Review: Dead Draw by Layla Reyne 5 of 5 stars

Dead Draw (Perfect Play, #1)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Special Agent Emmitt Marshall wears a cowboy hat, can hack absolutely anything, is great at playing chess and has a habit of falling in love with emotionally available men. Widower Special Agent Levi Bishop has a teenage son and is struggling to move on after his wife's death. He is also trying to find a way to pay off his mountain of debt plus fix the mess some cowboy cyber agent made of his case. Then the same cowboy proposes a marriage of convenience between them both to stop a common enemy. The question is, is Marsh an answer to his prayers or a nightmare? Either way, both men know that their cases and lives are at a dead draw with the only play left, saying I do.

I really enjoyed this MM story with the mystery of the case, the various parties involved, how they were going to make progress, plus all the family dynamics. Then we come to their relationship with the hesitant Emitt and determined but considerate Marsh. I loved their mutual respect for each other, their determination to get a good result, the calculated risks they were prepared to take, and the way that affection and love built between them, admittedly at different speeds, but mutual by the end too. Contains some MM mature content.
