Payton Crown is surfacing from a devastating divorce and is starting to hope for a future and new life with her brother's best friend Mason ‘Storm’ Starr. Storm walked away from the army and is hoping to hide on his best friend Coach's family's horse ranch in Kentucky while he sorts his life out. But Payton interrupts his solitude and the chemistry between them is totally off the charts. The Crown family receives threats weeks before the Kentucky Derby and the overprotective men in Payton's life vow to watch her and the family's prize horse (Prince Bourbonville) who is a hopeful for the triple crown 24/7. The circumstances threaten to keep both Payton and the horse away from the race, but Storm and Coach are determined to get them there no matter the sacrifice. Can they sort everything out?
I really enjoyed this story with the still-healing Payton after the divorce and the strong and dependable Storm who was dark and desirable while being gorgeous all at the same time. I enjoyed the sparks that there were between them even as they tried to resist temptation with fear that things would change. The plot, those who were involved and the way it was resolved were all very dramatic even though the ending was suitably sweet. I was thrilled when they both were together and firmly looking forward to a shared future. Easy to read and understand.
