Review: I, Angel: An Urban Fantasy Mystery with Fallen Angels and Fated Mates by J.C. Andrijeski 5 of 5 stars

I, Angel (Angels in L.A. #1)

I, Angel by J.C. Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dags Jourdain is an angel - just not the kind who has a harp and the celestial chorus, but instead the kind that hunts demons. What that does mean is that he is a social weirdo who likes a rather strange and solitary life due to the fact that he will black out when he flies and will wake up in random places completely naked. He also has to sleep in a windowless room and can't drink alcohol due to a habit of randomly starting fires. He earns his living working as a PI in Hollywood, California around the demon-hunting however, life changes after he gets into a fight against a demon in an alley and saves the life of a movie star. He then discovers that someone has opened a hell portal underneath the Hollywood sign, a dead guy has left him and he has to cope with a homicide detective who hates him since high-school who suspects he is a serial killer. All of a sudden life really sucks. Can he come out of all of this with his life and freedom?

Wow - this was definitely an action-packed story as Dags went from one crisis to another doing his best to remain as the good guy while trying really hard to avoid prison. It was a very fine line that he was trying to stick to but all credit to him as he was able to achieve what he had to do while not getting into really deep trouble. I loved the power that he had when he really needed it and the self-control he was able to keep even though he was relatively inexperienced at what he was doing. I really hope he gets the chance to explore the events he experienced in the next book in the series and that we get to see the actors that he worked with inside this book. Well written, it was easy to feel and understand the thoughts and emotions that the characters were experiencing in this book. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 of this series.
