Review: Rock My World by Zara Zenia 3 of 5 stars

Rock My World (Khargals of Duras, #7)Rock My World by Zara Zenia
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Alien gargoyles have perched and secretly observed humans but a human group called the Rose Syndicate are threatening to use garg technology to create superweapons at the gargs feels they need to act before humans are paying the price. Mogul is a garg and has suffered for years at the hands of fellow gargs and the loss of humans that he has let into his heart in the past. He has vowed to never let that happen again and so with the help of his two friends he is determined to take down the Rose Syndicate and get off the planet. The last thing he needs is an emotional entanglement, after all his injured wings stop him from injecting the mating serum into a prospective mate even if he really wanted to. Kira is determined to unravel the mystery of objects she found at an archaeological dig near her home. Science is her friend as well as the stone gargoyles on the roof who she always sought out for sanctuary as a child - especially thanks to being lonely due to her absent father. When Kera finds Mogul's sigil at the dig site, her father and the Rose Syndicate threaten her and Mogul has to swoop in and rescue her even though he finds her beauty now she is an adult very hard to resist, but he needs to just focus on getting home. Kira might be his mate but the ships from home ar only days away and he must ignore the pull to her - can he take down the Rose Syndicate without losing his heart in the process?

I enjoyed this story which had a struggle between advanced aliens and evil humans with the relationship between Kira and Mogul at the centre. I really enjoyed some parts of the story involving the dilemma for Kira as the Syndicate was intrinsic into who her father was and her love for him, as well as her blind faith in Mogul, but there were parts of the story that I found annoying - especially the negativity of Mogul and the selfishness he showed towards Kira which was the opposite of the love for her that he seemed to also feel (even if he could not admit it to himself). Some parts of the story were a little disjointed and not very logical although I was pleased with the way that the story ended. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Review: Savage Redemption by Liza Street 4 of 5 stars

Savage Redemption (Bad Alpha Dads; Fierce Mates: Corona Pride #6)Savage Redemption by Liza Street
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Unmarried mother Delilah is struggling to make ends meet while she tries to raise her daughter on her own. In desperation, she tries once again to contact the baby's father. Mountain lion shifter Ben has been the villain in the past and so knows he doesn't deserve anything good in his life let alone love. When Delilah contact him for help he knows he has to help as she needs help and protection from a dangerous rogue wolf. Ben wants nothing more than to claim her as his mate but first he has to risk everything in order to protect his new family. Can he turn things around and become the hero who gets the girl like he wants to?

This was a lovely story that definitely tugs at the heartstrings in places. I loved Ben's character and the way he was determined to be good, nice and protect his family even though he felt that he did not deserve anyone in his life. Delilah was a strong and very independent woman and it was great to see her get some happiness and someone to be her partner going forward. Well written and easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.

Review: Rhal by Erin Tate by Celia Kyle 4 of 5 stars

Rhal Rhal by Erin Tate by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cara Marte thinks that the Ujal are just normal folks that sometimes grow fins and scales. She knows that she wants Rhal fa Adar with his dark scales and dark eyes but he always keeps her at arms-length sharing pleasure with her but nothing more - it is obvious he wants her but he refuses to mate with her. When she discovers that his reasons were actually a lie, she takes her battered heart to the Intergalactic Mating Agency office to try and find her match but all she can think of is Rhal. Rhal fa Adar is not an ideal mate as he sacrificed his soul as the king's secret assassin and so he feels he cannot have Cara. However, when he discovers that she has gone to try and find a mate he realises that he just cannot lose her to another male and vows to be with her in some way whilst Cara is realising that she cannot have another and just hopes that he realises his mistake and comes around. The only problem with Rhal’s plan? An evil from his past appears on Earth and shatters the tenuous bond they share. Now he prepares for the hardest battle of his life—the one for Cara.

This was a lovely story that had lots of betrayal, lies, pride and strength as it becomes more apparent exactly how the Ujal society works and who has the power. I loved the way that both of them were suffering at different points in the story and how that then meant that the other would move heaven and earth in order to stop that hurt. Deep down this is an intense love story that has some major pushes and pulls but in the end, it all goes in the right direction. There were definitely some fairly emotional moments but it was still very enjoyable. Well written and easy to read. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Sizzling Dragons Box Set by Alisa Woods 3 of 5 stars

Sizzling Dragons Box Set Sizzling Dragons Box Set by Alisa Woods
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Great value boxset containing the first three books in the series.

#1 - Kiss of a Dragon - 3*

Lucian is the Dragon Prince of the House of Smoke who is trying to live with the implications of a ten-thousand-year-old treaty that says that if he does not spawn a dragonling before the end of his 500th year, he (and the treaty) will die. Although he is a triplet, he is the eldest by a hair's breadth but he cannot face the horror after the failure the last time he tried. Lawyer Arabella was saved from death in a dark Seattle alley by an incredibly beautiful man who arrived on golden wings. Having been taken to his lair her eyes are not open to the existence of immortals. He says he will only set her free if she finds him a mate, but in fact, they both need each other and they can only succeed if they find a love between them that is True.

This was a lovely story even though some of it was filled with Lucian feeling huge amounts of self-pity and avoiding the truth that was right in front of himself. I loved the way that they helped each other through various problems and the way they actually listened to each other. This story had a lot of promise and almost lived up to it but in the end, failed to quite make it. Enjoyable but I felt very frustrated through much of the story. Contains explicit sexual content.

Heart of a Dragon - 3*

Lucian is the Dragon Prince of the House of Smoke and needs to spawn a dragonling to uphold an age-old treaty and extend his own life. However, he is still in the dilemma of loving Arabella and yet not being able to be the cause of her death. Can he find another woman to love him and have his child or is he doomed to die and break the treaty?

This was an extension of the first book in the series and sees it continue the story of Lucian and Arabella. I loved the way that the whole family became involved and how they all managed to get him to see sense. However, I was irritated that this story is being continued into yet another book. Yes, I want to know how it finishes but I am not prepared to buy the third book to find out how it all ends - not when many other authors/series cover this in just the one book. So yes it was well written, but I was irritated with the self-pity and the attitude that Lucian had. In the end, I almost felt like shouting in frustration. Contains explicit sexual content.

#3 - Fire of a Dragon - 4*

Lucien is the Dragon Prince of the House of Smoke and needs to spawn a dragonling to uphold a treaty to keep the mortal world safe from the Dark Fae. He is mated to human Arabella and she is now expecting a dragonling. As they wait for the impending birth (which is much faster than a human) there is a succession of gifts for the expected child. However, nothing is simple in their part of the world - can Arabella give birth safely to this much-loved child?

This was a fairly simplistic story in that it featured a lot of explicit sexual content between Lucien and Arabella, some information on the pregnancy and birth, some complications and a surprise at the end. Well written and easy to read, this was the final part of the story of Lucien and Arabella.

Review: The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexi Blake 3 of 5 stars

The Dom Who Loved Me (Masters and Mercenaries, #1)The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexi Blake
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ex green-beret Sean Taggart is undercover in a company looking for a deadly terrorist who is the brother of the boss of the company. His only lead is the lovely executive-assistant Grace Hawthorne and so he decides to get close to her to try and get to the truth. He is eager to get close to her anyway as he has discovered that she is deliciously submissive. Soon she is leading a double life - by day she is the efficient widowed mother of two sons at college, but by night she is living out her wildest fantasies as Sean's sub. As passion engulfs her, a murderer strikes, and Grace learns that Sean has a deeply hidden agenda. Will Sean choose his mission and break her heart or be the Master of her dreams?

This was definitely a dramatic story with lots of danger, intrigue and surprises. There was a lot of explicit sexual content but the BDSM was fairly light in nature (which was probably a good thing for anyone who was not used to it) and probably reflected that she was not experienced and they were not just in that kind of relationship. It was a pleasant read with a HEA at the end too.
