Review: Angel on Fire by J.C. Andrijeski 5 of 5 stars

Angel on Fire (Angels in L.A. #4)Angel on Fire by J.C. Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Angel Dags has stolen his friend's wife Jade away to protect her from him as he believes Uri is Lucifer and that he is trying to awaken her to join him. But he is no longer alone as school friend Kara is an LAPD homicide detective, there is a house full of people and his girlfriend Phoenix X who is a movie star and awakening angel who cannot control her powers properly yet - all who need to be protected from demons.

This was certainly an action-packed instalment of the series as Dags had crisis after crisis to handle as well as the constant drip feel of information and sometimes misinformation and trying to work out what was real, what was true, what was a lie, and more importantly what was significant. Throughout it all, he discovered more and more about what and who he was as well as what and who Uri his schoolfriend was too. Well written and full of action and revelations, this was very addictive and I just could not put it down. It was easy to read and understand but you do need to keep up with the pace of the revelations and discoveries. There is one hell of a revelation at the end of this book which just fused my mind for a while so prepare to sit a think about this for a while when you finish it. I really can't wait to find out what happens next - this author really is very clever at her art.

Review: Mastering The Mistress by Evangeline Anderson 3 of 5 stars

Mastering The Mistress (Kindred Tales, #1)Mastering The Mistress by Evangeline Anderson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Havoc Solar M'Tex has followed the pattern of all other males in his rave and sworn to never bond himself to a female. So when he is captured and sold to a woman at the Flesh Bazaar as a body slave he knows he is definitely in trouble. Especially when he is bought by Kaylee who is new to planet Yonnie Six and has no idea that she needed a body slave until a new friend Lyla told her she needed one let alone what to do with him. When they are in her dungeon with all the equipment a Mistress could need to tame a new slave, Kaylee does her best but when Solar gets free of his restraints, the tables are turned. Will she escape from the male she dared to try and master... or will Solar end up Mastering the Mistress?

This is a sweet novella that contained a story about a girl who was new to an environment, trusted someone and the events that happened after that. I liked the way that Solar fought hard to resist her but failed in the end. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Review: Murder in the Marigolds by Dale Mayer 5 of 5 stars

Murder in the Marigolds (Lovely Lethal Gardens #13)Murder in the Marigolds by Dale Mayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Doreen finds herself a suspect in the murder of her ex-lawyer and it's definitely not the fun she thought it would be. Mack has ordered to stay away from the case but she is just not capable of not being interested and so she enlists Mack's brother and her new lawyer Nick to help her. The first priority for Corporal Mack Moreau is to clear Doreen as a suspect as no one in their right mind would believe that she'd done the deed. But he has to take into consideration that she has both the motive and the opportunity so it is not going to be a walk in the park made much worse considering she will not leave it alone and wait to be cleared! Then when she thinks it just cannot get any worse she answers the door of her house and the nightmare gets worse - her soon to be ex-husband Matthew is there. Will there never be an end to this nightmare?

I really enjoyed this instalment of the series where everything was far more personal to Doreen and both her old and new life. There were a lot of unanswered questions that were answered or were asked and put off until a later time. It definitely reinforced to me that her soon to be ex-husband Matthew was a piece of work and I'm sure we'll see much more of his evil and ire in later books in the series. Well written and easy to read. feel and understand.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review: Hell Hounds Don't Heel by Kim McDougall 4 of 5 stars

Hell Hounds Don't Heel (Valkyrie Bestiary, #3)Hell Hounds Don't Heel by Kim McDougall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Someone is plotting to have all of the gargoyles either put in jail or dead and six feet under. They might have patrolled the Montreal Ward for decades (learning the name Guardians) but when one of them is accused of murder their reputation is immediately blackened from heroes to criminals. Gargoyle Mason promised to return from his trip to France with the only weapon capable of killing formidable witch Polina but no one has heard from him in months and she is gathering forces. This isolated Kyra as it means that she has no backup as she tries to solve a murder and take on some new and terrifying monsters while at the same time looking after her growing menagerie of supernatural creatures. Can they defeat Polina before it is too late while avoiding everything that she is throwing at them?

This was a very dramatic story as the twists and turns came one after the other mixed in with complications that were almost dizzying as Kyra did everything that she could to stay alive as well as save everyone that she considered as her family. It was also a delight to see that the relationship between Kyra and Mason developed nicely and it was great to see how much they were able to respect each other and handle their differences (even though I know Mason wasn't keen on her being in danger and alone while it was daylight). Well written and easy to read and understand. If only there were more stories in this series as I have loved the way it has developed.

Zoe's sister had been a blood courtesan but had be given drugs and drained dry before being left for dead. So having met Asher he promised to help me bring the vampires responsible to justice - I just have to become his own courtesan.

Wow - I loved this story. There was so much danger, drama and unexpected things happening I was completely hooked and found myself reading it faster and faster needing to know what happened next. Well written and a joy to read.

** Included in the Blood Courtesans Boxed Set: Awakenings.

Review: Sins of the Shadow Walkers by C.L. Bright by Cassandra Lawson 4 of 5 stars

Sins of the Shadow Walkers Sins of the Shadow Walkers by C.L. Bright by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Juliet is very sceptical of her new Shadow Walker allies especially when it comes to the stories she has been told about her own origins. Filled with doubt and confusion she clings to the only thing she is sure of - she needs to return to the Heathergate Refuge to help Dante and her people who are all inside the protective wards. She knows that seeking help from any spellcasters is risky when she is being hunted by the Verdugo family but she has no choice. Will her new allies help her to reunite with Dante or will they betray her and destroy both her and everyone who she loves?

This was definitely a dramatic end to the trilogy and definitely contained some surprises as well as twists and turns. I loved the way that Juliet has to often think on her feet but thankfully judged risk well enough that it generally worked out. It was clearly written and easy to read and understand. A great ending to the story that I really enjoyed.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Angel (Angelica) is hoping that she gets a great price for her blood as she tries to raise money to make up for a past mistake. Enter Vampire Jameson who is smitten with her. A fairly short and sweet story that put mates together. An enjoyable quick read.
