Mal is a demon and along with his brother, they run the Perfect Shores Funeral Parlour where they bury bodies while also reaping the souls. Generally, he doesn't like humans and finds them tedious but tolerates them. Then Jason walks in with sad eyes grieving for his lost love and all Mal wants to do is hide him away and take care of him. Kristine Jason's best friend tells him it is time to move on from the death of his husband Kieran from cancer but he is at the funeral parlour as he has heard of a man who can bring him back from the dead and he will do anything to make that happen. When Jason sees Mal he can see he is not the man he was there to see but he is someone who brings a long-forgotten smile to his face and his stone-cold heart to beat faster.
This was a fun story with a demon finding his mate who is still heartbroken over his late husband. I liked the way that Mal tried everything to keep information and the pressure as simple and easy as possible for Jason to be sensitive. I also liked his focus on consent and his determination to make sure that Jason had decided to be with him even if that came with a cost to himself. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
