Emma was one of the humans that crash-landed on Tajss and has since become an instant mother to her nephew Al after her sister and mate were tragically killed. She used to be a resident in the mining colony and so is also even more removed from the Zmaj as she was part of the group who were cast out of the city. But since the invaders struck the separate groups are all trapped in the cramped space of the underground bunker. So all of her hopes and dreams for the future are totally on hold as she struggles to care for Al. Her one escape is the Zmaj "Frankenstein" Klauth who is still in the medical tube. He is barely conscious but does seem to react whenever she is near to him. Then everything goes wrong when both Emma and Al are threatened and Klauth breaks free in order to save them both. Then as things go wrong in the bunker and Klauth is evading capture they both need to save each other - can Emma and Klauth find a way to be together and bring up Al together?
I enjoyed this story which was suitably dramatic with the life in the bunker together with the relationship developing between Klauth and Emma within and without the medical tube. There were a suitable number of tender moments as well as dramatic moments to make this a well-rounded book. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
