Review: Ax by Monica La Porta by A.K. Michaels 5 of 5 stars

Ax Ax by Monica La Porta by A.K. Michaels
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Axelrod McKenzie (known as Ax) left the Seattle Wolf Pack years ago and had no intention of ever returning. However when the man who adopted him and is the pack alpha dies he has to go back. When he is there he becomes consumed by a hunger that almost leaves him undone - just when he needs all his attention to handle seeing his half-brother Kendall who will inherit the pack. When he sees his brother fiancee Aimee it becomes apparent that they are fated soul-mates. This situation feels like it cannot get any worse - can the three of them get past this or will the feud between Ax and Kendall come to an explosive conclusion?

I loved this story. There were so many emotions tied up in this story and the discovery of the soulmates just ratcheted up the drama and pressure between the brothers. I could feel and relate to all of the pressures and feelings from the characters in the story and I was with Ax hoping that there was a way that everything would work out.

Review: The Collector by Rhett C. Bruno 4 of 5 stars

The Collector The Collector by Rhett C. Bruno
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Malcolm Graves is a bounty hunter who works for Pervenio Corp. He is on what should be a routine job to pickup a runaway offworld heir when he discovers the heir is in the hands of a mad scientist who is developing androids.

This was a lovely novella with lots of drama and intrigue. The story appeared to be going one way then did a 90 degree and went in another direction. The story was well written and you could feel the emotions being felt by the players in the story. I could both imagine something like this happening but also dread it. You do not have to read any of the Titanborn Universe novels to read this.

Review: The Royal Mistake: A Billionaire Prince Romance by Erin Hayes 5 of 5 stars

The Royal Mistake: A Billionaire Prince Romance The Royal Mistake: A Billionaire Prince Romance by Erin Hayes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Prince Henry and Cat meet and after more than a few drinks have a wild one night stand. The next morning he is his usual pompous racing car driver self and Cat leaves to go back to New York and continue her focus on her career. When Jessica (Cat's old boss) invites her to Dubreva to work for her again she meets a recovering Prince Henry after an accident and he is is determined to rekindle what happened between them that night. Her news of 2 pink lines on a stick add to the complication of the whole situation.

I loved this story. The story was very involved and complicated in the situation between them as well as their own stories. Everything was well written and the emotions were very clearly described so that I could feel them myself. I was definitely routing for them both and that they would be able to sift through their thoughts and feelings to reach the conclusion I wanted them to get to.

Review: Benn by Laurie Olerich 5 of 5 stars

Benn Benn by Laurie Olerich
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Benn was a shrink at SuperMax but as part of the Trinity Demons he is stripped of his powers and wakes up in the body of an uptight antiquities professor. Lainey Hayes is a grad student trying to escape her mystic roots when she is signed to a special project which involves exploring Rome, rafting into jungles but it's with egotistical, narrow-minded, and condescending Professor Daniels. It all seems like hell for her but she’s shocked to discover this adrenaline junkie with a zest for life is nothing like the jackass she remembered.

This is a charming story with drama and lots of action mixed into a story that is connected to the Primani world. It was also a charming love story between two people which was well written and very addictive. As I read it I was reading faster and faster as I needed to know what happened next. I loved the ending which definitely made me smile.

Review: Allegiance: A Reapers Novel by Josh Collins 5 of 5 stars

Allegiance: A Reapers Novel Allegiance: A Reapers Novel by Josh Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Reapers are operatives who wear invulnerable battle armour and had previously managed to free the Dominion planet of Silverset from the ULC terror group. Now they are called to give up their normal lives again to save the Dominion from a civil war caused by fear by finding the Allegiance Papers to find the source of aid to the terror group. The question is will they succeed and all make it out alive?

I loved this story. It started a little slowly but soon everything started to develop and the action started. It then moved from one situation into the next as the story twisted and turned it way to a conclusion. Don't try and guess the next move in the story as you will be not get it right very often. It was well written and easy to understand and feel the emotions involved in the story. Now I just need to know what happens next.

Rook (Bridge & Sword: Awakenings #1): Bridge & Sword World Rook (Bridge & Sword: Awakenings #1): Bridge & Sword World by JC Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Allie is human and has always distanced herself from the Seers on the planet when a series of events occur that transports her from her normal life to being on the run from both her won government and a group of Seers called Rooks with a Seer called Revik. As part of that she learns that Seers are not like she was previously been told, that the world is also different than she understood, and her origins may not be as human as everyone thinks. Then her family get dragged into the war between different Seer factions and everything gets very personal - can Allie stop it and save her loved ones?

I loved this story. It had lots of drama, suspense and lots of twists and surprises in the story. You could empathise with Allie and what was happening to her even if you didn't understand why she couldn't commit at times. It was well written and everything was clear and easy to understand. Now I just need to know what happens next and will there be some time for happiness.

Review for Damned if I Do (The Harker Trilogy #1) by Erin Hayes

Evie grew up in a family that hunted supernaturals but she wasn't directly involved so she didn't believe in a lot of things - however when her and her sister are attacked by Vampires it means her sister is killed and Evie has been infected. Now she has to take over from her sister while she herself is dying. She is determined to find the vampire who killed her sister with the help of a vampire with amnesia called Jude. Can she do everything she needs to do before she runs out of time?

I LOVED this story. It had the right mix of drama, mystery and romance. Just when it felt that everything was going to be there was a twist in the story and everything changed.

Review: A Curiosity of the Solar System by Ian Antony 5 of 5 stars

A Curiosity of the Solar System A Curiosity of the Solar System by Ian Antony
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Captain Ivor Hooke is a quite likeable if naive office in the British Army who has been sent through space on a diplomatic mission to a far flung corner of the British Empire. During that mission he will find himself in a city that is suspended above clouds, get caught up in a rebellion meet strange people and find out more about himself.

This was a great book that merged the world in the 1850's with colonisation and spaceflight. Somewhere in all of that was a story about the nature of people, the way they interact with each other, and even a bit of a love story. It was well written and I could feel and empathise with all the events, emotions and frustrations experienced by the characters in the story. It had some twists in the story as events occurred and developed to the characters in the story. I won't give the ending away and will just say I was heartbroken at the ending and really hope things improve as the story develops.

Review: Bayou Shadow Protector by Debbie Herbert 5 of 5 stars

Bayou Shadow Protector Bayou Shadow Protector by Debbie Herbert
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chulah Rivers is a Native American Shadow Hunter in the Bayou and is used to strange creatures and evil spirits. Then a woman called April Meadows suddenly appears and asks him to help in a battle that threatens the Fae which she claims will affect the balance between the worlds. She also appears to know everything about him and he finds himself trying to resist a desire for her.

Wow - this was a great story that merged the worlds or the Shadow Hunters and the Fae in a charming love story. It had plenty of twists and turns with drama and intrigue. It was well written and I could feel the emotions and dilemmas experienced by the characters in the story.

Review: Dating in the Apocalypse: Sarah: "The One" by Christopher John Chater 5 of 5 stars

Dating in the Apocalypse: Sarah: Dating in the Apocalypse: Sarah: "The One" by Christopher John Chater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tom Collins is trying to do the impossible - find the love of his life during the apocalypse. However he will be hindered by violent clans and a slave based economy. In this time of danger and violence his mother has adapted her skills to design dresses for women that have deadly hidden secrets - areas to hide weapons in. Can he navigate all of this and find "the one".

This was a lovely story with lots of detail describing the apocalyptic world and the common behaviours during that time. The description of Tom, his mother and the other characters was good and I could sense the feelings of danger and frustration experienced by them all.

Review: Shifters Untamed by Melanie James, by A.K. Michaels 5 of 5 stars

Shifters Untamed Shifters Untamed by Melanie James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a collection of 9 books and I will update this review as I read each one.

1) An Evening in the Superstitions - Kate Richards
2) Ember's Curse - Gena D. Lutz

3) The Black Rose Chronicles Deceit and Lies - A K Michaels

Rose keeps her heritage secret in this dystopian world where witches have been sought out and murdered even though supernaturals can live openly. Instead she is a highly trained assassin who only kills those who deserve it in this lawless world she lives in. However her latest commission from The Council stalls when she realises that the Vampire Cassius Allarde she was told to kill is not what she has been told.

Wow - i LOVED this story. It had a great plot and the story moved on at a fairly good pace. There were plenty of twists and turns and the cliff hanger at the end means I HAVE to read the next in the series.

4) Getting Bear - Ever Coming
5) Catamount Ridge - Aubree Lane
6) Volatile Breath of Darkness - Candice Mansfield
7) Awakening-Bray - Claudy Conn
8) Fur Ever Yours - Melanie James

Review: Immortal Winter (Sector 4) by N.R. Larry, by Margo Bond Collins 4 of 5 stars

Immortal Winter (Sector 4) Immortal Winter (Sector 4) by N.R. Larry by Margo Bond Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jayla Storm wakes up next to a dead body in her ice tower and has no idea how it gt there nor what happened. Then the handsome Kip Stanton blows up her tower and kidnaps her insisting the queen who saved her is a liar. Now she's stuck with rebels who insist the queen needs to be usurped and Ravagers who appear to be attracted to her. She also struggles with confusion as her memories start to come back and she gets feelings for Kip - can she start to trust anyone.

This story took some getting into as the movements forward and back between reality and memory were a little surreal and hard to cope with. The actual story was good and it contained lots of drama and intrigue. I could feel the emotions and could empathise with the characters.

So he has to turn to Annie Matthews for help as she has an ability to hear auras - especially as he has discovered that there is a traitor in their midst in the bayou - however he is not sure if he can trust someone outside of his tribe nor if he can control the desires he feels towards her.

This is a charming story containing mysticism, drama and passion all mixed together. Everything was well written and I could feel all the emotions involved in the story. This is the first book in the series and was a solid start.

Review: A Reputation Dark & Deadly by Heather C. Myers 5 of 5 stars

A Reputation Dark & Deadly A Reputation Dark & Deadly by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Logan Jeffrey is a tenured criminology professor at the University of Newport in Southern California. He is also a man with a reputation for saying whatever he wants ad calling out students. He also pushes them to their true potential as everyone who passes with a A has a job by the time they graduate. He also has a reputation for sleeping with his teaching assistants and breaking their hearts.

Payton knows all about Logan but knows she can't avoid him forever now she has been accepted into the graduate programme - plus she is his only TA this quarter so she is going to be spending too much time with him. As she spends more time with him she is drawn to him and feels as if she can't stay away even though she really should.

I LOVED this story. The efforts she went to try and stay away from him and the way she failed. It was charming the way their relationship developed and the various twists and turns in their story.

Review: Succubus by Wesley Thomas 5 of 5 stars

Succubus Succubus by Wesley Thomas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Leon wakes up after being in a coma for a year from an accident that he cannot remember - in fact he cannot remember much about life at all. He feels an evil presence haunting him as well as having a mixture between erotic and frightening dreams that confuse him as he has no idea if they are just dreams or flashbacks into his past. As events spiral he has to work through the dreams to decide if they are memories and try to piece together the pieces of the puzzle he has identified.

I don't generally read horror but I really enjoyed this book. It had plenty of twists and turns as Leon sorted out his dreams into memories and worked out the significance of them. Even when he thought he understood what was going on, something would happen and it all changed again. It was well written and everything was clear and completely understandable. Emotions were easy to pick up and I could feel myself empathising with Leon at times over his confusion and the way everything had changed after he thought he had got to the bottom of things.

Review: Sinfully Spellbound by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Sinfully Spellbound Sinfully Spellbound by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Allie is a succubus and has not had sex for 6 months even though her Mum is always asking her is she is getting enough of it (freaky). Then she meets a warlock called Dylan who avoids commitment like the plague but feels she cannot resist him so plans for a one night stand with him to get him out of her system - except that Dylan bizarrely doesn't agree with that view. Can he change her negative view of warlocks while keeping her safe from a serial killer of succubi?

I loved this story - it had romance, danger, magic and fear of commitment all mixed into the same story. Everything was clearly told and easy to understand and I found myself being drawn into the story more and more as it progressed.

Robin Mann is a bored and distracted company executive who is pulled into a group of radicals who are trying to change the world for the best. However the world is full of inequality, corporate dominance and dreadful regimes and Robin find it hard to commit to their methods and morals.

Great concept with interesting elements from the future and the past all woven into the one story. A must for anyone who enjoys dystopian worlds. Everything was well told and explained, with a good level of detail so that you could feel as if you were there and involved in the events and emotions being experienced in the story.

The Tower of Never There The Tower of Never There by Danny McAleese
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a Choose Your Own Adventure book. In this story your character receives a date/time, a set of coordinates and COME ALONE. Can you navigate the clues, tips and characters from many different locations to reach the top of the tower or will you have a different ending?

This is a fun story to read and navigate to create your own unique story. You can use all sorts of methods to determine which way to go when a decision is needed - a dice, a coin, gut feel or if you are a computer nerd like me a random number generator.
