Review: Owen by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Owen (Hathaway House #15)

Owen by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The US navy wasn't kind to former SEAL Owen Powell. After he walked too close to a landmine he was left with leg and back injuries and a rough road to regaining his health. With his career down the drain and an uncertain future, every day is a struggle towards better mental and physical health. The last thing he expected was to find love at Hathaway House. Penny Abigail has spent her entire adult life trying to prove to her family that she is strong enough to live life on her own terms and that she is not the weak person plagued by illnesses that is all they seem to think she is. Although still frail she has worked hard to get where she is today having created several charities which hand out large sums of money to deserving organisations one of which is Hathaway House. Meeting Owen wasn't part of her plans but she is willing to run with it, however, the problem is convincing her overprotective family that the broken SEAL is good enough for her and is not just after her money.

I really enjoyed this story which was definitely a love story where they started off becoming friends and that those friends then had the opportunity to become much more if only they could get other folks to stop butting in and interfering. I loved the way that they were both respectful of each other, their opinions and conscious of not wanting to undermine each other - definitely a recipe for success in any relationship. They were both strong when they needed to be but also gave way and took the time for recovery when they needed that too. Well written, easy to read and understand. Definitely a fitting addition to the Hathaway House series.
