Review: Defending Keirnan by P.J. Fiala 4 of 5 stars

Defending Keirnan (GHOST, #1)

Defending Keirnan by P.J. Fiala
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Schoolteacher Kiernan Vickers is living her dream as that was all she ever wanted to be. Now she is focused on the local library which is in desperate repair to help her to host her growing reading program. But then an old enemy of her father is threatening to end her existence. Dane Copeland is a widower and now a single father of a little girl who is in the class taught by Kiernan. He had put everything on hold so he could finish his career as a special operative with the Army and is now permanently back and able to focus on his daughter and picking up the pieces of his wife. He meets Kiernan with the promise of a new life and things are looking great until everything crashes down after she is kidnapped and local law enforcement seems unable (or unwilling) to mount a rescue. Can he work with Kiernan's father Auggie Vickers and his own contacts to find her and mount his own rescue for her?

I really enjoyed this story which was a great thriller mixed into a mystery and a romance - perfect to start off this series and set the scene as to why GHOST was created. I loved the relationship between Kiernan and Dane and the way that his late wife Catherine was sensitively brought into the story. Easy to read and understand while being swept into the story and who had taken Kiernan. Easy to read and understand. Contains a little light mature content.
