Review: Max and the Prince by R.J. Scott 4 of 5 stars

Max and the Prince

Max and the Prince by R.J. Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Assigned to protect Prince Lucien while he studies in the UK, bodyguard Max Connery goes undercover as a student—and even joins the swim team—to stay close. But when real danger strikes, the line between duty and desire blurs. As threats close in, Max must risk everything to keep Lucien safe… even if it means walking away from the man he’s falling for.

I loved this story that delivered a satisfying mix of danger and heart. Max, a seasoned bodyguard forced to pose as a university student, is the kind of quietly wounded hero you can’t help rooting for. Lucien (Luke), the prince he’s assigned to protect, brings warmth, intelligence, and a longing for normalcy that makes their connection feel both inevitable and fragile. The undercover setup is fun, but the story really shines once the threats on campus escalate. The suspense adds real weight to the romance, pushing both men to confront who they are beneath duty and expectation. Their relationship grows through small, intimate moments that feel earned, and the emotional stakes rise beautifully alongside the danger. If you enjoy bodyguard romances with genuine vulnerability, steady tension, and characters who learn to trust each other in the midst of chaos, this one is a rewarding read. This was an MM story with mature content.
