Review: The Beacon and the Brine by Katherine McIntyre 4 of 5 stars

The Beacon and the Brine

The Beacon and the Brine by Katherine McIntyre
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Elrich is pushed into an arranged marriage with Arielle Triton, a wealthy merfolk heiress he feels no real spark with. Instead, he finds himself drawn to Ursuline, the cecaelia family lawyer bound to the Tritons by contract. As his feelings grow, Elrich uncovers dark secrets behind the Triton family’s power — disappearances, whispers, and danger that make duty impossible to ignore. To save himself and Ursuline, he may have to break the very contracts that keep them trapped.

The connection between Elrich and Ursuline is the heart of this story — a bond so strong it rises above the contracts and obligations tying them both to the Triton family. Their relationship feels fated, tender, and quietly powerful, even as danger closes in around them. I loved the sense of drama throughout, especially as the darker truths behind the Tritons come to light. The stakes are high, the tension constant, and the worldbuilding rich with paranormal intrigue. The supporting cast of monster friends was a delight, and watching Elrich slowly become part of that community added warmth and hope to an otherwise perilous journey. A beautifully emotional paranormal romance with danger, loyalty, and a love that refuses to be contained. This was an MM story with mature content.
