Review: Macon by Aja Foxx 3 of 5 stars

Macon

Macon by Aja Foxx
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Macon is shocked when Carter returns to the ranch pregnant, and he’s determined not to run again. Once terrified and feeling unworthy, he now wants to protect Carter from his controlling father and be part of their baby’s life. Carter, long overshadowed by his wealthy family, finally felt seen after one night with Macon — until he woke up alone. Back in Texas, he discovered he was pregnant and chose to keep the baby. When his family eventually confronted him, Carter realised his true home was with the people who accepted him: Macon, Rawley, and the ranch.

Carter’s cleverness really stood out in this story — the way he quietly set up his own financial safety net to escape his father’s control showed just how resourceful he had to be to protect himself and his future. His determination made him easy to root for. I did find it a bit strange how quickly the story shifted into talk of love between him and Macon. Their relationship moved fast, and at times I struggled to fully get behind them because the romance didn’t always feel developed on the page. Despite the book being titled Macon, so much of the emotional weight centred on Carter and his complicated family dynamics that it almost felt like the story belonged to him instead. Still, the journey was engaging, the emotions were clear, and the themes of independence and belonging were easy to feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and set in the omegaverse with MPREG.
