Human Neera has a strange illness that human doctors don't understand but having seen alien doctors she is not what she thought and the atmosphere of Earth is actually killing her. Too broke to relocate to a better world she instead uses the Prime Mating Agency to marry a sexy merman with scarlet hair, pink scales and a toe-curling voice. Echo is over the moon when he is told the agency has found him a match but finding out his mate has weakened health causes his protective instincts to surge forward. After their initial meeting, he finds that her courage, resilience and personality have him totally enthralled. But as Neera evolved into her true form, will Echo's homeworld become too toxic for her too so that she has to leave again ensuring that she loses her happiness?
I enjoyed this story with the complication of the health problem, the cure, and that it could change her to the point that she loses everything again - even if she has to leave the man she now loves. I loved Echo's parents and her failures to learn some of the subtleties in earning part of the language of the planet which is totally relatable for anyone who has tried to learn a foreign language. Echo was an adorable person and if he were ever to lose Neera I would happily offer myself as a replacement! Easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.
