Review: Shadow Prince by S. Rodman 4 of 5 stars

Shadow Prince

Shadow Prince by S. Rodman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Adam discovers that the childhood monster under his bed was real — a shadowy being named Hex who imprinted on him years ago and has now returned, exiled from the Shadow Realm and dependent on Adam to survive. Hex is smug, intrusive, and impossible to ignore, but he needs Adam’s help, and their old bond keeps pulling them together. Adam knows he should send him away, yet the creature who once hid under his bed is now firmly under his skin.

I loved the unusual, reluctant connection between Adam and Hex — a bond Adam fights every step of the way until he finally starts believing the truth Hex has been insisting on from the start. Their dynamic is equal parts chaotic, funny, and unexpectedly tender, and watching Adam slowly give in to what’s growing between them is one of the story’s biggest delights. The humour was funny, especially Hex’s compulsive need to reorganise Adam’s flat like a shadow‑realm housekeeper with opinions. The side characters added even more charm and energy, each bringing their own fun to the chaos swirling around Adam and Hex. Amid the jokes and banter, there’s real drama and moments of danger that keep the tension high. Altogether, it’s a lively, emotional, and thoroughly entertaining read. This was an MM story with mature content.
