Review: Cain's Cross by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Cain's Cross Cain's Cross by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At the end of the previous book in the series, Cain heard the killer telling him that "You're next" and so he knows that time is running out both for him and the rest of his team. As some members of the team continue to search for Bullard in the ocean, Cain is focussed on tracking the killer's history to hopefully lead to whoever is after them all. A trip to Sicily brings more pertinent information to light but also even more puzzles to solve as well as an unexpected light into Cain's life. When Petra picks up two men at the airport for her Aunt and Uncle she has no idea just how much her own personal life is about to unravel. Not only do they bring up some old memories that were quite terrible, but they are also shining a light onto an unsavoury part of the local town - somewhere that she avoids. As the present starts to blow up with Cain and Eton at her side they all try to stay alive as bodies start to drop all around them.

This was certainly an action-packed instalment of the series as they started to make progress on the mystery of who was after the team but it came at a cost for Petra as her past and present life unravelled as associated parts of the story became clear. I loved the way that Cain and Petra were both determined to get to the bottom of things that affected their own lives and were determined to survive no matter how devastating the information was. I have to say I admire Petra who coped with betrayal after betrayal and hit after hit but did not crack in her need to know what had and was happening. That proved to me that Cain and Petra really did belong together. Well written and easy to read and understand. I definitely read this book faster as I needed to know what was going to happen next. Contains a very small amount of sexual content at the end of the book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
