Quentin Black: Psychic Detective (Quentin Black Mystery Series #1-3): A Fated Mates Paranormal Mystery Romance (Quentin Black Mystery Box Sets Book 1)Quentin Black: Psychic Detective (Quentin Black Mystery Series #1-3): A Fated Mates Paranormal Mystery Romance by J.C. Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great value boxset and a comprehensive start to the Quentin Black series.

#1 BLACK IN WHITE (Quentin Black Mystery #1) - 5*
Miri Fox is a psychologist who also works as an on/off profiler for the police. They believe they have caught the "Wedding Killer" but when she checks him out Quentin Black claims to be hunting the killer too. He is nothing like Miri expects and she becomes determined to work out what his secrets are. However Black confronts Miri about her "insight" into people and she gets pulled even further into the game to catch the killer and also as a result into Black's world. Can Miri cope with the doubts and fascination with Black as well as handling the views from her best friend (who is a homicide cop) and her own boyfriend who works in intelligence.

WOW - loved this story. The story was intense and the building fascination between Miri and Black was quite lovely at times The relationship between Miri and her boyfriend seemed as if it wasn't anything special and I think when she meets Black no one else had a look in. There was lots of action, twists and turns in the story that kept me gripped and reading faster as I got further into the story and became more hooked. I can't wait to see how this develops in the next book of the series.

There was a sight crossover with the Bridge and Sword World series of books from the same author as they both feature seers.

#2 BLACK AS NIGHT (Quentin Black Mystery #2) - 5*
Miri Fox is a Forensic Psychologist and suddenly finds herself on a plane getting her boss Quentin Black (a psychic detective) out of jail in Bangkok. When she gets there he is working undercover in a gang f local criminals trying to discover who is killing street children and then burning their bodies in a ritual inside a Buddhist shrine. However Black isn't the only one interested in the crimes as it comes to the attention of local sex traffickers and a Russian crime syndicate who don't like this interference.
Miri arriving and helping brings her to the attention of the wrong people and she is suddenly the one being hunted.

Wow - this is intense and full of drama, action, danger and raw emotion. I definitely found myself reading this quicker and quicker as I got more into the story and Miri was in more and more danger. Black was his usual self - dark, moody and very irresistible. Well written and very easy to get lost in the sights, sounds and emotions involved in the story.

** Please note there is a brutal rape scene in this story and so you might choose not to read it because of that.

#3 Black Christmas (Quentin Black Mystery #2.5) - 5*
Miri Fox returns to San Franciso after the events in Thailand and then he disappears with no explanation, no warning and without telling her when he'll return. So she refuses to answer his calls and Black becomes desperate. Can he get her trust back after leaving her at precisely the time she needed him the most?

I'm sure all relationships contain moments like this and certainly Black has a whole lot of humble ie to eat before he is going to be able to have the kind of relationship with Miri that he wants. Well written and easy to read and understand. Quite emotional in the end experiencing the break and then mending of their relationship. Contains some sexual content.

#4 BLACK ON BLACK (Quentin Black Mystery #3) - 5*
Psychic detective Quentin Black disappears leaving his partner and forensic psychologist Miri Fox alone in San Francisco as soon as they return from Bangkok. He gave no explanation and gave no clues as to what he is doing, just leaving her the equivalent of breadcrumbs and cryptic hints. Miri is able to feel him more and more every day both when she is awake and when she is asleep dreaming to the point that her life starts to spin out of control as she senses what Black is doing is starting to be out of his control. She can sense he is in danger, but he won't admit it and no one will listen to her when she tries to get help from his staff. She can sense this new job of his is becoming more like a gauntlet and a test proving his loyalty of both his race and the mysterious Lucky Lucifer who controls a seer cult in Europe. So Miri realises she has to save Black even if she has to cross some cultural lines changing her life forever.

Oh wow - this book was all action, drama, danger and one hell of a reveal of information at the end that was impossible to predict. Lots of references to events in the previous books and some cross over to the Bridge and Sword World books which you might pick up easier now the final book in that series has been published. I loved how Miri was the strong one for much of this and she was the one knowing what she wanted and was going out to make sure she got it. Well written and very enjoyable. I have to confess I was unable to stop reading this and might have stayed up very late because I couldn't bear to not know what happened next.

#5 Black Supper (Quentin Black Mystery #3.5) - 5*

Quentin Black and Miri Fox finally get a chance to consummate their relationship after being separated for months while Black was in Paris. Little does Miri know, being new to the whole "seer" thing, this means a few weeks of losing herself in a sex-induced haze, barely able to function like a normal person, or really relate to anyone apart from Black himself. In the midst of their sex-fog madness, Black and Miri somehow decide going out to dinner is a good idea. It's not. Not really. Being in public right then isn't exactly something they can pull off... although the food is great when they remember to eat it.

I loved this story and I actually found it comical to read some of the thoughts and feeling that they were having especially the ridiculous situation of trying to dine out in public. Well written and easy to read/understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
