Review: Blu, My Protector by R.S. McKenzie 5 of 5 stars

Blu, My Protector (Family Ties #1)

Blu, My Protector by R.S. McKenzie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blu has a beast inside him, urging him to kill. Working as a psychiatrist, he expects to encounter psycho and sociopathic patients but he never has the urge to kill them until one patient triggers that need inside him. He expects the kill to be easy, just like the others but what he doesn’t expect is to want to possess my patient’s boyfriend, June. As soon as he lays eyes on June, he knows that he’s his. June is happy with his boyfriend and ready to take their relationship to the next level until he finds out he’s a serial killer and he is slated to be his next victim. Saved by a handsome older man just in the nick of time he realises that he is the same handsome man that stared into his soul at my coffee shop and even though he scares him he feels a connection to Blu York. One he wants to deepen. Blu and June meet under less-than-ideal circumstances. Can their love prevail? Or will dating a psychopath be too much for June?

This was a dark story with Blu who was an extremely careful serial killer guided by his beast who met and saved June from a serial killer who was depicted as a far worse serial killer. I loved that Blu was on a spectrum and that June was his person although by the end they were both obsessed with each other. The coffee shop and Blu's psychiatry practice were both central to the story. Easy to read, feel and understand, I loved these two men who were explosive together. This was an MM story with mature content.

Review: Slippery When Wet by Morticia Knight 3 of 5 stars

Slippery When Wet

Slippery When Wet by Morticia Knight
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ellery has tried being a submissive but it's not his thing so with some insight from his best friend decides to give Age Play a try. So he goes Daddy shopping on age play night at a Manhattan BDSM club he spies a handsome silver fox. However, before Ellery can make a move, his friend warns him away from the mysterious Daddy. Calvin’s boy dumped him so he resolved not to bring potential subs to his home anymore. Better he finds out whether he clicks with someone first by confining his boy hunt to clubs. When Calvin notices a sweet young thing he’s never seen at age play night, he wonders if he might be ‘the one’. Ellery never had the chance to meet his dream Daddy, but fate intervenes in the most spectacular of ways. Still, the question remains: will age play be the answer to his kink dilemma? And will Ellery allow Calvin to fulfil his most secret fantasy?

This was a sweet story as Ellery explores age play with the help of Daddy Cavin and they find out they were very compatible. Everything moved quickly but it was obvious that they were both captivated with each other. Time passing was sometimes a little strange as there was a change in the paragraph with a blank line to make it a little more obvious but it needed to be more explicit. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB relationship.

Review: You Don't Know Jack by Anna Sparrows 4 of 5 stars

You Don't Know Jack (Dads & Adages, #2)

You Don't Know Jack by Anna Sparrows
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thirty-one-year-old firefighter Jack Bradford has a wonderful life with good friends and a new girl every night habit. However, when a past lover comes knocking with an epic surprise of the ‘small human’ variety in tow, Jack’s life is upended. Hiring a nanny to help him navigate unexpected parenthood is a must. Twenty-one-year-old Leo Martin knows that he’s not what most people imagine when they hear the words ‘nanny’ or ‘au pair’ but he loves his job. A recent breakup has left him homeless and his heart bruised so being offered a job with room and board taken care of sounds like a dream but single dad Jack is hot so it is going to be a struggle to remain professional. With Jack discovering parts of himself he never knew existed, and Leo attempting to maintain professional boundaries, how will they navigate their way to their Happily Ever After?

I enjoyed this story with the not-so-straight Jack, the bubbly Leo and the story of two adorable little boys. I loved Leo who made behaving well or learning fun by using subtle bribes that did not feel like bribes and the clueless Jack who was willing to learn and do the best for the adorable bundles of joy he was suddenly responsible for. Lots of emotions and feelings in this story that were sensitively handled. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Review: A Little Discovery by Kate Bauer 3 of 5 stars

A Little Discovery (Manor Drive Book 1)

A Little Discovery by Kate Bauer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Lucky does not live up to his name. He was tricked into marrying a woman who claims he got her pregnant. Then he receives divorce papers saying he was unfaithful. Even worse no one will listen to him. Homeless and destitute a kind-hearted bartender saves him from sleeping in his car, but can he handle sharing a house with eight other men? Spencer hates his job as a private investigator. All he wants is to be a professional photographer, but to do that he needs income. Being a PI pays the bills. His latest case funded a college exchange course in Australia, but leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Coming back home to the house at the end of Manor Drive, Spencer is in for a surprise because the subject of that case is the man now sleeping on their couch.

What a crazy and unbelievable story. I did love the other inhabitants of the house. I'm surprised that Lucky could look after himself for anything until he called for help from someone he should have called in the first place. So sweet in places but also a lot crazy. This was an MM story.

Review: Ted's Temerity by Anna Sparrows 3 of 5 stars

Ted's Temerity (Littles & Lace #3)

Ted's Temerity by Anna Sparrows
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Theodore (Ted) Masters is a Senior Partner at his law firm, has a circle of tight-knit friends, and lives a lifestyle most people can only dream of. Zephyr Cruze’s career as a professional dancer crashed and burned due to an untimely injury. Starting over in a new city, he meets a silver fox who happens to also be a Daddy at a new friend’s wedding who is ok with his preference towards feminisation and princess play. But will Ted’s secrets and tragic history prove to be too much for them to handle when it all comes spilling out? Or will Ted find the courage to finally let others in?

This was a nice story of a little finding his perfect Daddy (who in turn found his perfect boy). I loved that at the right time, Zeph was able to be the strong one and give Ted exactly what he needed. The extended family via friends were also integral to the story and I loved the way they could be unfiltered at times. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Review: Until You by Felicity Snow 5 of 5 stars

Until You

Until You by Felicity Snow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Paul had felt like he was drowning for five years after losing everything that mattered to him. Then he sees nineteen-year-old Charlie on the street trying to act tough and offers him his spare room to stay in. As time goes on, he cares for Charlie with an intensity that he shouldn't because he has no idea what he's done, the kind of person he is; and if he ever found out, he would hate him. Charlie has spent his life being told it is wrong to be gay and love another man and so he left home as being on the streets was preferable. Paul's rescue stuns Charlie as no one ever cared for him before and he wonders what the catch is. But as time passes, he realises there is no catch but how can a man 27 years older than him want him?

I loved this story with the older man who was just captivated by the younger Charlie and how they fell in love with each other. I liked that Charlie was determined to work for his keep and that Paul wanted him to finish his education. Lots of tender moments in this story and lots of big emotions as they navigate the source of Paul's pain and their relationship. I loved Paul's ex-wife. Easy to read and lots of big feelings to be understood. This was an MM story with mature content.

Review: The Weight Within by Gwen Martin 4 of 5 stars

The Weight Within (The Collective, #2)

The Weight Within by Gwen Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tristan Edwards is clean-cut, determined, and organized on the outside, but on the inside, he’s falling apart. After years of nonstop travel for work, he’s assigned to open a new branch that could keep him close to home with more job security. But when he learns this coveted position is also up for grabs by another eligible candidate and if Tristan can’t prove his executive position, his dream job may fall into the hands of his dream man. Kurt Holden is newly divorced, without a home, and in need of a change. When a new position springs up, Kurt jumps at the chance to start over in a new city as a new person. What he isn’t interested in is falling into another relationship, but the more time he spends with Tristan, it becomes impossible to ignore his attraction. As both men face the decision to choose professional gain or personal desire, Tristan and Kurt must learn to accept that carrying the weight within doesn’t have to be done alone. The only question is if they’re willing to take the risk or stay alone.

I enjoyed this story with the rivalry, the eventual realisation that the other person's ideas and methods were worthwhile and finally the undeniable sexual attraction between them both. I found the writing clear and easy to understand and on the whole easy to feel and empathise with. I did, however, find in some sections that the rivalry and differences between them were a little overdone. This was an MM story with mature content.
