Shifter Jackie has a professional tough exterior but does hide a tragic past which keeps her very closed to relationships with anyone else. She is assigned to rescue a geek with a trust fund called Wilder from a shadowy criminal group who may be connected to her past and those responsible for her pain. When she finds him she really should stay highly professional but her body has different ideas and wants him. Wilder can't believe that Jackie is sent to protect him but also doesn't mind if a beautiful woman is willing to spend time with him. As a bonus, she also seems to like him and that is never a bad thing when it is also a person who he wants, although she has the strength to kill him in bed. When the worst happens and she has to use the special serum on him, it makes him far more than the cute geek and suddenly something long term seems possible.
I enjoyed this story which was in a slightly different format to the other books in the series but that did not detract from the need to save and protect a geek followed by catastrophic injury and the method of saving him. I loved that Wilder was quite proper and old-fashioned at heart and did everything very properly after their adventure had ended. I think they will continue to do great things in the future too. As to read and understand. Contains some sexual content.
