Review: Iain by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Iain Iain by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Determined to be where he wanted to be with his recovery, how that Iain MacLeod has been accepted as a patient into Hathaway House he knows he has a chance as he will get a new team with new professionals and methods. Vet tech Robin Carruthers works in the busy vet clinic at Hathaway House and meets Iain where she becomes his biggest cheerleader. However, as she sees Iain growing in many ways she is just standing still and making no progress with any issues she might have in her past. Can she find a way to sort everything out and will they find their way to the HEA they both deserve?

This was a sweet story that looked at some detail at the kinds of healing that are needed after any disability - both mental and physical. I loved the way that Robin was able to support Iain and some of the great suggestions that she came up with (something that might help us all). Well written and easy to read, this was a lovely story that started as a light read but actually turned into something far deeper. You do not need to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this and there is no sexual content.

Review: Carter by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Carter (The K9 Files #7)Carter by Dale Mayer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As Carter recovered from a disabling accident he stayed away from his home town in Montana where his best friend lived (plus his sister was there too). But when Geir and Cade from Titanium Corp ask him to try and locate a war dog that is missing he is happy to help and reconnect with his best friend too. When Hailey walks into her business partner's office ad find him dead it starts a chain of events that never seem to end. Bizarrely it seems to coincide with Carter's arrival (although it is clearly not connected) but it does add to her disquiet at seeing the man she has always loved but always been rejected by. As the body count increases and the town residents take sides, once again it is always Carter who has taken her side but he is now in danger after taking the missing K9 from someone on the other side. Carter knows he will always stand on the side that is right, now he also starts to hope against hope that he will not be standing alone. Can everything get resolved and they live to get a chance at the HEA they deserve?

This is a lovely story that had plenty of mystery, drama and danger mixed in with a little romance after they got past the sniping at each other (which became old quickly). It was nice to follow the mystery as to who was doing what and killing whom which will definitely register with anyone who has ever lived in a small town. Well written and easy to understand. There was no need to have read previous books in the series.

Review: The Marked Earth by Miranda Brock by Rebecca Hamilton 5 of 5 stars

The Marked Earth: A New Adult Urban Fantasy Romance Novel (The Cursed Key Trilogy Book 3)The Marked Earth: A New Adult Urban Fantasy Romance Novel by Miranda Brock by Rebecca Hamilton

My rating:
5 of 5 stars

Archaeologist Olivia Perez and PITO Agent Kael are back trying to find the fourth key while also staying alive from the powers that evil dark mage Vehrin is unleashing across the world as he does what he can to beat them to it and complete his goal of destroying life on the world as we know it As Olivia is the only one who can use the fourth key to stop him it becomes a desperate race as they search for the key while finding more out about the source of Olivia's powers as well as the curse that she carries within her. As a fate that Olivia is not prepared to accept is shown from her past, the war comes to a head on a long-forgotten mountain top - can Olivia prevail and destroy Vehrin or as part of it will she then succumb to eternal damnation?

Wow - this was a great book to draw all of the threads in the series together and come to a conclusion to the series. There were a great number of choices that Livie had to make and with the help of Kael's grounding presence she was able to make all of the right decisions and not give in to the curse. I loved the way their relationship finally had the resolution that we all wanted them to have and that neither side had to become anything that they were not. This was full of danger, drama, excitement, plots and decisions that we were all taken on with the characters as they worked their way through the various issues they encountered. Well written, this was easy to understand and it was also easy to empathise with the characters and live through the events as they did themselves. You need to read the whole trilogy as it will not make much sense if you try to read the last one without the previous ones.

Review: False Gods by Nazri Noor 5 of 5 stars

False Gods (Sins of the Father Book 2)False Gods by Nazri Noor

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nephilim Mason Albrecht is the son of fallen angel Samyaza and danger is always stalking him no matter what he does or wherever he goes. While he has a home in a forest dimension owned by a goddess he still has to come out of it in order to earn money or purchase things. When a familiar flame wielding Magnus appears he knows he is going to have trouble. Thankfully, a familiar friend comes to help Mason but even with other familiar and unfamiliar new friends (including a time stopping Scion) will need everything they have because the Norse god of mischief (Loki) needs help via a small favour and it will have major ramifications. Can Mason keep everyone (including himself) safe and retain his freedom too?

I loved this story which developed the world that Mason now lives in as well as introducing an old character in order to connect his new and old life. I loved the way Mason is growing up and learning more about his abilities as he navigates the world that he currently lives in. Well written and easy to read and comprehend I can't wait to find out what happens to Mason next.

Review: Knock, Knock… by Dale Mayer 4 of 5 stars

Knock, Knock… (Psychic Visions, #5)Knock, Knock… by Dale Mayer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shay Lassiter is wealthy and beautiful and spends her time running an organisation called the Lassiter Foundation, but all that meant nothing when her fiance tried to murder her. Now she is far more cautious and uses her knack for reading people to save herself heartache. However, when people connected to the foundation start dying in slightly unexpected or mysterious ways she needs to depend on help from the new man in her life. Computer specialist and ex-cop, Roman Chandler has s secret that could ruin his relationship with Shay. Can he get her to trust him and learn more about him while saving Shay when the killer sets their sights on her?

This was definitely a clever psychic mystery wrapped up into a romance between Shay and Roman. There were parts of this story that I found long-winded and monotonous, and there were parts that I really enjoyed (hence the rating). It was well written and very enjoyable to read. The way that Roman rescues Shay at the end was very clever.

Review: Black Hawaii: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance by JC Andrijeski 5 of 5 stars

Black Hawaii: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance Black Hawaii: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance by JC Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

All Miri wanted was a vacation so they could spend some time together - especially after Black's recent transformation and Miri getting rid of some of the evil in the world (including her uncle Charles). But the time in Hawaii is not going as she planned - especially when within the first full day a part alien body washes up on the beach. An old friend of Black's asks them to investigate and they feel they have to even though they also have to contend with the paparazzi which stops them blending in with the other wealthy guests. Everything escalates when some turn up alive as they discover something much more sinister at work with Miri in the crosshairs. Can they find a solution and come out of this without a PR disaster?

This was a great story in the series that investigated the difficulties that Quentin Black was experiencing after his transformation in the previous book as well as the fallout from Miri's actions with her uncle Charles. I loved the twist near the end of the story when it appeared that Charles had brainwashed people into believing the opposite of the truth and Black's final solution was a masterstroke - I just wonder what the fallout will be in the next book and it that will cause the seers to leave in this series just like they did at the end of the Bridge and Sword series. I won't spoil the surprise but it will cause you to gasp and wonder if he has lost his mind. Well written and very enjoyable I couldn't put it down until I had finished it (although I had felt bereft at the fact that it was complete too). You do not need to have read the previous books in the series but you will enjoy it far more if you have as you will understand the backstory.

Review: Psychic Visions Box Set 1-3 by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Psychic Visions Box Set 1-3 Psychic Visions Box Set 1-3 by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great value collection of the first three books in the Psychic Vision series by Dale Mayer. Well written, great mysteries and easy to read, these can all be read stand-alone although I preferred to read them in order.

#1 Tuesday's Child 5*

Samantha Blair hides her psychic abilities after being ridiculed her whole life and so lives on the fringes of society caring for animals (who never judge her). However, she has unknowingly tapped into the actions of a serial killer via his victims and so st experiencing each of the blows in their murder as if it was happening to her too. As much as she dreads it, she feels she must find the detectives investigating the murders and try to help them catch the killer and stop it - if only she can be taken seriously and believed. Detective Brandt Sutherland trusts only physical hard evidence however after initial credulity the more he learns and sees of her, the more he starts to trust her and her observations. However, as they work their way through the clues and get closer to the killer it seems that Sam is the one in danger - can Brandt save her, catch the killer and cope with the very real risk of losing his heart in the process?

I loved this story which had a great mixture of psychic ability, mystery, danger, drama and romance. I became drawn into the story and solving the mystery as to who the serial killer was and if they could work together to save Sam as well as have a chance of a HEA too. Addictive, I started to read it faster and faster as my need to know what happens next grew. Well written, easy to feel and understand and very enjoyable this is a great introduction to the series.

#2 Hide'n Go Seek 5*

Kali Jordon is a celebrated search and rescue specialist with her trusty dog Shiloh. However, Kali has a secret - The Sight inherited from her grandmother allows her to trace the energy to find people on her own - especially if they are victims of violence (especially murder). She is able to keep this secret until a twisted killer decides to challenge her to a game of "hide and go seek" which threatens those who are closet to her. Now she has to rely on FBI Special Agent Grant Summers who has sworn to protect her (even though he believes there is more to Kali and Shiloh's success than meets the eye. As the killer closes his net tighter and tighter around Kali and Grant there is absolutely no place to hide. Can they both keep each other alive and find something special at the same time?

This was a great mystery story with a psychic twist as a madman decided to act God and dish out death as he decided was deserved by innocent people. Through it all Kali struggled to master her psychic skills as well as handle the closeness of another person in her life. I loved the way that Grant did everything he could to be strong while also learning that a strong and feisty woman is not great at taking orders. Well written and very enjoyable I was kept guessing as to know the killer was right up to the final confrontation at the end of the story. This will definitely become addictive as you work through the various candidates and eliminate them.

#3 Maddy's Floor 5*

Medical intuitive and licensed MD Madeleine Wagner is disturbed when patients start dying in the long term care facility she runs for unexpected reasons. Usually, terminally ill patients fight to get to her facility but now an evil force is behind these deaths so she calls on her mentor and friend Stefan for help as she desperately tries to stop the deaths. Detective Drew McNeil has two family members who need Maddy's help but he actually wonders who cares for Maddy especially after the events on her floor in the hospital started to involve him in the investigation of the case but then as he spends more time with Maddy the more involved with her he becomes too. How can these people stop something that no one else can see, feel or even believe?

I loved this story which was very clever and hit all the right notes as a psychic story. I loved the central part of the story and the final result on who was causing the issues. A definite mystery story that kept us guessing until the end of the book. Lots of detail on how psychics and the skills worked that was great for helping to understand how the similar events are going to happen in further books to the series. Well written and easy to understand.

Review: Burn Dragon Burn by Julia Mills 5 of 5 stars

Burn Dragon Burn Burn Dragon Burn by Julia Mills
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Detective Donatella Hale (known as Hale or Nat) is a homicide detective working in a normal precinct when they brought in a Special Agent called Rafe O’Rhordan from the Dragon Protection Agency (staffed by Dragon Guardsmen) is pulled into her case. She is distinctly unimpressed until he walks into the precinct and she feels completely out of sorts after all he is a man strong enough to corral her and secure enough in himself to resist the temptation. However, love and any time they can have alone will have to wait - there have been six murders in eighteen-months and no clues are left for them to use in solving them. Can they work out who the next victim is and where the body will be left? After all, the clock is ticking - can Nat see where he is and can Rafe blaze the trail in time?

This was a story with lots of danger and drama as Nat and Rafe found each other and came together into a great duo of crime fighters - if only they can survive and complete their mating. I loved the twists in this story with kept the killer's identity right up to the end when everything was revealed. I loved the way that Nat was feisty and has more sess that was good for her. Rafe was a dream of a guy who did what it took in order to reach a compromise with her while leaving no stone unturned when trying to rescue her. Well written and very enjoyable. Contains some violence and sexual content.

Beau Beau by Dale Mayer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ex-SEAL Beau is heading to Alaska on a mission to rescue a woman from a cult that has started to kidnap women to increase their numbers. after her father called in a favour. Danika was late for a college class but a hood was thrown over her head and hours later she wakes up on a dirt floor with her arms and legs bound and a grate above her head. He's great at giving her orders, but she is not good at following them. Can Beau and Danika work together to free the other women and stay safe?

This was a great story with a very strong and assertive woman goes up against and with a strong alpha male. I loved the relationship between them and the way the dominance switched between them. Time and time again they saved each other as Danika found new depths in herself. Well written and easy to understand, it was a very enjoyable read that took me on the journey with them as they found to stay alive and free all the women that were trapped there.
