terrorist attacks that implicate Black as the organiser - can their relationship survive all of this drama and uncertainty?

OMG - this was a very intense story that had me riveted. I could not put it down and found myself reading faster and faster as the story went on as I absolutely HAD to know what happened next. It moved from one situation to the next in a seamless manner as the story quickly developed. As always, it was very well written and I could definitely feel all the emotions that the characters were going through - even when they were very intense. I loved the dramatic ending and I give no apologies for ignoring everything else while I was reading it. I recommend red wine or chocolate as a treat when you finish this as you'll need to come down from the intensity. If I could give it a higher rating than 5 I definitely would!
