My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Prince Tirus is from the Empire and he has spent years trying to find and expose the poison at the heart of it but a chance encounter with Human Matilde throws all of his plans as just her touch is enough to set his skin burning and release the beast in him that has been locked away for generations. The question is, was finding his mate the greatest gift to him or a weapon to be used against him by his enemies? Teacher Matilde wants much more knowledge than what was left for them by their planet's founders and can see that with Tirus she can achieve that. But the possibilities come with unknown dangers with even Tirus at the top of that list.
I really enjoyed this story which introduced us to a new culture and a new world. It was very interesting to see how Matilde was able to push Tirus to give concessions to his staff as well as herself - something that should have given her better clues as to how he really felt about her. I loved the drama in the palace and the way that one of Tirus's brothers was central to how Matilde got free from imprisonment. Easy to read and understand. Some sexual content.
