Colliding Hearts

Colliding Hearts by Jax Calder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One voice kept Felix alive in the darkness. One Halloween night changed everything. One secret threatens to destroy it all. When Felix’s car plunges into a ravine, a stranger’s warm, steady “chocolate‑cake voice” becomes his lifeline in the pitch‑black terror. But after he’s rescued, the mysterious paramedic disappears without a trace, leaving Felix with nothing but scars, trauma, and the memory of the man who kept him breathing. A year later, after avoiding mirrors, dating apps, and anything resembling vulnerability, Felix ends up hooking up with the hottest Darth Vader he’s ever seen — while dressed as a surprisingly seductive Yoda. The next morning, he discovers two shocking truths: his one‑night stand is his new neighbour… and the long‑lost paramedic who saved his life. Felix and Jared try to keep things platonic, but it’s impossible to resist a man who bakes brownies, gives incredible massages, and makes Felix feel seen in ways he hasn’t since before the accident. Their friendship soon slips into a friends‑with‑benefits arrangement, and Felix finds himself falling hard for the man with the voice that once pulled him out of the dark. But every time they get close to something real, Jared pulls away. Felix can’t tell if it’s because of his scars — the ones that changed how the world sees him — or because Jared is hiding something far more dangerous than fear.

I loved this deeply emotional novella which was rich with emotional depth, identity shifts, and slow‑burn vulnerability. I loved that it highlighted that healing wasn't just physical; but also the emotional work of reclaiming who you were when everything familiar changed. I also loved how the story challenged the idea that beauty equals worth, and explored how love sees beyond the surface. I loved that the story said that love often grows in the small, tender gestures that say “I see you” when someone feels unseeable. Lots of big emotions and feelings in this story. This was an MM story with mature content.
