Review: Shifted Obsessions by C.E. Black 4 of 5 stars

Shifted Obsessions (Alpha Division, #3)Shifted Obsessions by C.E. Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bear is struggling - it appears that Liz (the woman he loves) has a deep secret she is keeping everyone at arm's length - friends, family and co-workers. The further she pushes Bear away the more he wants to help her! They are still working on the shifter drug case and the government is now allowing the ALpha Division to take a more leading role having found the error in leaving them out of the case until now but it really feels as if they are no closer. They keep finding themselves at horrific crime scenes were both shifters and humans are dying and then faced with uncooperative prisoners and missing bodies - it all feels like it is getting out of control. Faced with all of that, Bear is also starting to feel that he is not cut out for the job as he cannot be that ruthless. More surprises are in store for the Division as secrets and lies hit them from every direction and things that were never thought possible become the reality and that is all topped off by losing one of their own. Can they get through everything and work out what is going on?

Wow - this was definitely an action-packed story that contained a lot of developments in the story as well as some closure around a solution that enabled Bear to finally get the woman that he loves (Liz) finally. I loved the way that Bear and Liz were forced to face reality and sort out their silly reasons for not being together as well as the final ending to the story which was definitely the right way for everything to go. Well written, it was easy to read and understand this book. Contains some explicit sexual content as well as plenty of violence.

Review: Meet The Alpha Division Box Set: Shifted Temptations, Shifted Perceptions, A Shifted Wedding by C.E. Black 4 of 5 stars

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great starter box set of books 1, 2 and 2.5 in the series. All around an elite military unit called the Alpha Division of shifters who maintain order on the shifters in their country.

#1 Shifted Temptations - 4*
When Samantha (Sam) falls in love with the two hot men she has been having a no-strings menage relationship with, she decides a clean split is the right thing for her to do so she can have stability in her life considering the extra responsibility she is about to take on. Jaguar shifters Jordan and Alex grew up together in the same small town when being a half-blood was looked won upon (even by their own fathers). So they left and joined a secret military shifter operation called the Alpha Division where they can keep the peace of their own kind. They had agreed that a commitment was too much and so the arrangement with Sam was perfect even though the thought of losing her is something they cannot stand. When their past comes back to haunt them a possible traitor in their team threatens the woman who they love and a future they had never dreamt of. When the secret is revealed can they forget the past and forgive all of the lies or will fear still drive them apart?

I enjoyed this story which has a lot of drama and danger mixed in with moments of passion and happiness. I loved the way that Jordan and Alex were very similar in some ways and yet completely opposite in others. I get the feeling that Liz is going to become central to some stories later in the series. Well written and easy to read and understand. It was easy to feel some of the emotions at points in the story (even if you thought they were stupid or irrational). Contains explicit sexual content.

#2 Shifted Perceptions - 3*
Paul had betrayed the team in the past and although he was given a second chance to Terry (Foxy) if you were once a traitor you were always one. When they have to work together on a mission they butt heads so much it is almost dizzying as they struggle for dominance and over time she wonders if all his husky words and burning glances will just send her crazy with lust. So she resolves to keep her cool and renew her determined stance to never sleep with a traitor. Working undercover is not Foxy's speciality but as a team player, she does everything she can to infiltrate the group of smugglers and trying to find out who exactly is running the show behind the scenes. As they have a captured teammate her first priority is to find him and when she meets Stone a leader of the organisation things start to heat up as she uses the attraction to her advantage. But things are not going as planned as secrets pile up and time is short. Can she keep both her focus and her head between Paul and Stone straight?

I really enjoyed some elements of this story which had lots of danger and drama. I enjoyed the alpha way that Paul behaved towards Foxy and their dynamic (although at times it was rather irritating), but I did find the Stone thing a bit confusing at times (especially towards the end of the story). Well written and easy to read. Yet more of an indication that Liz is going to be important later on in the series. Contains explicit sexual content.

#2.5 A Shifted Wedding - 5*
This is the story of the wedding of Sam with Alex and Jordan and in particular the bachelor/bachelorette parties and what happens at those events.

I loved this little story - it was very charming and nice to see the characters away from all the hard guy stuff and being a bit more soft and sentimental. It was well written and clear and easy to understand the story and emotions involved by all of the parties involved.

Review: Psychic Whispers by Arial Burnz by A.J. Nuest 4 of 5 stars

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Set in the Californian Hills, Nikko Sanna is looking after a stray at his kennels when it gets out and finds a human bone. Wondering how he can ask a dog for the location and solution to a 20-year-old cold case, Nik meets Inara Woodward who is a member of one of the town's founding families but is also a veterinarian and a pet psychic. Hoping that her abilities can help clear his family over the cold case, Nik lets the Woodweird family member try to help him although he is finding that he cannot ignore how much he wants the leggy blonde into his bed too. Sadly, someone clearly does not want them to get to the bottom of the case and they will use all the dark secrets from his past in order to bring the couple down in any way that they can. Can they get to the bottom of everything or will they end up six feet under?

I loved this story which was a great mystery merged with a paranormal romance. It was fun to try and work out who was behind it as well as see the way that their relationship was developing. Well written and easy to read and understand. It definitely struck me as a series to stick to and continue reading. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Review: The Refuge by John A. Heldt 5 of 5 stars

The Refuge (Time Box, #4)The Refuge by John A. Heldt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The modern family of seven people who had stolen two time boxes, the Lanes, decide to take a stand against the unhinged software mogul who wants to get them back. So they travel to 1941 and head for Oahu to try to eliminate the mercenary employed by the billionaire who has worked as an assassin and is chasing them through time. The eldest son Jordan was an intelligence officer and is trying to stalk their foe through the streets of Honolulu while the rest of the family (including his pregnant wife) settle in the village of Laie where love, friendship and opportunity await. Hitman Silas Bain has his own agenda as he wants to alter the events of 7th December 1941 and indirectly save a brilliant German physicist who is his employer's grandfather from certain death. However, he encounters the one contingency that he did not prepare for - a beautiful heiress.

This was certainly a packed instalment in the series that was set in Hawaii just before the fateful events in Pearl Harbour. As always, it was carefully researched and written in order to fit in with history as it happened (and was remembered). Carefully crafted into this were stories of romance, love and plenty of intrigue and suspense as we lived life through the events surrounding characters in this book. I was thrilled to see that Randy finally made a commitment to Laura as they definitely belonged together. Well written and easy to read and understand. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter in the story and wondering is that the last one and good finally conquers or will there be more twists and turns than we have already experienced so far.

Review: Witch's Choice by Natalie-Nicole Bates 3 of 5 stars

Witch Neyla Bennett receives an invitation to take part in what she believes in a quiz show at the Crimson Moon Hideaway resort she feels that the all-expenses-paid vacation is too good to miss. However, upon arrival, she realises that Witch's Choice is not a quiz show but a dating show and one of the other contestants is her former love Tullie LaCroix who had left her without an explanation years ago. Tullie is as beautiful and sexy as she was before and it appears she is keen to resume their relationship, but when the truth of what she left is known will it bring them back together or tear them apart permanently?

This was an interesting take on lost lovers and dating show all mixed together. As always I love the resort and the way that the paranormal races can be themselves while they are there. I did find Neyla and Tullie a bit irritating at times but thankfully they got to the end of the story with me still there. Contains F/F sexual content. Easy to read.

Review: Dragon Shield by C.D. Gorri 4 of 5 stars

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Diamond Dragon Shifter Kingston Baldric is the leader of the Guardians of Chaos. Witch Holley Mount has been trapped with the walls of the Guardians’ Keep for almost three hundred years waiting for the day when she was awoken. Kingston has already paid the ultimate price for duty causing him to seal off his Dragon’s heart for good. But can Kingston resist the call of his fated mate?

I enjoyed this story which helped to understand the effect of a shifter taking someone other than their fated mate to be their mate. It was lovely to see that he was finally going to get something (and someone) for himself and that it has nothing to do with duty. I loved Holley who might be from centuries ago but was still a strong and feisty woman who was greatly helped by the presence of other strong females in the keep. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Think of England by Rebecca Fairfax 3 of 5 stars

Think of England (Paranormal Dating Agency; Roar Britannia, #1)Think of England by Rebecca Fairfax
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Dr Eleanor Maxwell has worked in shifter integration so when a new shifter/human initiative is launched she agrees to lead it however at that time she did not realise that it meant that Gerri Wilder would be travelling to the UK in order to match prominent shifters with their human mates. Before she can protest she is matched with two devastatingly handsome and powerful twin gryphon shifters who are Ludo and Jago Calter. The two brothers are not interested in serving their country as much as the fact that she is their mate and they are determined to claim her. They will start with a date but the is not for negotiation. However, Ellie is from a completely different world and will do everything she can to not let them have their way in everything.. Can they come to some kind of compromise and get the HEA they all deserve?

This was a pleasant shifter story where there was the necessary misunderstandings, danger, drama and determination that all came together in several explosive events. Gerri Wilder plays a minimal role in this story but I guess if nothing else it confirms that they are mates. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.
