Witch Kiera is the Chosen - a virgin and specially trained to change a group of men into Kodiak Bear Shifters in order to protect Mazmark against the Destroyers who come every winter to destroy entire cities. She has just nine days before the spell has to be cast. However, when the captain of the shifters Xander Oslo joins her to prepare for the ceremony he is loud arrogant, insistent and very quick to anger and completely irresistible. Can he be relied on when it comes for the time for a way and can she handle everything when it becomes clear that the current leader has completely misled everyone and is lying to them?
This was a great combination of a paranormal story (shifters, witches etc) and a dystopian story set in the future. There was a lot of drama, danger, complicated plots and a very brave woman and her mate who was a reluctant shifter who was determined that no one else should be forced to become one against their will. The very enjoyable and very clever world-building that makes me wonder what else could happen in this special world. (My guess is the friend and second in command). Very enjoyable read. Contains sexual content.
