Three shadowkind called Torrent, Crag, and Lance work for a higher shadowkind called Rollick and he asks them to keep an eye on human Quinn who lives in Florida and is trying to work on schoolwork while recovering from receiving a heart transplant. She knows that she should squeeze as much as she can into her life as it won't last her forever. Then she is attacked by many minor shadowkind and the three have to step in and save her before whisking her away from her home to a place where they can keep her safe. They don't know exactly what, but there is something special about her that is attracting all of this unwanted "monster" attention. The three who save her are just as brutal and appear to be damaged in their own way but she does also catch glimpses of their tenderness too. The touch of their fangs and tentacles makes her feel shockingly alive so she finds it hard to remember why she feared them right up until she discovers the real reason they are protecting her!
I really enjoyed this RH story which was a fun read due to the variety of shadowkind as well as the mystery of why they were attracted to her and why she was so tempting to devour. I loved the heart transplant side of things and the way that they tried to teach her how to defend herself even though she was clearly not on the same level in some ways with the viciousness of the various forms of shadowkind. I liked the way everything was described and that attention was paid to her thoughts and emotions. Contains some explicit sexual content.
