Review: Designation: Submissive by Jamie Kassel 3 of 5 stars

Designation: Submissive (The Designation Series Book 1)

Designation: Submissive by Jamie Kassel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The world has advanced and governments have genetically modified soldiers to make them stronger, faster, smarter and deadlier. The downside is that they are then made into either and dominant or a submissive in an alpha/omega format where there can be knotting but no mpreg. Corporal Craig Richard is a submissive and he needs a dominant to take him through his Release Cycle and purge him of toxic hormones. Dominant Commander Samuel Flak is experienced and able to put the submissive's needs first so can handle a first-ever cycle but he dreams of having a submissive of his own permanently who needs to submit hard outside his cycle. As soon as he meets Craig Sam knows he’s found his match.

This was an interesting concept and I liked the thought that in designing the genetic mutations needed to make soldiers better they had damaged them into the dominant/submissive society that needed intense sex to purge their toxic hormones. I felt very sorry for Craig who was quite damaged and pitiful but was heartened that standards had improved since his conversion. I enjoyed their relationship and that Sam did everything that he could to care for and protect Craig. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content in a BDSM-like D/s dynamic set in an Omegaverse-type world.
