Kayzon of twenty-six is definitely a large Xylan warrior. He was banished from his homeworld and deemed unworthy of being placed on the register in order to try for a bride. But one fierce female is not afraid of him. When Kia sees Kayzon walk through the crowded marketplace on New Earth she tries desperately to speak to him and he just tells her to leave as nothing good will come from her attention. But when Hurlian soldiers start to drop from the sky and snatch up unsuspecting humans Kayzon accidentally touches her a bolt of awareness strikes them both and before she knows it he is kissing her, claiming her and telling her that she is his bride. Things take a right turn when Kia discovers that her new husband was never supposed to have a bride and that their mating is in review and that she has one planetary revolution to formalise or reject their tenuous marriage. What is she going to do?
I liked this story which had an alien who was not permitted to mate due to something in his history only to find a mate and then it seems he himself puts everything into doubt due to his race's rules and culture. It was very confusing and frustrating at times I'm just glad that Kia was able to find a way through all of the politics and rules. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
