Review: Rouhr by Elin Wyn 4 of 5 stars

Rouhr (Conquered World, #6)Rouhr by Elin Wyn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Skotan General Rouhr is determined to destroy the Xathi on the human colony planet of Ankau as part of his sense of honour and purpose - after all, they got there due to the actions of his spaceship. As soon as their ship is repaired he and his men will be gone to the battle raging in all their homeworlds. But the smiling eyes of human leader Vidia sets fire to his soul and the touch of her skin to his scales is like an addiction. Needing her might distract him from his mission but he just can't stop it. Vidia knows her time with Rouhr is limited plus she has her own responsibilities on the people who all depend on her. Every caress he gives her her heart breaks but she finds that she just cannot walk away. The big question is if they have this final battle with the Xathi will they win and will they all survive and the price for it?

I really enjoyed this love story between Vidia and Rouhr all wrapped into the battle to destroy the Xathi and the potential departure of the warriors who are currently helping the humans to defeat the Xathi. I loved the politics between the various factions both on the alien side and the human side. There were so many possible permutations on how victory could happen, even more for how it could fail, and the age-old love story that could end in happiness or a completely broken heart. I loved the quick minds in the teams, the caring nature and the determination to make everything work. The scientific team were just genius with their determination to cure hybrids and how they managed to get everything to work ASAP while also making sure that they had all the data to study and be able to adapt and improve. A nice easy read with lots of thoughts and emotions as Rouhr and Vidia thought through their relationship and what was or was not possible. Contains some explicit sexual content.
