Wolf shifter and military veteran Marie Levine is settling into her new role as a bodyguard even though she still has to cope with PTSD What she never expected was that as part of her next job she would come across her mate. Brent Williams is a chemical engineer and bona fide geek. On the run from a previous employer, he is wanted and hiding out with a friend but agrees to go to a party. There he meets the most beautiful woman who is completely out of his league because he is geeky, wimpy, small and more importantly human. After the blind date goes wrong Brent ends up almost dying but is saved by Marie when she uses a magic serum Zeke had created. Now Brent is an alpha and full of strength and determined to clam Marie even if they destroy some beds on the way there. When death comes calling again to stop the sex and romance Brent will have to fight for both his own life but also that of Marie. Can they survive all of this and have the HEA they want and deserve?
I really enjoyed this story which had some deep subjects looking at PTSD, chemical uses and warfare. I like the relationship between Marie and Brent and how they had to work to get past things that seemed irreversibly broken in order to end up with a far stronger relationship. This story had a lot of action and violence as well as explicit sexual content. A very enjoyable read that was easy to understand and feel their thoughts and emotions.
